    Colorado high country buck!

Great story and pictures. That looks like an incredible time. Not sure about the solo thing but everything else looked awesome. Congrats

    Tecnique - Camera Saturation

Rifleman, keep us updated on what happens with the whole court thing. Maybe we can all pitch in and raise some funds if it drags out and gets more expensive.

    Maps

Does Flatline Maps have maps for unit 36A. I have both of them for the unit I hunt and they are incredible. They are also a sponsor on this site if I am not mistaken.

    114 Velvet Coues Wall Pedestal

I was up in Young this last weekend and stopped by to show a couple friends Dale's shop and some of his work. Pictures do not do this buck justice. It is absalutely beautiful.

    Taxidermy Gone Bad

Ernesto, I though the same thing, funny. Most of them are very old which makes them look really bad.

    2012 Jr. 23 tag

What are your goals for the hunt? Are you trying to shoot something big or are you just looking to get your first muley? There are several areas where you can hunt and will see plenty of deer and you should be able to shoot something. If I were you, I would really look into the youth camp they have. There will be guys that know the unit really well helping out.
  8. Congrats Dillon on your first buck. I know grown men that can't keep it together when they get ready to shoot a buck.

    Market Pig

Oh I remember the days. My dad owned a pig farm growing up. It was always nice having the pic of the litters. We won grand champion quality several times. My brother has taken over the operation and now his daughter wins champion almost every year. Good times for sure. Good luck with the showing and sale.

    Bear climbs up tree stand

It reminded me of when I get after my dog and he tucks his head and walks off. That was too funny.

    Utah bull elk

Nice bull. It does look a lot like the country in Colorado in elk77's defense. I drew a Kiabab tag one year and spent a lot of time shooting out past 500 yds only to shoot my buck at 35 yds when he walked past our glassing spot.

    getting a little frustrated...

When I shot my bull this last year I was within 20 yds of cattle. They were all together. So I don't know how much the cattle affect them. It might just be the time of year for them to start moving like others have said.

    23 Late muley

I have seen pictures of some monsters that have come out of 23. I have been putting in for the early mule deer hunt for a couple years. I have never seen one though in all the years I have been hunting 23. Which is close to 15. I have seen some very nice coues deer and bulls though. Maybe that December tag is the ticket to seeing them.

    2012 Weight loss thread

Looks like I am not alone. I have been right at 195 for most of my adult life but the last few years I got up to close to 220. I have really felt it in my knees. At 45 it is harder getting around the mountains than it used to be. I cut out soda (mt dew) a few months ago and almost instantly dropped 10 back off. I am actually just starting to go to the LA Fitness on Signal Butte and Baseline. Speedygoss, I think this is the one that you are going to.

    Duwane Adams

I used his map service 6 or 7 years ago. When I got the maps at first thought I was kind of pissed off. They were forest service maps with areas circled and some arrows pointing in different directions. There was also a couple sheets of paper with notes printed on them. The more I got to reading and looking at the maps the more impressed I was. He gives you areas for if the weather is still warm and also if they get some snow and freezes. More importanly he tells you how to hunt the areas that he has sent you. The important thing is to try your best to get up there at least once and look at the country so that you can actually see what is on the map. I was so glad that I did the map service. If you are doing it this year I would hurry so that he can get everything to you. I shot a nice buck and the other guy that split the cost of the map service missed a 200" buck. He miss judged the distance and shot under it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Bow hunting turkey: which points to use

If you can find them and break up the flock you can do some calling. They are like quail and once the flock is broken up they will call to relocate each other.

    What maps do you Use?

If you are after paper maps go to Flatline Maps. They sell maps by the units that you want and they are bullet proof. Some of the guys that i hunt with instantly bought them once they saw them. I'm not sure if they are a sponsor on the site or not but I do know they had a deal on here last year helping out Josh with his wife. They are still working on getting more units but have a pretty good list so far. Great maps! http://www.flatlinemaps.com/

    Glassing for Coues

I took Duwane Adams glassing class some years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I knew how to glass but he taught us when and where to glass. Deer are where they are but for the most part they are predictable. I think it is worth looking into his class.

    Luck of the draw?

I know families that draw great tags every year. The thing they don't say is that they all put in separately and someone gets lucky and draws. That way they get to hunt every year. Not all of them but they get to all go as a family. That could be the case in this situation.

    whats your effective range?

Hoyt Rampage 29" draw 70lbs 100gr Shuttle T Lock I shoot out to 70 yds but my max shot in the field would be 50 yds and maybe 60 if the conditions were perfect which I haven't seen yet. My furthest shot on anything so far is 25 yds and my closest is 3 yds. It is fun getting close.
  21. 12 AW mule deer and muzzle loader mule deer. I get to hunt coues deer in Mexico.

    Fire near Young!

Those switchbacks coming down off the rim have always been horible. I always come into Young from the south side. Has anyone heard what caused the fire to begin with?

    Fire near Young!

That is too bad. I sure hope they get it under control soon. I shot my first bull not far from Round Mt a few years ago.

    Tikka T3 scope mounts question

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up going with the EGW rail and rings. I went with the HD 20 moa rail and the low rings. According to their site I shouldn't have any problems with clearance. I should have the rifle all set up by this next weekend. I already had a muzzle break installed so it will be ready for Mexico this next year. Next will be working up a load for it.
