    hits the spot

Was their two Los Hermanos restaurants in Superior??? The one I'm familiar with have been open for many many years, and is still open, alive & well. Big place with a bar, right next to the little rest area they built towards the east end of town. LOVE stopping in there for fresh tortillas! S.

  5. Our experience was similar to your's, kfallsrob. We hit some of our standard 'go-to' areas, with spotty results. Came across a few very large coveys (like 100+ birds), which we always love to see on opening weekend, but then other spots had sparse 10-15 bird coveys. Overall, it was pretty decent though. Now I'm gonna focus on deer and elk over the next few weeks. Will be interesting to see how the bird hunting shapes-up for the Dec-Jan cooler weather months. S.
  6. I started my 'glassing career' with a decent set of Pentax 10x42's on a cheap Slik tripod. In my early experience, basically ANY binoculars are way better on a tripod! Tripod usage will open-up a whole new world for you! Doug at Cameraland is the man!!! Good luck! S.
  7. Ya baby!!!! I'll be out this weekend in my old haunts, for sure!!! LOVE chasing Gambel's!!!! S.

    Unit 22 Youth Hunt

Maybe my favorite Jr. Hunt post of the season, so far!!!! Just love the fact that you all got out there, and love the fact that once again the amazing volunteers at the Jr. Hunt Camp were willing to lend their expertise and experience to you! Just SO cool that he was able to get his first deer! NOTHING beats mentoring and hunting with kids! S

    questionable AZ history

I only know one off the top of my head; Sonora, AZ was where the current Ray Mine sits. My parents and older brother & sisters lived in Sonora when my dad was a young mining engineer. In the mid-60s, the town of Kearny was built to house all of the miners so the mine could be expanded (effectively swallowing-up the town of Sonora....). Cool thread! I LOVE old AZ history!!

Walking in the dark to your stand...

Ditto, Andrew!!! I hike in the dark all the time in and out of hunting spots. Sure enough, last week while hiking in for a morning of scouting/glassing down south I stepped right over this dude. Funky coloring on it and hard to see in this pic, but it was a RATTLER! Totally had the willies the rest of the hike! Then glassing later, I almost set my hand down on this little Coral snake! WTH??? 😲 S.

    New Mexico elk 2019

Nice going! Thanks for sharing with the site! Regarding the sentiment of "not evening being a little bit proud....", hey man, I say forget all that stuff!!! The way I see it; You went hunting with your father-in-law, spent some great time in the good ol' outdoors, saw some elk, and killed a couple! The outdoors, family, elk, memories. That right there sounds like a great trip to me!!! πŸ˜‰ ✌️ S.

  24. I spent a couple of hours in that exact Walmart parking lot a couple of years ago when the transmission on my dad's old 1995 GMC gave-out as I was heading out for a Utah deer hunt! 🀣 Was grateful it happened then as opposed to on highway 89 1/2 way between Flagstaff and Marble Canyon..... In my case there was no quick fix, and I ended-up having to rent a truck for the hunt. As mentioned, BIG kudos to you for getting right on it and pressing-on! A good story for the campfire down the road.... Good luck!!!! S.
