    Kids Bow

I made my grandson a PVC recurve. It shoots fine for the little ones. There is so much good to be learned by shooting a long/recurve bow instinctively.

    Shooting with your jacket on

I would get a leather armgard that you can put on tight. Also open your stance a bit.

    calling in the rut

I agree on the confusing web site. I see one coues call and it is simply called, Coues deer hands free. Is this the one you guys are using? or is there one called grunt model? Thanks Mark

    dermestes beetles for skull cleaning

I bought some, then went to retrieve a javelina head I had put out in a tree 6 months before. The javelina head was filled with the same beetles I had just paid for. anyway i put the new and old in a 10gallon bucket with some compost and have had beetles ever since. Real easy to care for just keep the bucket in a cool spot in the summer or at least out of the sunlight. sometimes you'll think the hava all died, but if you put a piece of dried meat in the bucket in a week or so it will be gone.
  9. great buck and great story! Nothing like doing it yourself. Don't forget to post a picture for us when you get your trophy back.

Treating a dog for a rattlesnake bite?

we have had dogs bit by snakes and stung by scorpions, their heads looks the same. swelled up for a week or so. Benadryl helps , if the swelling gets to be too much their airway can be compromised.

    What would you do???

I hunt alone 95% of the time. I hunt much better when alone, up and out earlier and to bed earlier. I do often get lonely and miss my family, I try and embrace those feelings and remember them. I also take a note pad because sometimes when your alone and your thought are clear you really realize what matters and want to remember it. When I do hunt with my family I spend most of my time making sure they have a good hunt, so in that respect my hunt suffers. If you kill something, well you have your work cut out for you. But then again it's your hunt and hard work is always part of it.

    What a toad.

My first nice buck, perfect shot, and the arrow ended up in the oppisite shoulder. I was so excited I just forgot to take the arrow out for the pictures. On shot placement ? who knows what happenend. Maybe he it was planned or maybe the buck turned has he was releasing. At any rate, thats a real nice buck and horse. great picture!

    New to hounds

hey this is Mark I think you bought the puppy we called Cinch. Follow some of the advice you see on the youtube stuff. But I would not get to serious with him till he is a over 6 mo. Sometimes they get a little intimidated by the other dogs. If you can keep him on a lead while the other dogs are on a trail it can help. And if you see them/hear them tree a lion then let him go. I think that experience will do the most. Just let his natural instints take over. He's got good blood in him. Post a picture of him if you get a chance. and call me if you you have any questions. Mark

    Hunter numbers on the rise!

Got this info off another site. For the first time in nearly 20 years hunter numbers are up in the just released 5-year USFWS hunter survey. In fact, hunter numbers are up 9%! Also, bowhunter numbers are climbing nicely -- up from 3,000,000 in 2000 to 4.5 million now. They've accelerated very rapidly the past 5 years. Also, Federal Excise Taxes on firearms, bullets, bows, certain accessories and arrows were $555 million in 2012 this is $70 million higher then ever on record.

    Rattling

I have rattled in a couple. I've also made the mistake of not being ready or giving it enough time. So if you do try it remember they may come at a full fun and suddenly be right on top of you.
