WHAT U CAN DO TODAY
runningbird replied to coueshunter's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
This afternoon is a great time to call. It looks like there are only a couple of meetings on the agenda. Most of the legislators should be available. -

Here is what Debbie McCune Davis had to say. You are welcome. This bill is very bad for Arizona and we will continue to fight it until it goes away. Debbie -

RING RING RING - NEW INFO: the phone calls going to the Reps are not coming from those who are opposing. It's the Bill supporters who are making the inroads with calls and meetings. It is not just the lobbyist! Each individual who wants to make a difference needs to act now and continue to act until the session is over. Contact the Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and members of the committees most likely to hear this bill along with your reps: Energy and Natural Resources: Pratt and Brophy McGee and members Military Affairs and Public Safety: Gowan and Proud and members Agriculture and Water: Jones and Crandell and members Pierce and Tobin, and Reeves who are key legislators with leverage. Call these numbers if you want to be directed to their offices: Arizona House of Representatives Capitol Complex 1700 West Washington Phoenix, AZ 85007-2890 Info Desk (602) 926-4221 Arizona State Senate Capitol Complex 1700 West Washington Phoenix, AZ 85007-2890 Info Desk (602) 926-3559 -
WHAT U CAN DO TODAY

Bad News. Groups in support of HB2072 have access to and are making their pitch to legislators - including TODAY. The behind the scene work is in full swing. Be very much aware AZSFW and beneficiaries/supporters(?) are re-tailoring their sales pitch to hit the buttons of each rep they meet and doing whatever it takes to get the votes they need. Strategic undeclared republicans and democrats are now being hit hard... many probably have no idea the misinformation being fed to them. A friend of mine spoke with Ruben Gallegos this afternoon and Mr. Gallegos shared that he had met with Bill Supporters earlier in the day. My friend said Mr. Gallegos did listen for a few minutes but in the end he would only say that he was "researching" the issue. This is the same exact wording I have recently heard being used by other reps. BIG RED FLAG... to me "researching" is a code word at this stage of the game. We cannot underestimate the expertise of the AZSFW lobbyist team or the paybacks owed. We also cannot relax until the 2012 Legislative Session has gone home for the year. Sorry folks - we don't have just a few days to go - so hang on, keep making the calls, keep reaching out, stay on guard, and don't stop until they go home! p.s. one of the most effective ways right now for legislator/senator contact is to call them and ask to speak with them. Ask them to return your call, and do it all over again at least every day until they follow through. State your concerns, ask their position, ask them for their advice on how to stay on top of this, ask them procedural questions such as what committee could hear this bill if it becomes a striker and who is on the committee, what other reps should I be contacting, etc... that's how I've been learning and trying to pass along what I can. If you can meet with your rep - praise you and let us know how it goes. Also, don't underestimate the power of educating their staff - as they too can help convey your passion and concerns. Remember the vast majority of people involved with this are decent hard working Arizonan's just like us Always be kind - know your mind - act - make your mom proud! ... okay way too tired... -

http://www.azleg.sta...tteeAgendas.asp I've been checking this site all day. there have been some changes on the striker side. But so far nothing on 2072. Also checked with Steve Pierce's office twice today and they are still not seeing this move at all. I was told they have heard nothing about it at all this week. But they have gotten some calls against it. -

Better info. Runningbird, I believe that refers to getting the permission of the sponsor of the bill being struck, that is, the person whose bill is being set aside. In this case the "new" bill number we are watching for, not HB2072. Bruce Here is the link to the page that provides daily updates on committee agendas. This is likely where any striker will show up first. Notice that when you look at a particular committee agenda, the column on the right gives information on "strikers". http://www.azleg.state.az.us/CommitteeAgendas.asp -

Got this from Tony Guiles this morning. I think this portion may be very important. "Moreover, protocol requires a legislator offering a striker to first get the permission of the original bill’s sponsor." Was Weiers the original sponsor? If so we should be once again bombarding his office with calls, emails and everything else possible. Strikers are very hard to track and that's one of the things that makes them so dangerous. I would continue to contact your legislators on a weekly basis letting them know your concerns. At this point in time it doesn't hurt to sound like a broken record. A “strike everything after the enacting clause” amendment (also referred to as a “strike everything” amendment or simply a “striker”) proposes to delete the entire text of the existing bill and substitute new language, essentially making it a completely different bill, possibly on an entirely different subject. These amendments are sometimes used to allow legislators to circumvent the deadlines on introduction of new legislation, deal with an issue that arises after the deadline or revive a bill that has previously been defeated. Because of the drastic effect of a strike everything amendment, legislative rules impose extended posting and notice requirements beyond those for other amendments. Moreover, protocol requires a legislator offering a striker to first get the permission of the original bill’s sponsor. Legislators may not propose strike everything amendments in either the Rules Committee or Committee of the Whole of either house or in a conference committee. -
Looking to see if any of you are interested in getting a table at the AES banquet. Mark

Talking to a friend last night about an idea, come to find out he had the same idea and has acted on it. The thought was how do we get info about important bill or changes in a quick way. He has started a site and will collect all the Email addresses he can, when something comes up like what happened at the capitol yesterday he can let us all know. He will NEVER give out our email address to another person or group. Go to the site and check it out, please keep in mind that it has just started has of yesterday. Governor hearing a sales pitch for HB2072 today
runningbird replied to audsley's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I am going to supply a link to an overview of this bill. http://www.azleg.gov//FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/50leg/2r/summary/h.hb2072_01-09-12_com.doc.htm&Session_ID=107 Now I am going to show a portion of that bill that is very concerning. DISTRIBUTION OF PROCEEDS BY QUALIFIED ORGANIZATION • Applies the proceeds from the resale of tags to cover all costs associated with the annual Arizona sportsmen exposition and county chapter banquets. • Directs remaining monies to programs and costs of administration to achieve these purposes: Youth sportsmen education and outdoor programs. Access for sportsmen to cross private lands onto public lands. Sustain, enhance and increase habitat and big game species. Facilitate education and communication programs relative to sportmen and wildlife. Protect sportsmen's heritage and conduct activities to promote the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Read the first line!!! It is my feeling that this opens the door for a lot of people to get paid! I don’t think there will be any funds left for the AZGFD after the sale of these tags! Mark -
Governor hearing a sales pitch for HB2072 today
runningbird replied to audsley's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Well everyone, We have our work cut out for us!!!! This was actually the second meeting with the Governors staff. Suzanne and Alan Hamberlin have made it clear that they are pushing forward with this bill. So the Governors staff was fully aware that this is a controversial issue . It is time to really hammer Both the Governors office and ALL the legislatures. George is correct in that this may end up has a Striker Bill. A Striker would be a Bill that has already made it through Committee hearings. Then on the Floor someone could "Strike Everything" - meaning the language in that bill. They would then insert the language that was HB2072, vote on it, and its on its way to the Governor. If we put enough pressure on both the legislature and the Governors office, then they will have to make a choice between Alan Hamberlins money and your votes at the next election. If you have the ability to go down in person and meet with legislatures that would be most effective. Remember at all times to be respectful. -
Christine and I will go.
