ONLY 20 MIN FROM THE HOUSE

Great pics thanks for sharing. Thats one thing I like about here around Tucson, the deer are around. A couple weeks ago my family and I were leaving our house just off of broadway and greasewood when a mulie doe ran across greasewood. I've seen deer around there before and going west up the hill on ajo also.

    AZ Bowhunting Partner

Good luck to ya steelhead, I'm kinda in the same boat as you there. I've got to move back to valley after being in tucson for the last 10 yrs or so. I got back into hunting a few years ago and took a mulie down in 34a in 07, but came up short last year. Right now I'm looking into hunting more towards the rim. When driving down from payson or globe I always catch myself checking out the country wondering when I'd be able to get into it. Looks like this is going to be the start of it. I can't wait to get into some backcountry out there, its going to be exciting and fun. heres to goodtimes... elecshoc

    Original hunt

There are stories from the navajo about the running down of deer. There are still remnents of wood fences were these chases were done. It would seem like it would be very similar to the movie Apcolypto, where the hunters ran down the animal in the first scene. The fences I've seen where tall, like 7 to 8 feet high and it seemed like they were much taller than that with the amount of logs laying around the area. When I first noticed it I asked why would someone make a corral as tall as that? Thats when i was told of the stories.

    need help with weight.

I would go with the 400's. The 340's would be a little stiff at 65#s with a 100 grn point. I'm shooting 28.5" at 72# 340's with 125 grn point.

    Windage issues

can you post your setup w/ draw length, weight and arrow setup... it could be a few things going on with your rig... I would first make sure your arrows are the right arrows for your setup... once you make sure its correct then you can start tuning your bow... first thing in tuning your bow is making sure that your form is good...(no torquing or canting the bow)... there are some great suggestions that were proposed earlier in the thread... it sounds like you may have your center shot just slightly off... the method suggested earlier by Tines is the best way to get your rig shooting straight (imo)... try looking for the easton setup manuel, it has some great info on bare shaft tuning and walkback tuning, which are the two methods that are used to get rigs shooting straight... if you need to send me your e-mail address and I can send you the manual... good luck and let us know how it worked out...
  10. heres the article... sounds like this was a different tag or the one from last year, since the amount is different... $135,000 elk ....

    Accuracy with broadheads

I personally do bareshaft test before I do walkback tuning. Bareshaft testing is good to get your arrows shooting good for your bow. It will let you know if you have a high/low nock. It will also let you know it your arrows are the correct spine for your setup. After that a walkback tune will get your center shot correct. Once this is done your arrows should be coming out of you bow good. Then once this is done you can try broadhead tuning to get your field points and broad heads to shoot the same. Usually once I get a good bareshaft then a walkback tune on my bow then my broadheads and fields points come together pretty well. Also another thing to do is to spin test your arrows. You can do this by using a arrow spin tester or I just put the tip of the arrow with a broadheat on the tip of my index finger and spin. (Be Careful) If you feel a wobble in your arrow then the inserts aren't square. You have to think of your broadheads like fletching in the front of your arrow. If the broadhead is not square then it will steer your arrow wrong. Its a lot of work but once it done you'll have full confidence in your setup. The reasoning behind getting your field points to hit with your broadheads it to make sure your bow is working as efficiently as possible. good luck to you and if you have any questions feel free to ask and you can pm also...

    first buck!!!

I've been a member of this forum for a little while now. I don't take part in discussions and use this forum a great source of info. Maybe after some time and more experience I could contribute some useful info here. I would like to thank everyone here for the info and to say that without it my first buck would not have happened. This is me with my father after the fact. I would liked to have taken it in the field but time and dead batteries in the camera forced me to wait until we got it home. thanks again for your help. I was in 34A when we crossed paths. thanks again everyone.
