Getting my hands on a .257wby--- very excited. My dad is a quarter bore fan (his .250-3000 got him started reloading). I had a 25/06 some time ago that was traded off and I kind of always regretted it. That being said-- What loads are you guys using for yours?? I have a stockpile of 110gr Accubonds and powders on hand include H1000, Retumbo, RL19, H4831sc and I have RL22/25 both readily accessible. Thoughts on brass as well??

I bought a set of the Black Ovis as well this year. Went with elk size because I know I can fit deer into them as well. Used the cotton style 'Alaska' game bags from cabelas last year on my buddies muley. They stretched out around the bone-in quarters nicely but I don't know how durable they would be for re-use or for hanging stuff in a tree. They also take up lots of room!

If you go with a 'flat' color then patriot brown gets the nod for sure!! I think the greens are just too hard to predict how they will look/match. My Noveske AR is Patriot Brown, my fav of all the earth/brown/etc colors.

I had the barrel and action on my slug gun done in "Disrupted Bronze"-- It was a mix of base colors- Burnt Bronze and Midnight--- seen it done with Burnt Bronze and Graphite as well. Looks almost black but then you catch the bronze metallic hue.

Snagged a Sig Whiskey 3 3-9x with illuminated reticle for under $200... eyeing a new Tikka T3 Lite in .270 to make it an even $700 total. Gotta get him to 'pull' the trigger.

CWT-- Always appreciate the advice and ideas from here. I'll have some pics soon of the final product from my 'back up rifle' thread. My brother in law has been itching to get into hunting and I think this season will likely be his first. Texas is and will be the primary location for his hunting and whitetail deer / hogs will be the primary game. Just based off terrain and experience I don't expect shots to be 'long range' so anything that has ample energy at 300m with be adequate. He will need to be able to buy ammo off the shelf (or shoot something I shoot). Budget: $700 for rifle, rings, scope. This leaves me torn on where to focus the majority of the buying power. Your thoughts?

Something used definitely will be in consideration depending on what is available. Found him a Zeiss Terra 4-12x50 for a smoking deal that will leave about $450ish for a rifle. I did find a new T3 lite in .308 for $499 so I'm gonna see if he can stretch it out.

Thoughts on platform? I went and played with a Ruger American Predator in 6.5cm today. Not crazy about the stock but I've read good reviews on them. Savage also came to mind... Maybe a 111 combo-- I think they come with a Nikon scope?
