Coues or Mule for the Rut??

For me it's a question of time. If I only have a day to hunt, I'll stay low and glass for mulies. If I have a couple days to work with, I'll climb in further and sit for coues deer. Tomorrow morning I'm heading out to glass for a few hours, see if I can't find something horny.

    Cabela's External Frame Backpack

I have the same pack too. You can carry enough stuff to go for a month if you want to, and as mentioned, its great for hauling animals. Except I'm too dang old to carry a whole deer anywhere, so I always cut mine in half and make two trips. Also great for hauling treestands, and infinitely more comfy than the useless straps that some treestands come with.

    PSE Carbon Air 34 ECS

Thats sad to hear. Ive only dealt with their customer service a couple times, and it was good, but that was many many years ago. I havent shot a pse in almost 10 years now. Bowtech has really great service, but the best customer service is the service you'll never need so the fact that I know how great their service is leads me to stay away from them. Currently, I'm giving mathews a try.

    backpacking tent and bag recommendations

Check out REI, they have a couple stores in the phoenix area. I've got a bunch of REI bags, tents & packs that I've been using forever. Their gear is considerable cheaper than a lot of the 'big name' stuff and holds up very well. Plus REI is a co-op, so if you become a member, you get a dividend and an annual 20% discount on one item, or something like that. I don't remember the exact terms, but I remember I went in there about 6 or 7 years ago to buy a long trip pack and picked up the REI Mars pack. Went to the register and the gal asked me if I wanted to use my dividend and discount for the pack? Heck yah I do! That $220ish pack went home with me for a little over a hundred bucks and I'm still using it. I also picked up a 0° down bag from them at least 7 years ago for about $350 or so, that weighs in at 2 lbs. & compresses to the size of just a little bigger than a football.

Looking for a bee stinger stabilizer

Cabelas has a similar style one they sell under their own brand. Id hardly call it a great price, but theyre quite a bit cheaper than the beestinger brand. If you want a used one I'd check out ebay or the classifieds on archerytalk, they have a seller rating/feedback deal kinda like ebay. Ive seen some great deals on used archery stuff over there.

    Cold weather gloves?

I use pretty lightweight Gloves with one of those hand muff deals that clips around your waist. I got the sitka gear one and its so dang warm it'll have your hands sweating when its 20 degrees out.

    Spandex Mafia

I can honestly say I've never done it and think its a real dik move. Anybody that checks me out with their scope needs to have their butt checked out with my boot.
  21. no doubt. Have to do something special with a deer that unique. Congrats to the hunter.

    Stalked up on him snoozing..

You might be right, but you also might be dead right! I have a 15 y.o. with a learners permit. I would give bicyclists the same advice I give her about semis: the laws of physics always trump the laws of traffic. It doesnt matter who has the right of way, give them some extra room.
  24. That's a tough spot to be in, I can understand the frustration. Without knowing either of you two, from what I've read from you it seems like he must enjoy the experience even with his current success rate, or else he probably wouldn't keep going with you. Probably he cares a lot more about the time he gets to spend with his son than he does about killing a deer, although a lot of guys have trouble putting that stuff into words. Maybe rather than try to change him, just plan that there's two types of hunting. 'Dad hunting' with 'our spots' then keep a handful of 'my spots' in your back pocket for when you have the opportunity to hunt alone.
  25. Sounds like one thats really set in his ways. Good luck. Probably the best way to crack that nut is too just sit your but down and start glassing, then when you spot something set up the 'extra pair' of binos you always bring and let him have a look. I took a buddy of mine bowhunting for the first time several years ago down in 33. Hed rifle hunted elk with his old man before, but had never been exposed to the glassing game. Within about 15 minutes I had glassed up a herd of over 20 deer including 3 or 4 bucks chasing each other and does around, so I left the binos set on them and had him sit down behind the tripod. Hed glassed right over them to quickly and hadnt seen a thing. He was pretty blown away that there was that many deer less than 400 yards away and he couldn't see them. Seeing is believing, youll probably have to prove the worth of the system beyond any argument he can form.
