  1. I agree with the hurting the guides.  This could be one of the unsaid motives.   If I can go awhile without running into 30 guides/helpers chasing and keeping an eye on one elk, I would be thrilled.

  2.

Did anyone else receive an email from the AZ deer association?  It is claiming the AZGFD commissioners want to do away with the auction tags.

The links provided only give one side.  Also the AZ deer association repeatedly refers to sticking to the north american model.  Which they previously stated was outdated, when they were part of a group that wanted to take over the auction tags.
I am unable to find any relevant information on this topic.
So wondering if anyone else has info.

The Arizona Deer Association recently presented the Arizona Game and Fish Commission and Department with a letter stating our position and concerns with potential changes being considered within the Special Big Game Tag program. We want to thank those who took the time to compose and send an email to the Commissioners in our last email request.

HOWL for wildlife has now picked up this cause and makes it simple, quick and easy to make your comment known.

HowlforWildlife.org has worked with several Wildlife Conservation Organizations to put together a “Howl” to get our voices heard.

It only takes a few minutes and is of vital importance if we want to show the Commission that this is not just a few individuals that have concerns with reducing revenues for wildlife conservation.

Should the Commission do away with the wildly successful live auction model we currently have for these Special Big Game Tags, our wildlife will truly suffer. This program generates millions of dollars annually for our wildlife.

Please let your voice be heard and let our Commissioners know we want to keep the program we already have in place. Time is of the essence.

  3. I watched one of my hounds get bit on the lower lip. From 75 yards.  He had a hold of her lip for about 10 sec. before she got it off.  She ran down the mountain , then a sand wash and 2 miles back home.  I cleaned it out and gave her some augmentin.  She was in a lot of pain for about 4 hours.  The next day she was fine.  What I understand is that its not so much the venom but that their mouth is filthy.  So infection is the main concern.

  4. I have those chains for my dodge/cummins and my cherokee.  But I bought them in or around 2001 and they were like $125-$140 back then.  Compare to other good brand chains which were in the $80 range.

I like them but not for $600.

  5. I took all three of my children with me on almost every hunt for 10 years.  It was fun for all of us.  You'll have many years to hunt alone, and it will happen soon.

My favorite hunt was a elk hunt.  we were hiding and calling in a group of small pines.  A nice bull was coming in.  at about 50 yards my boys started making Vroom Vroom sounds. I looked down and they were racing pine cones.

Since you're new, you will still learn a lot with the kids hunting with you.

  6. That's a beautiful buck!

I don't think the response is too bad, but a little long.

I only posted one picture of archery bucks I've taken.  I took it down soon after.  I only put it up because I was sick of the" you should have let it grow" comments. They were directed at another buck.

Just saying I've seen much  more negative responses than this one.  which really is not too bad at all.

    Again real pretty buck.

  7. tons of snow still in northern Utah.  they just announced that the will start clearing 2 passes that are still packed.  strawberry reservoir is clear, water temp 42.

tons of strong run off everywhere I've been.  Never seen so much water.  a lot of small streams look more like long lakes.

driving by Powel was really interesting.  A huge difference from just a couple months ago.  Doesn't look so horrible anymore.  But of course still under 35%.

  8. While tearing down a fireplace and chimney, I found lots of old news papers from the late 30's and up to 1941. It was common to use the paper for insulation.  Best article I saw was titled "Television could be the next big thing" .  Of course the adds for stores and prices really interested my Children.

We had two houses near south mountain that were built between 1937 and 1943.  the cement block was made on site.  If you've ever been to Fat man Pass on south mountain. That was my next door neighbor.  of course today we would call it morbidly obese persons pass.

Still have a lot of those papers.

  9. Regarding teachers with guns.  This came up recently at a meeting I attended.  The concern is, when LEO enters, has this video shows they are ready to shoot.  A teacher even though trained may be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  It's very difficult to make a split second decision when going in to save children and an armed plain clothes person steps out armed.  The killer could step out and yell I'm a teacher,, then shoot them in the back has they go by.

My wife and I newly married moved to Flagstaff in 83, I was working for Anderson cabinet shop full time while attending NAU!

A local that was working with me there asked me why I always had a boat hooked up and where I was going!

I told him we were fishing Lake Mary every day after work!

He looked at me and politely stated,”There are no dam fish in Lake Mary!”

    Pike and Walleye!!!

    😂😂😂

Christine and I would have just missed you!  We usually spent the night catching catfish. Then in the morning headed back after stopping at the general store for some breakfast and a picture of our catch.

Great to see lake Mary full.

  11. I have a good friend in CA,  Roy Brill.  I met him in 1988 archery hunting in Kaibab.  He grew up in Africa hunting with the natives.  his Parents were missionaries.  Roy is 91 now, still archery hunts.  Roy also takes his Harley out for a 35 mile ride 2 times a week.

Roy has the best attitude about life and living to the fullest I have every seen.  He has had some very hard things in his time.  He just keeps going.

  12. yes, please post some pictures and tell us about your trip.  In 2000 I took my 3 children and spent 2 months in AK.  We loved it, my middle son hooked and landed a king in the first 10 min of fishing.  We caught and sent home a ton of salmon, it was pretty cheap back then.  But we honestly enjoyed the inland areas more than the coast.  Seemed like we had hundreds of square miles to ourselves.

  13. I've found muleys near the road many times archery hunting.  One year on the north rim I had already killed my buck and took my daughter who was 5 out.  We found a giant, over 185 just rubbed his velvet off.  He was within 5 yards of the road.  we were 30 yards from him for 15 min.

Every time a truck came by he would lay his head down.  I think 5 trucks or quads came by road hunting and none of them saw him  or us.  Pretty funny.
