    Unit 23 whitetail tag

There are no wounds here. A good rule of thumb is to start looking anywhere in the unit above 4000ft. The areas you have already mentioned will work.

Deduction for velvet on a coues???

The Bowhunting in Arizona record book used to deduct 5% but has since changed to 2 1/2%. Since I am a Bowhunting in Arizona committee member and measure for both record books hopefully this will enough verification on the matter.

Anywhere north of the F.S. 504 if a strong winter comes which is doubtful.

    jay gates crossing the border

Ernesto C., our hunt was not as formal as most of the high dollar hunts. We hunted on a ranch east of Hermasillo and guided ourselves. We did go thru a Mexican Outfitter which is obviously required but we did not have anyone meet us at the border. We went thru the border at Naco. The U.S. side was just as bad as the Mexican side. When we came back thru it was much quicker.

    jay gates crossing the border

I have been to Mexico a couple of years ago and all I can say is that it is an EXPERIENCE getting across the border with guns and ammo. Plan not getting in a hurry or you are just going to piss someone off. It took us about 4 hours to go 100 yards. I found the border problems not really being so much of a problem except for the time element but the Mexican Federal Military roadblocks further down in Mexico were another story. Most of the military people were very young dressed in brand new G.I. Joe uniforms carrying brand new AK-47 assult rifles. Not one of them could speak English which in reality they shouldn't be required to since we were in their country. But it can get a little scary.

    New way of hunting discovered!!!!

Be careful, you might get your wish with the Wilderness idea then it will be to late. I wish you could have reported them for driving offroad. These antics give hunting and quads a bad rap.

Deduction for velvet on a coues???

The Arizona archery record book (Bowhunting in Arizona) deducts 2 1/2% if you choose to keep the velvet on. P&Y has a separate velvet catagory.
  19. Here are some pictures of a nice Coues deer buck where supposely there are no deer. The picture was taken about 11:30 A.M. I am trying to figure out how to post the pictures. I think you will enjoy them. Stay tuned. I guess I figured it out. Now to find out how to post them without having to click on the address. http://members.cox.net/csalyer/deer%20003.jpg http://members.cox.net/csalyer/deer%20004.jpg http://members.cox.net/csalyer/deer%20005.jpg

    Record Book Withdrawals

.270 and Wetmule, I have read your posts and a lot of what you have said is absolutely true. The record books (all of them) are only as good as the information that is provided. As long as human beings are involved there are going to be mistakes, egos, jealously, you name it. I guess I am kind of naive. I would like to think that all the records with their information are indeed correct and all of the animals were harvested legally. I am sure some of them are not but that will not change my belief in the record books. .270, if you did indeed get the short end of the stick with regard to the bear, why don't you have it looked at again? Maybe the measurer had it in for you. Who knows, but I would think it would be worthwhile looking in to it. One thing that really bothers me though is a hunter who doesn't care about the record books but will use in the same sentance "I saw a 350 bull". How can you differientiate between the two? I am a measurer for both the "Bowhunting in Arizona" and "Pope & Young" record books and am an avid believer in both programs. It costs lots of money to run the programs, producing the record books, putting on banquets, holding measurer seminars, providing trophy plaques and various other items. Both programs are non-profit and operate on the sales of the books and entry fees. The record books also provide a lot of valuable information besides the animal records. This is my own personal opinion. Good luck on everybody's hunts.

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

Yes, very sad indeed. I don't go ANYWHERE without a firearm close by. But never the less, prayers go out to this man's family.

    Nice Coues Deer buck

Not quite as big as was thought. Would have scored in high 80's or low 90's if the right side was not messed up. Still a nice buck though.

    Nice Coues Deer buck

Well the big buck that I posted pictures of at the beginning of this topic is nowhere to be found but my friend did get his brother, a mid 90in. buck. I will post pictures of him as soon as I get them. Hopefully this weekend I will be as lucky.
