    Remington Model 700 Long Range

If Cabela's/Remington cant get their crap together on this Sendero I might buy a LR in 300rum for that same reason. Poor man's Sendero right? I'm sure theres a thread on here about them.

    Remington Model 700 Long Range

Cabelas and Remington both have emails on the way. The phone number to the Remington rebate center goes to people who only know how to cross reference UPCs and don't even know the names of the various models. It was the Cabelas warehouse guys at the store that tossed the boxes. Said they threw 15-20 away because 'space'. Hope it isn't some sham way to de-fraud out of a rebate. I'm a little frustrated.

    Remington Model 700 Long Range

They don't know what they are talking about. Google search the model for the upc and bump it against the website above. It covers all Long Ranges and Sendero II. I spent 3 hrs in the store looking them up yesterday.

    Remington Model 700 Long Range

If you are near a Cabelas some of them are running a 10% off sale on "pre-owned" guns. This includes alot of the overstock Rem700 LRs that are out on the racks in front of the gun library. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A BOX/OWNERS MANUAL w/ UPC. If they do you can get 10% off PLUS the $150 rebate. You are required to send in an original UPC off the box or manual to qualify. https://remington.rebateaccess.com/promotion.php?p=74837 --- CHECK YOUR UPC HERE FOR REBATE I could have killed the Cabelas gun library guy yesterday. Brand new Sendero .264wm on sale 10% off plus the $150 rebate... until he tells me they threw the box away along with 15-20 other Remington boxes because they didn't have room...... so no rebate. Which meant no sale to me.

    Awesome!! Nice looking bear
  15. I've been considering the purchase of a back up rifle to take with me on trips and also double as a solid, general purpose rifle for hunting here in Texas. I'm looking for a bolt action rifle on the lighter side that will not need a bunch of extra, aftermarket components, but will be durable (synthetic stock, maybe cerakoted), reliable (not a fan of detachable magazines), reasonably priced (thinking scope and rifle in the $1000ish range). For cartridge I'm looking for something that will be moderate in recoil (without a brake), handle up to elk sized game out to 300 yards, easy to find quality factory ammo (hence the back up part) and also easy to find reloading components. My current tools in the tool box of rifles are a 6.5x284, a 7 RUM and a .338wm (2x Rem 700s, 1x Win M70) Here are my thoughts: Rifle (I want a 24" barrel to be able to squeak out some extra velocity, see cartridges below) 1. Weatherby Vanguard Wilderness 2. Rem 700 SPS stainless (hate hate hate the stock) 3. Kimber Hunter (I know i said no detachable mags) 4. Browning Xbolt (mag issue... and its either a 22 or 26" barrel) Scope (dang hard to keep in budget) 1. Leupold VX1 4-12x (best option to stay in budget?) 2. Leupold VX6 2-12x w/CDS (price on these is coming down) 3. Swaro Z3 3.5-10x w/ BT 4. Vortex Razor HD LH 2-10 or 3-15x Cartridge- 1. 270win-- I like the ability to push these fast....and also be able to bump up to 150 partitions 2. 30-06-- I like the ability to go from 150 to 220... What are your thoughts??

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

DECISION IS MADE. Thanks for everyone's input and the offers as well. I made my mind up that I was going to find a 270 or 270wsm that I liked the best and go with it. I saw alot of 270wsm available in stores as well as reloading components so I felt good about ability to get ammo as needed. And honestly-- if you are looking at box stores and even smaller gun shops--- the price between quality 270 ammo and 270wsm really isn't all that different (maybe 3-4 bucks a box for Accubond/Partitions/etc). The big difference is being able to find Core-lokts, Win Power Points, etc for $20/box for the 270. I will end up handloading for this rifle in the future anyways I'm sure, once I get caught up on my other rifles first. I went to a few stores today and fondled a few more variations of rifles. Weatherby Vanguard, Browning Xbolt Long Range, Tikka T3x, Savage 116, 3 different Remington 700s (Mountain SS, SPS and CDL SF). I found that I loved the feel (and the looks) of the CDL SF the best, hands down. It is a standard 270, 24" stainless, fluted with a nice looking wood stock. I'm not crazy about having wood but the balance and looks more than make up for it. Plus I got a heckuva deal as it was unfired on the used rack. I already have a 700 pillar install kit and a jar of DEVCON at home. I will play with the trigger and see how I like it and go from there. I have a fair amount of wiggle room for the scope so that will be the next decision.

From my experience violence is the only thing they understand. Sadly, there will continue to be Manchesters and the enemy will continue to find new ways to cut us deeper until we as a nation and across the globe decide that enough is enough. "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse." - John Stuart Mill (ironically a British Philosopher)

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

I've been doing a little looking and found a T3 Stainless/Syn for $619 but its 270wsm so its 24" and I've not handled a Tikka with a 24", theres a Rem CDL Stainless Fluted 270 (24") for $730.... then two 30-06 decided to make life really difficult.... a Weatherby Backcountry $819 and a used Kimber Montana for $775 both with 24" tubes. It isn't leaving much room for a scope so I might have to wait to top one off. Funny how the more you look the more you find things you like. One more question on the Tikka magazines-- are there issues with magazine length vs COAL if you are loading longer projectiles or chasing the lands? I saw a whole set of posts on DIY magazine stuff.

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

Of the rifles I've handled T3 Lite, Xbolt, Rem 700, Weatherby Wilderness, Kimber Hunter-- I preferred the balance and feel on the 24" barrels. As for the magazine- I've always had floorplate style rifles and I don't like the idea of something happening and a magazine dropping out during a hunt or losing it and I don't like the idea of having to pay 30-40 dollars for a spare or a replacement.

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

There's a lot of love for the Tikkas. I will go back and check them out the two big strikes are barrel length and magazine. What scope would you recommend within the price point or a little over?

Are those monoliths? Not much in the description. And why 1-7"? Length?
