WT Personal best for distance
catclaw replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It's not that shooting 750 yards is unethical it's that he personally had no business shooting that far based on his first two shots were hail-mary misses. If i had done that i wouldn't not have bragged about it for sure. Glad he got it without wounding it and glad he found it. Long range hunting is not a solo endeavor. Too easy to never find the animal -
I buy my tires from a guy name Alan by Deer Valley Airport. OEM tires mounted on factory wheels. Usually under $800. I have several sets of matching aluminum wheels for each truck

Not much dumber than a full auto pistol...

Totally depends on the mounts. I have a Rem Mountain rifle that I remove the walnut stock from and put it in an aluminum breakdown shotgun case inside my duffle. Because of the way it's bedded it's always zeroed when I put the stock back on. I often take a back up scope on hunts that's pre-zeroed. Works for me

I don't know why my photos turned sideways either

I took my oldest grandson there a few years ago. He shot a Hawaiian ram. My son got excited and he shot a ram too. It was perfect for that The other group there was staying in the house and shot hogs- giant hogs. They had racks for skinning etc.i would take a kid there again.

What’s a good lightweight boot for hunting the Lords deer?
catclaw replied to DonkeyMan's topic in The Campfire
Pretty hard for a guide to recommend boots. Everyone has a different foot, different style etc. I've sure tried a lot of boots and the lightweight ones are seldom the best choice for coues hunting. -
The VX6 will track just fine, they're very good scopes. The NX 8 has a crappy eyebox. Resolution is not great either. It is not an ATAC-R.

No aircraft?

Pretty much every unit will be closed Wednesday, several for the year. Many bears in the desert looking for food. It was a blood- bath

The incidents of poor shooting CA rifles is well known and not unfounded

I have a 4X on my mod 88 but it is 50 years old!

Unless you're shooting a real heavy kicker, there's not much up-side to fixed power. The better quality variable zoom scopes are pretty awesome. I like the zoom if for nothing else to use at the range when working up loads and sighting in. Even my brown bear rifle has a 1-4x scope. Not much effort goes into new fixed power scopes. All the technology goes into zooms
