I used to hunt a little North of Phoenix all the time.... But then they built a development out there....I think they called it Anthem... anyway you sure don't need to go far.

Preparation for upcoming hunts what Diet and conditioning.
runningbird replied to swaro06's topic in The Campfire
I've been running every day for the last 6 weeks, and will run at lunch when I'm hunting. it helps me aclimate to the altitude. Trying to cut down on a lot of animal products and just trying to stay healthy. I leave in a week for three weeks of hunting. Can't wait! -
I leave mine up all the time. But they are not on water or in places of heavy traffic. My thought is that it's not doing me any good sitting in the house...I have never had one stolen or bothered at all by humans. If one gets stolen I may change my mind but maybe not. I have 4 out now and can't wait to check them in a week.

I would not take sharpness for granted..I have gotten many new broadheads that were not as sharp as I like.

Glad to see this group get going. Good work everybody! -
pretty sharp is not sharp enough. I pulled out a 8 year old package of Muzzys yesterday. I had the package open once before. I could shave with those blades with no problem. I'm not saying slick trick are bad, Just not what I want out of a broadhead. they were the best flying non mechanical head I'd shot.
-
I have shot slick trick and they do fly well, but try to resharpen them. Just in your quiver they get dull and they are a bear the resharpen. In fact I was sharpening today. My rage broad heads sharpen up on leather very easy. I for the life of me can not get a good edge on a slick trick. I've got a bunch of them but can't get them sharp.......I am not a novice at sharpening, my forearm has no hair on it has proof. I'm not sure if slick trick uses a different angle on their blades or what, but they do not want to get razor sharp. I'm not a big mechanical fan but I did get a nice muley last year with a rage. Was not the best hit in the world but I new it was very sharp and would work, it did the job.

Christine and I used to fish ULM at night all the time. Lots of 15lb cats back then. must of been about 1980- 84 that we did most of our fishing there. Lots of skunks on shore too.

Here is my owl story. We had a house fire and ended up living in a rental house for a while. Our bed room was on the second floor with a little outside balcony. Every night these two great horned owls would hoot all night long from the roof. It was great for a while, but with being on call every night, and 3 small children I was getting tired of sleepless nights. One night for who knows what reason I tell Christine, watch this I'm gonna mess with these owls a little bit. I step out onto the balcony in the moonless night and make a few mouse squeaks. I had no sooner got the sound out when WACK right in the side of my head. One of the owls had flown down and hit me in the head. Christine was asking did that really happen? Another one of those times when she was asking herself, What am I doing with this dumb **s.

It's a tough deal for both sides. If G&F let this go and it became public knowledge then 1/2 the people would be on here stating that G&F does not punish their own. It was a no win situation. The commissioner did the right thing by reporting his mistake. Most people would have said no harm no foul.

I've met him a couple times, He has given me some advice that changed the way I look for game. I imagine that if I was ever going to hire a guide it would be Duwane.

how do you get the "new" smell out of your ground blind
runningbird replied to kennyazman's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
where are you hunting with it? if at a water hole, dunk it in the pond. if an area where there are cattle wipe it down with cow pies. or just spread dirt on it and hose it off. if your in the desert creasote bushes have a strong smell and keep the bugs away. be creative. -

Houndsmen/Anyone need help or advice ASAP please
runningbird replied to raventechniq's topic in The Campfire
I love my black and tan hound, but if I don't keep her tied up it's nothing but trouble. So she stays tied until it's time to work or play. -
My back up was an old PSE, set at 90 lbs, I think the let off is 55 %. it used to be my number one bow. I have no idea how I ever drew those old high poundage bows. One of my sons shoots it on occasion now. Last Javalina season we ran up a very steep hill for 20 min. ran right into the pigs. He was to tired to pull that bow back. I had it on video it always good for a laugh around here.
