Younghunter, I am sure you already know that there are deer on that mountain from one end to the other. No one spot is really any better than the other, the problem is will you find to many other hunters where you actually hunt.

    Unit 22 elk

DBArcher, your friends tag is for 22 South, I have that tag also. I hope your friend realizes that his hunt is south of Hwy 260 east of Payson and south of the line between the Verde River and Payson following the East Verde and the F.S. 406. His best bet is to really get out and hit the woods and scout.

    Legal in AZ????????

I know I wont loose any sleep at night if I am hunting over salt or out of a tree stand.

Help needed with a "problem" tag!

Well that is a little bit of a problem. I have never been up there so I am no help. Like always, check the G&F unit hunt report and above all try to find out the Game Warden of the area. You might also want to post on Monster Mulie's if you haven't already. Good luck.

    unit 31

Mike, all of the guides above are good but you really don't need one. Do some scouting especially on the west side of the unit out of Aravaipa Canyon. Try to get as close to the reservation as possible. Good luck.

    More Trouble Brewing

I think the 7-UP ranch and the Game and Fish have already locked horns quite a few years ago when the rancher poached a bunch of elk. I don't remember what the final result of this was though.

    Left-over Tags

I picked up a left over tag a couple of years ago in 30A and there were no more left over tags then than there are now. 30B is not a popular unit but there are a few Coues in the Dragoons. Any Coues hunt is better than no Coues hunt. Arizona Griz.

    Residents vs. Non-Residents

I too like to try to get away from everybody else, I guess that is why I hunt alone. I have lived here 49 years (native) and hunted at least 35 of them, but I am new to the hand language sign "I am here and you are not". How does it go. If some hunters had accidently walked in on my position I personally would wave them on it and let them know where I was hunting so they wouldn't accidently blunder in to me later. I guess with this new hand language thing the hunters walk away and possibly walk back in on where you were going to hunt. I guess I am a little slow with this Arizona philosophy, maybe I will catch on in my next 50 years. Arizona Griz.

    Residents vs. Non-Residents

I would give NR's help within reason and would hope they would do the same for me. Arizona Griz.

    Is it just me?

Mike, everything you said is basically correct, but if someone is new to Coues hunting or new to an area I don't mind giving a little bit of information to get them started. Then if the person wants a little bit more then they can PM me. I am sure not going to give out my honey holes that I worked for years in finding. I will not give any information to someone who is not registered. I even suggested to Amanda to make it a requirement to be registered before someone could post. You just never know who you are talking to. I am also not going to tell someone that there are no deer in a particular unit when everybody knows that if there are deer tags alloted then there are deer. People will get the impression that you are a wise a$$. Arizona Griz.

    Hot Spots in Unit 36B

Treestandman is pulling your leg , look up the unit on the Arizona Game and Fish website. You will get some good information. Also pick up Duwane Adam's book like Pigman said. Arizona Griz.

    Nov. unit 33

Peppersauce is nice but gets a lot of traffic from hikers from Oracle once you get up on Oracle Ridge. Arizona Griz.

    Unit 30A

Forgot to log in for the above post. The rest of the area around the Dos Caabezas is locked up. Arizona Griz.

    !!!!!!!RESULTS ARE OUT!!!!

Amanda, there is usually just a few deer tags left over. I was able to get one a couple of years ago. I drew a November 36A Coues tag and a 22 early archery bull elk tag. Arizona Griz.

    Arizona looses court case!

This is probably the best "band-aid" solution for this year. At least it won't effect the residents. I am sure there will be a different solution next year. Arizona Griz.

Anyone notice the new law in AZ?

Back in the late 80's or early 90's I had two rifle deer tags three different times. Those were the days. That will never happen again.

    Grat Hunting dog

Definitely puts a smile on your face.

Anyone notice the new law in AZ?

Ernesto got it right. You can hunt all the seasons until you kill. One deer per year.
  19. Arizona Griz

What units did you all put in for?

I put in for 36A deer, 22 archery elk, 4B archery antelope, 39 sheep, House Rock for buffalo. We will just have to wait and see. Arizona Griz.

    WHATS BEST IN 33

You might want to try the northern areas around the fire (Oracle Ridge, Peppersauce Canyon. Rice Peak, etc.). It might turn out to be a good area. Arizona Griz.
  21. Arizona Griz

    Burn area might be good

I hunted in the Gap back in the 80's and saw a lot of deer. I am sure with the new growth of grass after the fire it should turn into a prime area. Arizona Griz.

    Burn area might be good

I haven't been up in the Gap in quite a few years. I heard the road at the bottom was closed again. Arizona Griz.

Anyone notice the new law in AZ?

At least the G&F is working in the right direction. Maybe people will call, maybe not but something is better than nothing. Arizona Griz.

    Aluminums or Carbons

GMM, my bow is a Darton Lightning set at 76 lbs. I would actually shoot the bow at a heavier weight but it is maxed out. I have used 2312's (380gr.) out of it for 3D shoots and have hit 329ft./sec. As you can see, I will stick to the aluminums.

    Aluminums or Carbons

I have never had any desire to change to carbons. I personally use X7's 2413 for hunting and am able to get about 305 ft./sec. from my 435 gr. arrow. I get this performance from a bow that is 10 years old. I use 4in. vanes and put the maximum amount of offset I can with my straight fletching jig. I really see no reason to change. Most of my friends have though. Arizona Griz.
