So nice to have met you and Cody, and share good times in some beautiful country. We were excited for your first javelina, and glad we could be there. That rifle is really something else. Maybe you can post some of the photos Cody texted me along with specs. Again congrats, and maybe we'll run into you again next year.

Between myself and my 3 kids, we have shot 17 of them over the last 7 years. After trying to analyze things to death in figuring these little stinkers out, I finally got it down. Here is the all encompassing rule to keep in mind. THEY ARE WHERE THEY ARE Good luck all!! Heading out with my oldest to go for number 18 this weekend. Can't wait.

Awesome Jim!! Huge congrats, and glad baby and mom are doing well. I can't wait to see the pink camo.

In my experience cold doesn't really bother them. Have seen them in weather below 20, like it's nothing. It's more the cold + wind. Add these two together, and they will stay down.

I ended up moving out of the hills and into the flats, and finally got this one today. Happy to be done.

Unit 27 December Hunt, last minute success!
John O replied to ScottAdams's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great job, and how nice to do it with good friends and so much support. Congrats, and I look forward to seeing him on the wall. -
I have come to really enjoy the Aug/Sept archery hunt down south each year. Lot's of coues and muley transition areas, very little pressure, and no problem finding decent bucks. I realize there is a heightened sense of awareness required to be down there, but I would contend that the most dangerous part of the hunt is the highway drive there and back. Happy hunting to those going out, and good luck!!

Do you have a break on your 7mm RUM? I think your process is excellent, but I also have to think there have been times where a follow up shot was needed. If hearing protection is used, this can start to get tricky. So maybe what I'm hoping for is a "part 2" of your process on how you handle follow up shots. My daughter has her first javelina hunt in Jan., and I want to have these type of situations well thought through and planned for.

I have a Savage 110 .270 I am looking to sell. It currently sits on a Hogue pillar bedded synthetic stock. I also will include the original walnut stock, which was cut back one inch and used by my boys as a youth size rifle when they were young. Shoots better than an inch with all loads I have put through it. I'll get some photos posted up later today. Can meet up in the Tucson area. $275

My 10 year old son's first deer and my split eye guard buck

Best hunt story of the year so far!! Great job, and what an awesome memory for you and your son. Hopefully you are doing something special with those antlers for Hunter. Awesome!! -
Please pray for the family of Daniel Nogales, who passed away of natural causes while hunting in 36B today. He goes by id_danman on this forum, and is a Border Patrol agent out of Tucson. He leaves a loving wife and 4 young children. I visited with them tonight, and they will have a tough road ahead. Thanks.

Every time I have the opportunity to hunt with my boys I feel greatly blessed. Sometimes we get skunked, and other times we have success, but either way we always work our tails off and have a blast. They had early youth tags down south, and we found the hunt to be much more difficult than expected. Fortunately, we had some meat to bring home, and some awesome character on this little mule deer buck. (No jokes on the size of the Javelina. Sometimes smaller is better)

My 11 year old daughter planning on hunting in January, and she will be doing the online hunter safety course, with the 4 hour field day. I did this with my son 3 years ago, and I saved all my notes and stuff that I used with him. Does anyone know if the curriculum and tests have changed much or at all since about 2010-2011?

Bump for a great little bow. Looks like the twin of my first compound bow. Shot a coues and 2 pigs with it before graduating to Xforce. Would be a great starter bow for an older teenager or new hunter.

My first time hunting Coues deer or unit 36A
John O replied to Gduncan's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have two Marlin X7's, and they both shoot under an inch right out of the box. Excellent value, and great economical rifle. The piece of advice I have is that often the bucks will bed early in the morning when pressured, and then get up and feed around between 10 and 1. Many times, this is when hunters head back to camp and take a break. If you keep glassing the lower thick stuff during this time, you might catch one up, and they seem to spook less easy during this time. Good luck!! -
Here is my daughter shooting the marlin 243 for the first time. She loved it. We spent a whole week decorating it with a scope pink camo wrap. Good times!!
