  1. I set my wife up with the diamond infinite edge. Really good for her because she has a rather long draw length but doesn't shoot heavy poundage. Its a solid package and I cant believe the adjustment range.

Any Advice for a New Guy

Water can be super productive during dry spells, but that can change in a hurry after a rain. I usually hole up in saddles or basins that have good trails, somewhere on top of a nasty steep ridge line. Areas close to bedding cover where they can feed, lay down & meander around doing rutty stuff.

Any Advice for a New Guy

If youre going to sit ambushes, sit all day for several days in the same spot. Ive seen nothing but squirrels and birds for two days in a row and then on the third day had so many deer around that I was afraid even to stretch or blink for that matter. Most people that ambush hunt give up too soon and sing the 'i just dont have the patience to hunt that way' song so then they start wandering around aimlessly and go home with tag soup. If you're going to spot and stalk, make sure you dont get lost. Ive been guilty of sneaking up on the wrong juniper or cactus more than once. Now I use my compass and rangefinder to set a way point and measure myself in. Helps a lot. Also, so.e may argue, bug I dont like the boot covers, I ditch my boots at about 100-200 yards out and put on a second set of wool socks. That way you can feel the ground and it forces you to slow down. I cant feel anything with boot covers and still end up moving too fasr and making too much noise. Most importantly though, leave the tape measure in you tool box and just shoot a deer. Have fun and good luck!

Arizona Unit 27 January Mule Deer

I'm thinking this is a joke? I think 27 is hands down the "biggest", wildest unit. Gotta be fewer roads than any other and a LOT of wilderness area. I spend 30+ days a year exploring 27 and have been for a lot of years and there is still a lot of country i haven't touched ^^^^^ This!^^^^^^ 27 is my favorite summer time unit, I hunt up high north of the rim. Dont know much about the southern part but if someone knows it and offers to show you around they could save you a bunch of trouble. Id take that offer. Good luck!

    24b Late hunt

Ive seen some decent little bucks coming out of the October hunts but nothing past the 90" mark. Theres plenty of coues in that unit, you should have a good hunt.

    Mazatzal Wilderness

Ive backpacked in the east of it several times. Theres some deer elk bears cats, whatever you want. Nice part is you hike up to get in and if you shoot something its mostly downhill to get it out.

    Utah Muley

Awesome buck! Whats the tag situation like in utah, do you have to draw archery tags?
  13. Which units are you planning on pounding? 33, 37A/B for me. Im sure I'll do at least one overnighter in 33, but will be 24b for December. Ive come across a good looking muley spot that needs some attention.

    Over the counter - Units 28, 31, and 32

I heard rumor there was some hanging around riggs lake up on top of the pinalenos. Elk are usually around a reliable water source and I dont think that range is exactly loaded with those.

Normally I pull into town on a mission and hit the woods hard with my family and friends playing second fiddle. This time I tried to do better but the timber pulls so hard. Harvesting this deer mid trip allowed me to actually relax with my family for the last half. I was truly grateful for the time I got to watch my son interact with my wife and I's parents. Definitely put things in perspective for me, even if it was a bit late. I had hoped for a morning kill so I could drag my father and my son to the woods for some photos but ended up sealing the deal near last light with a recovery in the dark. Momma had put the boy to sleep and said he couldn't come out and play. Best I could do was a picture with a cleaned up skull the next day. He lives to "look at deer pitchers" with me and was pretty pumped to hold some antlers. KSskull.JPG Good stuff right there amigo. He'll be out there with you soon enough, the best times of yours & his lives are right in front of you, trust me I know! I've got a 14 year old that won't let me out of her sight during deer season now & I'm glad for it. This year I've vowed to leave my bow in the car until she gets one, or at least for December. In January we'll split up & hunt ambushes so I can take it then. My 2 y.o. daughter & I have a thing where every time we go up & down the stairs we count "Daddy's deer" on the wall... "one... two... three!" Hopefully I'll put a nice one down this January & then she can count four of them.
  17. Im thinking about meandering around the low rolly stuff looking for muleys in dec and then moving up high for a coues deer in january, just in time for the rut. Variety is the spice of life and all that...
