    caliber ?

Until I can get some money together to buy a 7MM Ultra Mag I will use my trusty old .270. I think it is about 30 years young now. Arizona Griz.

    Units 27,28,29,30a

I hunted 30A a few years ago. There is not a lot of accessuble country to hunt. I hunted on the New Mexico border and there were a lot of hunters. Arizona Griz.

    Ebay Toad

Bret, very nice deer indeed, as to the cost, well, I can use my money on something a little more important.

If you look closely there are actually 5 bucks in the picture.

    Typical or Nontypical

I would shoot the buck that had the most character. Arizona Griz.

    Flushing -vs- Glassing

All of my deer hunting (Coues or Mule deer) was done by pushing the brush and jump shooting. I got my share of animals but as time went by and I got older I found, as most people have, that glassing was a better option. At least it doesn't take the wear and tear on the body. Arizona Griz.

    Using Decoys in Arizona

I guess it would work. I have used antelope decoys with some success. Arizona Griz.

    December Hunts

I think you guys are missing the picture here. The quantity of tags and the length of the season is directly tied into the amoount of deer the Game and Fish want to have harvested. Do you really think that by charging more money for a longer hunt will increase your chaces of getting a tag. Last night someone pruchased a Coues deer tag for $120,000. The only way there is going to be an increase in the odds of getting drawn for a deer hunt is using the point system (which I am not really crazy about) and having the population increase so the quantity of tags can be increased. This state and most of the southwest has been in a droght for as long as I can remember. It was just a few years ago that there were 90,000 plus tags issued and look today, we are down into the 40,000 area. I'll put it a little simplier. We are dang lucky to have 3 actual rifle deer season allowing the hunter to choose and pick his own poison with regard to chance of getting drawn. If I were you I would pray more for rain than how the Game and Fish can charge more money for lengthened hunts. Arizona Griz.
  10. The Mule deer tags went for $124,000 and $16,000 respectively, and the Coues went for around $120.000 plus. Arizona Griz.

    Photo Viewing Problem?

There are times when I am looking at a picture on my home computer or my work computer and the small red X comes up. I right click on it and click on the "Show Picture" and nothing happens. I don't know what causes this or how it can be fixed, I just miss out on seeing the picture. The red X picture doesn't come up that often though. Arizona Griz.

    Deer Sightings

I would think 20 deer in a day would be above average. I hunted 36A this past November and saw 70 deer in 7 days, but only one was a buck. Arizona Griz.

    PY

GMM, I couldn't agree with you more BUT if hunters choose to take hunting to the next level specifications, rules and regulations need to be followed. I am a committee member to a record book program and If there were hunters that did not care about the above then there would be no record book programs for hunters, even non-hunters to read and learn from. Heck maybe there wouldn't even be forum sites like this one. Everyone would be talking about generalities. I am not raining on your parade but there is room in the hunting world for specific rules and regulations as well as the good old fashion value of hunting.

    PY

I guess it was just a matter of time before P&Y would give in to the archery industry. Personally I shoot a 60% let off bow and find it difficult to shoot a bow with a let off above 65%. Arizona Griz.

    Unit 21

In addition to the areas Red Rabbit mentioned anywhere along the Verde Rim from Camp Verde to Pine Mountain. There also are some spots in the middle of the unit but you really need to check them out yourself, ie. Table Mesa Rd., Agua Fria River shed, east of Black Canyon City, Dugas Road, etc. Good luck. CouesDeer Salt Lick

As stated in the above posts baiting is illegal in Arizona. The state does not recognize salting as baiting probably because they haven't taken the time to look into it. In regard to putting out salt now in hopes that it will be found during the late hunt, I personally don't think it will work, but if you could find a well used trail or waterhole it sure wouldn't hurt. 25. I would like to tell you that my friends and I all shot our bucks this past weekend but that wouldn't be true. We hunted the south end of the Sierrita Mountains and did see a lot of does and fawns. I can only conclude that most of the bucks are bedding very early and staying bedded most of the day. With the full moon out almost all night and the warm temperatures made it very hard to find any bucks (we only saw one spike). There also was a lot of hunters, which in this case, probably made it better with getting the deer to move around, but the wise old bucks still held their ground and remained very seclusive. I will be heading out this Thursday morning to give it a go again. Good luck to everyone. Arizona Griz.
