Overlanded Toyota Tacoma - PRICE LOWERED $29,500 OBO
Crazymonkey replied to OSU Cowboy's topic in Classified Ads
The new guy at work just spent 98k on a new Denali diesel. How do you make the payment for that ? I make twice what he makes and wouldn't get myself into a truck payment as high as my house payment. When I looked in 2020 my truck was 83k new with out all the extra the truck I bought has.I said nope to that and bought the 2018 for 52k .Even with a big down over 10 k my payments are 600 plus a month. -
6mm AR ar15 upper build or 6mm ARC
Crazymonkey replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
On paper the 6mm ar seems to get you more .More case capacity and more speed and energy. They also make a Ackley version that takes the neck to 40 degrees and increases case capacity just a touch more .The 6mm ar seems easy enough to make brass its just a neck down . -

I had bought a muzzy in 2014 and had no real inspiration to start hunting with it .That year I had decided the time to put in for archery kibab was upon me and with 11 points. going into the draw I figured I'd get a tag.My buddy talked me into the elk muzzy draw .I had no plans to hunt.I was lucky and drew bolth tags .I hit a deer that year and we never found it.I had some time with the muzzy and was good to 150 and on opening day scored.Muzzys are different and take some time .I now have 5 Muzzys scoped and iron sights .

Costco sucks for tires. Its always busy and Damm near impossible to get any rotation or service done .They wouldn't cover the warranty on the tires they sold.I had bought 4 and they didn't make the mileage .Not even 24000 miles and they only covered 2 and would not give me the warranty for the other 2.Then when I tried to get a nail removed they gave me a it will be 2 weeks before we can get you in .And if that wasn't bad enough they scratched the crap outa one rim .Discount may not be perfect but I was outa there in 30 minutes for the tire fix at no cost and no appt.

California over father's day was $7.89 for diesel where I was hunting. It's sad when coming home and almost $6 bucks here sounded much cheaper.

School Me on Blackhorn Powder? Is it worth it?
Crazymonkey replied to Heat's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
The wolf is a good under rated gun. I shot my 6x5 bull elk with one .At 90 yds with 150 gr of pyrodex and a 338 Powerbelt platnium. He didn't take one step .It dumped him in his tracks. -
School Me on Blackhorn Powder? Is it worth it?
Crazymonkey replied to Heat's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Blackhorn is the way to go.Its non corrosive so you can use standard gun cleaners. It uses less powder to get the same results as most pellets. You may need to see if your breach plug will work with blackhorn. The big advantage is being able to weigh the powder charge and get a consistent load and you can tailor it to your gun.Don't run by the marks for volume as they are known to be off and inconsistent.Blackhorn has a conversion chart that will tell you what you need by weight or volume to make a standard 100 gr charge .You are correct on not having to clean between shots it tends to shoot cleaner.I just wish I could run it in all my muzzleloaders some won't shoot it due to the breach plugs. -
Case stuck in chamber- Help!!
Crazymonkey replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
That might do it .I ran a jp adjustable on mine and per there instructions come out 4 turns and then shoot 1 round then out 1 turn at a time till it stays open.I've seen some blocks drilled off location also .They were made by Odin works .Still have them at home .I had a Smith assemble the upper on my gun only to have to take it apart and fix it .Hopefully your on the right track and it works. Also I've seen the gas tubes be outa alignment its not common usually its in the gas block or undersized bleed hole in the barrel. -
After picking up my processed california hog from the processors the wife had me go with her to run errands .We were in line at CVS for some prescription pick up.The wife starts to crack up and says read the plate on the car in front of us and it was. Hugahog !! Finally a plate that fits as the driver and passenger were just a tad on the super fat side.Usually they have princess plates or some kinda sh*t.This was the first one I've seen being honest.

Case stuck in chamber- Help!!
Crazymonkey replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If your almost all the way opened you could have the block off alignment just a little and it will under gas the thing. Also check the diamater of the gas bleed hole in the barrel there have been some that are undersized .Ar15 are standard pattern and you can look up the diameter.Another thing to look at is your buffer weight .To heavy and it really takes a lot to get it to cycle to light and you beat up your gun cycles to hard and fast .Get it right and they are smooth and reliable. -
Case stuck in chamber- Help!!
Crazymonkey replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
One shot then out a turn on the gas block then repeat till it locks then add 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it locks to insure it locks with various charges reliably. -
The big thing with shooting a 50 cal muzzleloader out to 300 or more is the energy that's left. The gun drops fast once you get to the 200 yard mark and then there is your bullet .Look at what you need for volocity for it to expand correctly. It does no good to shoot far if your gun won't have the energy or the expansion to do the job. Most muzzleloaders that shoot to 300 or more are 45 cal.Hornady has test results on there site and at 250yds they were 1389 volocity and 1070 energy on there test gun with a +3 inch at 100 zero and 11 inch drop at 250 . With a 150 gr powder charge .At 300 your going to loose more energy and speed .With the blackhorn if you can weigh your charges out the tubes are always wrong for volume. It will atleast make your shots more consistent.

We do a lot of hunting up there and I've seen the same thing with the elk and antalope .I also saw some deer mixed in with them .Thought it was crazy to see them all together. My buddies brother works up there a lot and ran across three lions a few years back walking across the 83 road.Good luck on your hunt
