The deer in the first picture is only the head and ear. It was bedded down and looking left almost center of picture. The second picture one is out in the open and easy to see. The other one is left in the shadows. There was actually a third deer in the picture but I couldn't even see it in the picture down in the trees to the lower right corner.

Well we picked up a few leftover tags for down south and went down this last week to our little area that we hang out in. We decided that we would go down Sunday and hunt through the end of the hunt to have the unit to ourselves. Little did we know that everyone in the area had the same plan. One of my buddy's has never shot a coues deer so that was our first priority. The first morning glassing we find a real narrow but tall 3 pt at about 800 yds bedded down. So we send our buddy off. As he is getting close the buck gets up and starts to move. That is about the time that I see the tail and realize it is a muley. So I am on the radio yelling not to shoot. Finally he understands what I am trying to say and comes back. He was ready to shoot at 175 yds before I went psycho on the radio. Most of the hunt was similar with several stalks on nice bucks but it just not working out. The last morning we were able to get him on a nice buck and he made a great 450 yd shot. We clean and quarter the buck, load it up and start packing it out. We are less than 200 yds from the road when a buck jumps in front of me and think about it for a few seconds and decide to take it. Probably my smallest buck but definitely the easiest pack ever. Here are a couple pictures.

I am heading out this afternoon to help a friend and his son on a hunt. We are really hoping we can get his son on something decent. I am loving the cooler weather. Especially after my coues hunt where it was in the 80's every day.

Both cool pictures. I never had a clue they could climb like that.

Body Count Rising ..5 more dogs

I am impressed every time you post pictures of all the dogs you get. I would love to hear your technique some day. I can go calling in an area that I can hear them howling at night or in the morning and still only get them to come in occasionally. -
The deer in the first picture is bedded down in the grass. Azbirdhunter88 is correct on the second picture. The deer in the shadow is the one I saw first. Thought I was doing good until I saw the one standing in the wide open. Don't know how I missed her at first. I had a total of 7 does on that hillside at one time.

That is strange. No Vortex on their site at all. Guess they did stop carrying them.

Congrats on a couple great bucks. I was going to message you but got too busy. I was down south this last week and was going to see if you were in the same unit. -
Just had this conversation on my hunt this last weekend. I poked myself twice cleaning two bucks. Real minor but still makes you think. They are scary. It doesn't always work but I try to cut away from myself whenever possible. Glad you are ok. And great buck by the way.

That is a great buck. Would love to see how big the other one was. Congrats to your wife.

How did your bullet perform at 7 yards? Nice buck by the way.
-
Congrats on a great bear. The best part is it looks like you had plenty of help for the pack out.
-
Not only is your son going to have a hard time passing that, you are going to have a hard time catching up. Congrats on a buck of a lifetime.

Boys got it done! First tags filled!! And something weird.

Great bucks. I have seen the larva in several deer nostrils through the years. It seems pretty common. -
Congrats on both. Great buck. I had the same tag a couple years ago and the burn can be a zoo with hunters everywhere.

AZDiamondHeat, I am going to have to call you out. I saw a toy hauler on the side of your house when I was there that would make most of us jealous. Pretty sure you are cooking on a stove inside. I on the other hand am roughing it with a Camp Chef 3 burner with the hinged grill and a griddle like about half the guys in this post.

Great coolers. I have a 65 and love it.

Wow is all I can say.

Either you have the best spot in the state or I have a lot to learn about calling in coyotes. And I think it is the ladder of the two. Excellent calling. -
Buck down. Story. Plus something weird

I think it would make a neat mount. Cool buck. I have heard it happening with muleys too. Chef here on the site shot what him and all of Duwane Adams guides thought was a monster buck only to walk up on it and it being a little buck with a good rack. -
I have the same rifle and shoot 2" groups at 500 yds shooting the 140 grain Berger VLD bullets. I love the rifle. I never shot it without a muzzle break so I can't say anything about recoil. In fact that is the rifle in my avatar picture.

Great buck. Congrats to your son. Hunts like that are character builders. You should be proud of him.

There was recently a thread on the same topic. I think for the money the same Harris 27" swivel bipod that you were using is about as good as you can get. I just put one on one of my rifles and really like it.

Cool buck. Congrats

I was there a few years ago and we went out for a day fish. We took turns on the pole and ended up landing 3 fish. There were six of us total. If I was to do it again I would want a max of 4 guys and fish for whatever is biting instead of going for bigger fish. It can be pretty slow waiting for bites.
