PRDATR, I see your point on the landcover I'm going to adjust the contrast and report back. I realize not everyone looks at these maps the same way I do. My goal is to make useful maps, I appreciate the criticism.

You guys should give Avenza PDF Maps a try. Its a free app that works with smartphones/tablets that allows you to use your device like a GPS. You do not need a signal and it even works on airplane mode. I make unit specific maps for $10 and once you buy them they are yours forever. The PDF Maps app records waypoints, and tracks just like a GPS and includes the metadata like time, date, and really any other attribute you care to log. You can also use it to plot stalks, measure distance, and log photos with your waypoints. When you want to look at the data its all easily exportable to Google earth. User Interface If you wnat to try it out, first install the Avenza PDF Maps app to your device. Then download an AZ GMU map for the PDFMaps app here. 6ANut, Thats a great idea, I'd be happy to make that map for you, thats the true definition of a Custom Map. If your interested in ditching your GPS, you should give my Digital Maps a try. They work with the Avenza PDF Maps app and turn your cell phone into a GPS with a custom USGS topo base map. No need for a signal and the app even works on airplane mode. I've never been to 10 either but I have the Unit mapped and that includes the Big BO boundary and Ranch Access Points. You can also use the interactive Game Planner Free Map Viewer to research the unit before you head-up to scout. Its free to use, just register with a valid email. This is a Game Planner Custom Map I made this one for my buddy who drew a LE Elk tag for Wyoming Unit 11 this year. Since he is a back pack hunter and likes to move camp frequently we decided to trim down the map to just the area he would be hunting. This map measures 21X30" and is printed at 1:30000 scale. It includes: Modified surface ownership of Private/No Hunting BLM and State. All other lands are USFS Surface water Springs/seeps Unit boundaries Forest Roads USGS 7.5' topographic base map This is a good example of the purpose built unit specific maps I like to make. He is not hunting the northern portion of the unit and most of it is private anyway, so there is really no reason to have it on the map. I can make unit wide maps but when you order a Game Planner Custom its important to ask yourself "what do I need?". Use the Free Map Viewer to research your unit and formulate your Game Plan. Then we talk about your map, and you get something built for your needs. I can even do a different area on each side of your map and add any GPS data or Google Earth way points you collect or create to your map. Thanks Amanda and everyone else for the kind words. It's exciting to see so many people that find my maps useful. Hike4, Yes, all the springs/seeps and waterbodies are from USGS. The data isn't always complete but its pretty dang close. Is some instances a spring may have dried up or is seasonal. I'm on the fence about publishing the water catchments. But the data is in my possession and I invested a lot of time to digitize it, so in the end it will probably happen. I'm happy everyone likes the Map Viewer. I encourage you to try the Free Premium Trial and see if you like making maps for your phone. Its exclusive to Registered Users and you have to be signed in to access it. Its risk free, no CC needed. The PDF Maps app and Digital Maps are awesome in the field and make collecting, analyzing, and even sharing data easy.

For those who hunt leftovers every year it can be a gamble not knowing what tag you will draw. Read about my 2016 leftover hunt and some of the ways I used Game Planner Products to punch my tag. Not everyone has access to a plotter or large format printer. Anyone can use the Free Map Viewer to print maps like the letter size layout below. A couple updates/notes: I'm in the process of updating all the forest roads layers so they closely reflect the MVUM roads as classified by the USFS. Once a complete dataset of the official MVUM roads are released I will publish them as well. All Big Game Ranges are approximate, think of them as broad strokes. I gathered them from RMEF, wafwa, and state game and fish agencies and they are generally used for survey purposes. Game Planner Maps has limitations and one of them is the Base Layers. Most of them are maintained by USGS and their reliability is generally good. However, occasionally you may experience slower response times or interruptions in service. For the most part the USGS Topo and Imagery base maps are very dependable.

I'll be posting up a few examples of the different maps that I provide. This is a map generated from the Arizona Premium Map Viewer. Layers include: Forest Roads Forest Trails Waterbodies Springs/Seeps It is on a USGS 7.5' Topographic base map. I printed the map at 1:42000 scale which allows for good detail on the base map and ~200 mi² of coverage. I used the Digital Map template which is only available on the Premium Map Viewer. Its GeoEnabled so It works with the Free Avenza PDF Maps app to turn your mobile device into a GPS. It took me longer to write this post than it did to layout, print, and download the map. I stash all my GeoPDFs and Digital Maps on my GoogleDrive or Dropbox.com account. The Avenza PDF Maps app is configured to link directly to dropbox, which makes importing your maps easy.
