Came across this little 3 1/2 foot fatty while quail hunting on opening weekend. Did his job and buzzed loudly prior to me seeing him...... Scared the crap out of me!! S.

Way to go, Nick!!! THAT is what it is all about, my friend!!! The 30-30 with iron sights makes it that much more awesome, IMO (something a little nostalgic about that... )!! Awesome for your boy!!! I agree that kudos go to the AZ G&F for offering this hunt for the young ones. All three of my children killed their first deer on this hunt, and it was an amazing experience for them! I was up there again this past weekend with a friend and his two kids for their first deer kills. Can't get enough of the Jr. Hunts!!! Thanks for sharing with the site!! S.

Question about hours and pay as a salaried employee
stanley replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
+ 1 to some of the other comments. Like many others here, I work in the 'corporate' world. This is standard practice.... Nothing new or out of the ordinary. Exempt vs. Non-exempt employees are treated different legally. Exempt employees (salaried) do not get compensated for the hours they work. They get compensated for the work they do. Six months of 7x per week sounds a bit extreme, and I would be surprised if that is actually the case (they would lose too many people to attrition, IMO....). I basically work 7 days per week, 365 per year because I have a large organization I am responsible for. There are always phone calls, working nights, etc. I'm lucky though, in that there is flexibility afforded to those who burn the midnight oil. If I or someone who works for me works off hours or extremely long hours for a period of itme, the option is there to flex time around and get a little time off to keep from going crazy and/or getting burned-out. I've got a Montbell Gore Tex shell that I bought almost 20 years ago for a trip to Alaska. Still keeps me nice and dry! S.

I'm thinking that organization could be VERY busy! With all of the crap that flies around the internet these days, who has time to worry about discrediting anyone?

Saw a camera and an unused pop-up blind on a nice tank in 6B while elk hunting last weekend. Nobody was on the tank for the first 3 days of the archery season, so a buddy of mine put a stand up on a tree (different tree than the camera was on) to sit the tank for a couple of evenings. While we were hanging the stand I walked in front of the camera, paused, and gave a big smile and thumbs-up to let the camera guy know we were there and didn't have a problem with his property being strapped to the tree. Hopefully the camera operator takes the pic(s) of me and my goofy mug for what they were intended, a simple 'how do you do.....'. Cameras in trees and on posts? Who cares.... Does not impact me in the least.... Good luck everyone! S.

Fantasy football doesn't cause arguments or name calling, maybe if some members could discuss political topics without turning a thread into a bashing she wouldn't mind. Just sayingso if threads are PC and correct then is ok? Not my website not my rules just simply stating my opinion. Whether this matter 'has a great deal of impact on us all.' is very debatable, IMO. As to wanting to hear from others, it's simple...... Read her advice. Find a forum that is made for that kind of stuff and post and hear all you want. As to which topics get moderated or not and why, Coues assassin figured it out. Muledeerarea33, it is not about 'PC' at all. It's about the fact that this site belongs to someone who has wishes for it and how it is used, and she has made it clear. It's not that hard to understand what she has clearly stated. Seriously guys, kind of as Casey elluded to..... How about simple respect for Amanda and her site that we are all fortunate enough to enjoy? S.

Taken from the top of the Campfire forum; "The Campfire Gather round the campfire and let's see where the discussion goes. This forum is the place for everything hunting and outdoors related that doesn't fit in the other categories." Pretty clear what the spirit of this site and particular forum is..... Thanks for clarifying, Amanda! S.

??? for you / ALMOST DOVE TIME! yeee ha
stanley replied to hoghntr's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
That sucks about the mess out there, Lance! Given the limited access and the real privilege it is to have the right to hunt at that dairy, it baffles me that anyone would be so lazy and ignorant as to leave a mess like that. My group and I ended-up hunting there early last Friday morning. We then spent the weekend at a different dairy that a mutual friend owns a little further West (of course slayed them there, too.... ). I'm glad that you and your crew had some great days of hunting out there! No more dove hunting for me this season, as I'm heading out tomorrow for a week in the forest with an archery bull tag in my pocket. LOTS of bacon wrapped dove will be grilled at elk camp this year though! S. PS: GREAT pics!!! -

Love it!!!! Thank God for the plug in my auto loader!! Went out with a couple of buddies again this morning and slayed MANY birds. What fun! 75+ birds between three of us..... (The Eurasian is the best thing to happen to Arizona dove hunting in a long time, IMO! ) S.
