FIRST MULEY FIRST YEAR WITH A BOW! FINALLY HOME!!
Basser15 replied to KiLLAcOuEs's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
That's a great buck. Congrats! -
Tried to do some research on where you can archery hunt in the metro unit here in Tucson. Is it necessary to stay a quarter mile from an inhabited building like you would with a firearm? The reason I ask is there are a series of washes in and around my neighborhood west of the I -10 and it appears to hold quite a few pigs. I'm going to call game and fish on Monday to get some details on it but I figured I would start here to ask where you can hunt in and around the neighborhoods.

That's a great buck. Congrats

He is turning in to quite an accomplished hunter for his age....following in the Old Man's footsteps.

That's really cool to see. Thanks for providing the pics and story I do have a question though. It was my understanding that deer hybrids were sterile and could not reproduce similar to how mules cannot reproduce. You said that the oldest hybrid doe had a fawn this summer so that made me think of that. Amanda or anyone else know more about that?

Congrats on your trophy. Think seeing something like that would be the only reason I would feel like shooting a javelina again...

Finally updated the blog with a little story from the hunt. http://teamkendrickoutdoors.blogspot.com/2012/11/early-rifle-bull-hunt.html

Felt pretty fortunate to draw a great bull tag this year with a buddy of mine. We hunted hard and were rewarded with a couple of good bulls. Shot mine first think in the morning and before we had mine completely off of the mountain my buddy was able to get his first elk about 350 yards from where I took mine. My 2012 elk My buddy's first elk Had a lot of good friends helping out on this hunt but unfortunately they all had to leave the day before we killed these bulls and the real work began!

Don't really know how to describe this year other then I've been having a hunting season that I can only hope to reproduce at some point in my life. Archery bucks in Utah with some good buddies, my biggest bull on the same day as helping a good friend on killing his first bull, and now this past Friday I killed my biggest coues buck to round out the Opening Day Trifecta. Ron, Stan, and myself headed out opening day to an area that I've hunted over the last several years that has been very good to us. The day started by locating two groups of bucks and a handful of does. The group with the biggest deer were quite a ways away and disappeared in to a cut by 9:00am. The second group disappeared for a while but then reappeared on a hillside 800 yards away and began to bed down. As Ron and I were debating if we wanted to shoot the bigger buck in the group Stan called us on the radio to see what was up and we decided this would be a good group of deer for him and his sons to go in after. At 11:00am we had the first deer down for the day. Once the pictures and processing done we sent Stan and his boys on their way back to the trucks and Ron and I worked our way back towards the bigger bucks that we had located that morning. At 3:30pm we were in a position to look in to the cut that the deer had disappeared in to and withing five minutes we had them located as they were up and feeding. Where they were located we could just catch glimpses of them over the ridge and working between the trees so Ron and I decided to relocate to the knob opposite of where they were at to get a better view and possible shot at them. By 4:15pm or so we were in position and had the bucks located and within range. It turns out there were 5 or 6 bucks in this cut with two of them being pretty dang big. Unfortunately one of the big boys was able to make his escape but Ron and I were able to pull a double to complete the opening day trifecta. Before you see the pics I really want to thank Ron for his help and allowing for me to take my biggest Coues buck to date. Ron with his handsome buck Our two bucks that went down about 50 yards apart My buck ended up scoring over 102" and is more than I could have hoped to take on this hunt. My goal was to take one bigger than I did last year and I did so in a big way. Here is a pick of our Opening Day Trifecta and a quick end to a great hunt! I could only wish to ever duplicate the year that I'm have someday....and it's not even over yet as i get to head to Mexico in January to chase some big coues deer one more time.

Thanks for the tips guys. Hopefully that should do the trick I've got back ups too but this is my Grandfather's gun and it's going to kill a big bull this season!

I could really use some help figuring out an ejector issue on my rifle. The gun: Weatherby Mark V 7mm Mag Issue: two weeks ago the bolt got dropped while being cleaned and the ejector pin and spring came out. I was able to get them back in as it appeared that the bracing pin that runs perpendicular to is just slid over and allowed it to displace the spring and ejector pin. Over this past weekend I was at the range finishing sighting the gun in about every 3-5 shots the pin would come back out, which would not allow for the next round to be chambered. The spring only came out with the pin once. Do I need to take it to a gunsmith or is there an easy fix for me? My bull hunt is in 3 weeks so I'm obviously wanting to figure something out rather quickly. Here is the pin in question (which is in place right now) Here is where the small pin that holds in the ejector pin and spring is at. Please Help!!!
