Been looking at Tikka rifles again, especially now that better aftermarket stocks are becoming more common. The biggest draw back seems to be magazine length. I've heard 3.2 or 3.3" for long action cartridges. However- now Grayboe and Mountain Tactical are both offering bottom metal that allows for use of AI mags and I've hard a few more companies are as well. Anyone have details or experience with DBM Tikka's? What about preference of magazines? Would polymer mags be better for hunting if they don't have that same rattle or noise as a metal one would?

Tikka Mag Length //DBM?
duckhunter175 replied to duckhunter175's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You're crazy! But hey, you asked for it! Here in Texas we get quite a few deer tags, not to mention the hogs... makes having extra ammo handy. More importantly, it never hurts to have another round available, the animal (and conditions) often get a vote and I want to have a back up. I won't be carrying a single shot either when I go to AK. And for the same reason I don't carry a revolver or BP pistol on duty But back to the issue at hand-- I've found DBM that allows loading to 3.5" but seems the long heavies in 300wm will push beyond that. Just looking to hear from others who have done it. I dug up an old load development thread from Lance on a 300wm Tikka I think but I wasn't sure if he was single loading or what. -

Id say that'll do it! -
Those Tikka T1X look sweet! And impossible to find for .17HMR. LGS here is doing a sale where they pay the sales tax so I'm leaning towards the synthetic Ruger American Rimfire- not the precision but they have a pre-threaded, heavy barrel .17HMR for a shade over $300!
-
The Anschutz and Cooper are out of the budget- Looking for $400ish rifle, threaded and ready to spend all night in a side by side bouncing around the ranch! Ruger American and CZ are looking good. Will CZ thread if you order direct?

The boys from Crooked Wing absolutely smash birds out around Lubbock!! A few buddies of mine from Midland have hunted with them. They are probably some of the best specialists at the Sandhill Crane game too! If you come further east then I think North Texas Outfitters does well too!
-
Do any of the CZ models come pre-threaded?
-
Even getting the barrel broken in and a load developed after that I would probably expend 10-15 rounds through that rifle on an annual basis. Doubt I would come close to burning it up. I do my off season practice with a .223 and .308!
-
Who is running one and in what rifle?? Are you running wby factory ammo or handloading?
-
Do you anticipate any issues with magazine length and seating depth for the 160s? How any 1-8 and stability with the 160s?
-
Holding constant for weight of the rifle? Did you feel the stock design had anything to do with it? And was either cartridge easier overall to develop a load for?
