Awesome buck! Congrats.

I dont think you even have to go to that extreme. Make it 600 yards across a canyon with rising thermals and drainages pointing in different directions causing the wind to swirl unpredictably and 90% of your keyboard commandos wouldnt get on the plate if you gave them 3 tries. I know I wouldnt.

Standing here today staring down the barrel of a 116% increase in obamacare health insurance premiums next year with reduce coverage and increased deductibles, the only hope for small businesses is an immediate reprieve of this horrible bill. This will not happen under a democrat. This plus the nasty increas in capital gains taxes over the last couple years, I just cant see how anyone can hope to makes it if things dont change drastically. Wife and I are looking into canada.

When I was up in Colorado last week I had a coyote dancing around chasing field mice at about 40 yards. I watched her and knew I wouldn't take a shot because it was too early in the evening and I didnt want to risk spooking an unseen elk. Later on dhe showed up again rigjt around dusk skirting the edge of the meadow right up towards me. This time I was going to hammer her. The minute I decided to take the shot my heart started pumping adrenaline and I couldnt calm myself down. Got the shakes so dang bad! I put the bow back on the hook and just watched her. She came right up to me about 8-10 feet, looked me right in the eyes and hauled butt outta there. Ive shot a couple p&y deer and never had anything set my nerves off like that. I couldn't have hit a broadside bus at 20yards in that moment. i dont know how you train for that.

What do you think about having a 3 point minimum for Mule Deer?

Being a state that only allows the harvest of antlered deer, there is definetely a much lower number of bucks than does. However, as flatlander pointed out, many hunters get hung up in 'the nursery' because thats where all the deer sign is. A lot of folks think theres no bucks because they didn't see them, but really theres plenty. They're just really goodal at being invisible. I cant tell you much about the rifle seasons, but I have no trouble at all finding bucks in the archery season. A few years ago I would have sworn there wasnt a single buck in my area, but really the problem was with my eyes looking in the wrong spots and not looking long enough in the right spots. -
^^^^this!^^^^ Dont see many like that. Great shooting and congrats!

This is a 70#/27" bow that had the modules changed so that it is currently at 67#/29 in draw. I later swapped out the 85% modules for 75% let-off, as 85% are illegal in some states. I just bought it a couple months ago when my old bow busted a limb, it's probably only been shot 100 or so times. I'm very impressed with how smooth and quiet it is, but I've since got my old bow repaired and as much as I like the mathews... It's just not MY bow. And I already have an extra and don't need 3 bows. Anyhow, I've got $785 into it, looking to get $650 cash. I'll post up pictures when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the bump. It is a very sweet shooter and I'm pretty impressed with it.

There was a great photo essay floating around the web a couple years ago where the guy followed/monitored a whitetail deer for its entire life from being a fawn until it died of old age. As I recall it was done on high fence private land, so the buck had ideal living conditions and no hunting pressure. It was amazing how that buck peaked out as a massive brute then once he started the slide his antlers just kept getting poorer & poorer. The author had every set of sheds from that buck to document the changes, not to mention a ton of pics. Its pretty interesting what those little guys can grow into given the chance. -
Avondale nearest cross streets are Avondale blvd and buckeye.

a yearling 4x5? i didnt know that was even possible. learn something new everyday. Ive never heard of that either, but I guess anything's possible. I was always under the impression that if a yearling sported forks he as off to a real strong start. Unless of course we're talking GMO texas game ranch deer, then a yearling could go 200". -

One of the great things about hunting is that it can be tailored to almost anyone's tastes, whether a 'brown it's down' kinda guy, or '180" or nothing!' muley nut. I envy the kind of people that put in the time and effort it takes to be so selective. I know I could do it to if I had some more free time in my life, but I'm not there yet, so I'm glad that spikes & forkies are on the menu for those last day crunches. I always find it amazing how many people I talk to that go year after year without tagging anything, but they're always looking for a '3 point or better'. My opinion has always been just get one and enjoy it, then later on you can hold out if you chose to. There's nothing like that first one though, whether big or small. That's a memory I wouldn't miss over an antler point. And btw Hoghntr, I hope you don't take it as criticism, but you really need to lay off that vegan talk. Every wonder why 'vegan' and 'vagina' sound so much alike? In many languages they actually mean the exact same thing. Juuuuust sayin.... -
Friday bump. Give the CW family first dibs, then throw it up on ebay on Monday if nobody here is interested.

Just up from cortez in the dolores area. Beautiful country, but weird hunting situation. All private land along the creeks and rivers with guides pushing them up the hills, and loaded with diy hunters on the mountain tops pushing them down the hills. We were told you had to walk in deep away from the roads to find them on the hillsides. A lot of horse trailers for packing animals out. It was definetely an educational experience. Last morning I was there I found a nice deep basin full of dead falls and loaded with fresh sign about 200-300ft below the ridge line. I wish I would've found it the first day, but even if I had shot one I there it was so steep and nasty it probably would have been a 2day deal to hike one out of there without horses. I think next year I'll make sure I have some horses on stand by.

Wow hes a tall one! Good luck.

Awesome muley. Congrats!

I was up there hunting 2nd rifle season with a friend last week. It was pretty rough, crazy warm, and the orange army was everywhere. Ive never seen so many other hunters in the field at one time. Saw some elk and some muleys, but never laid eyes on a legal bull in 4 days.
