So the plan for the night is to pull my buddies blind out and sit my blind till dark as it's where the guys came across the mtn lion during the archery elk hunt.

Called and had a group skirt the water no shot. Gave it a few and called again and birds on there way back . I took the first bird in to water . All done ! Not the Tom from before but a good Jake. Lots of birds this year .

Just hit a bird and nothing but a few feathers. Good Tom with a beard I could see. Got back to my blind and called and another dozen went by but didn't come in to water. There here it's just a matter of time..

Well the moo cows pushed the turkey out to 70 plus . I was hoping they would make a loop around the water and be right in front of me but nope . They made the far side and a quad was coming . Two shots later the birds were split up and going two different directions. Nice old guy in his mid 70's . Missed twice so we will see what comes in

Had some early company at 30 yds this morning

Going to sit water . I did see a flock today when I was checking spots but another guy and his wife were gonna set up there . I had my phone out and forgot to turn on the camera to record.

My trip started OK till I got the sxs out yesterday to check some spots and I think the fuel pump went out. Luckily I got it back to camp . So I'm on plan b. Luckily my buddy is working up here and was able to pick his sxs. Already spotted a flock this morning

I've got the place to myself for a day! Love the quiet!!!

Rifle ,pistol, shotgun, one of each then it's all about want one . Beautiful guns for sure the ruger #1 's are.

Congratulations!!! Now you can rest those feet ,drink a beer and take a nap. Going to be good eating there.

No joke !! The guy on the other side of the cattle gate hit 3 elk and nada. Even had a crossbow permit. My buddies were trying to help him recover one when they ran across the lion kill elk . As for ammo I'm good ill just load some more.

Yep nothing wrong with a decent rack . Prevents rack sag better known as tube sock titties! We're born to chase big racks!

Definitely give it a try with the processor! They will tell you if it's still good. Usually you will loose some depending on where the body heat gets trapped.

If they didn't see you they must have winded you guys. Possibly thermals changed and gave you away? They've been getting pressed and are going to move on anything that doesn't seem quite right. Keep after it.

Home depot has rubber weather stripping that works great for this. Definitely stopped the rattling.

I haven't hunted that unit but I'm in to help with what ever I can . I'll have to check the regulations and see if my sxs is good for travel and recovery. I'll send u a pm.

It was just a hour or so at sun up and then at dark . There was a bull going to town just up from camp. He would start at dark and go till I crashed 1030/11 each night last week when I was up in 6a.

Left the house Tues after work and headed up to our spot in 6a . My buddy Chuck had helped my last year with my dad and his buddies muzzleloader hunt . So it was my turn to repay the favor. Pulled in to what looked like a trailer park at camp . There was already 7 trailers at camp as I pulled in. Did some scouting and set stands. Friday night was a busy night as we got the call 2 6x6 elk were hit. One went thru the water and we were looking for blood and didn't find any so we went to check on the other bull as there was blood. The pool of blood looked promising but we backed out and went back in the morning . The 6 of us lost blood and grid searched for a few miles and didn't turn up anything. So we went to look for the other elk . No blood so just grid searched and turned up just elk on there feet and I found a good 5x5 dead head. So they were back at it Saturday . One 5x5 down and recovered in the morning then another that night made for a busy day. Sunday was just a few elk at water and Gonzo passed on a spike it's his first hunt. Come Monday we were loaded to go home as it's my 25 year anniversary and my wife said we're not staying. We'll right before we were ready to go the call came in Chuck had a bull down . How could I leave now . So off we went and we recovered his bull then left . Got some rain coming down the 87 right before the 260. Got home and unloaded the trailer and then got word Gonzo had a spike down . So the guys filled there tags. Just two more tags in camp Martin and his daughter have cow tags . So the hunt continues. I don't have all the pictures just yet as signal is spotty.

Turkey's are great for me it's the only tag I drew ! I'll be back up in 6a in a week and a half. Good luck and keep at it .

So after trying to help another hunter find his elk the guys came across a lion kill and it's real fresh . Chuck and Gonzo made a blind and we're going to see what happens. Chuck usually brings a ar15 for coyote. This could get interesting!

The smoke was bad from about pine up to just about the 147 rd. That was last week Thursday morning when I was heading back up . I'm sure it depends on the wind. I did see a nice 6x6 and another bull feeding on the grass along the road . It was probably around 5 am when I went by .

My buddies are all in 6a and had the same issues. Elk bugle early then nothing till dark. Lots of deer and turkey. They got it done one after another sitting water . Good luck and enjoy your time with your family.

I did glass up a huge 330 class bull opening day right at first light. Last year my buddy Chuck was sitting with Aaron my dad's buddy and had a big 7x7 come in . There definitely out there.
