Where did you order from?Brian eBayThanks Ordered it Monday Arrived yesterday. Looks nice. Have it mounted. Will Shoot it tomorrow. I'm still trying to decide which scope to get. I do very little rifle hunting but I would like a decent set up on my new 6.5 creedmoor.Brian This is what I've got on my creedmoor. Awesome scope! Of course Brian you probably already know I have a few all on Creedmoors. These scopes ffp will take you out to 1700 yards and the sfp scopes even further. The clarity is edge to edge crisp. Very light weight, perfect tracking, and the company does in house custom upgrades like if you would like a turret cap on the windage they can do that for you. They will even change the reticle if you would like. before you buy they do have a new reticle the moa-h. Look up this scope and look at the new reticle better for windage holds. Changing Savage Barrel
willhunt4coues replied to buffhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
That is fine the way you are doing it if you are getting a consistent reading. There are many ways of doing it. Just the hornady lock n load oal gauge is the simplest to use. You will get a consistent reading from it. They don't cost much either. -
Changing Savage Barrel
willhunt4coues replied to buffhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Get the Hornady overall length guage and the required case for the caliber you need. This will help you measure the Ogive on your gun so you can prepare loads correctly. Once you do your initial load development the next step is fine tuning the load by adjusting seating depth. Without knowing what you Cartridge Base To Ogive (CBTO) is you will not be able to fine tune. Measuring the Cartridge Overall Length (COAL meaning from base to tip of bullet) you will not be consistent. You want to be able to measure CBTO so the consistency will be the same. The Ogive matters the Bullets tip does not. Just remember Consistency is the key to being able to produce tiny 1 hole groups and keeping the group very small, sub MOA at long distances. -
Changing Savage Barrel
willhunt4coues replied to buffhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Kinda true. But know this when you tighten the nut it will create MORE head space than normal because of the nut pulling on the barrel threads. It is simple but be safe and get a go AND nogo gauge. Get a barrel nut wrench and you will also need a barrel vise or action vise. The action vise works better IMO. -
I have tested some of the top names Nightforce, Valdada, Sightron, Vortex, Leupold. It depends on what you are looking for. For strength, dependability, and Lots of elevation I would say Nightforce/Valdada. For dependability, lots of elevation, and very little weight Sightron/Leupold. For warranty Vortex. Not to diss on vortex but I have owned 5 different lower end scopes HS, PST, Diamondback, crossfire, and man they all needed work only after a little use. Every scope has little flaws like its too heavy, edge clarity, not enough adjustments, ect. You have to pick the one that has all the features you want and don't want. I have owned all mentioned above. But the only scope that had a great balance (24oz weight, very great clarity, LOTS of elevation, Tracked .9998578% perfection (which was the best), great warranty,) was the Sightron SIII 6-24X50 scopes. I have both FFP and SFP. The FFP has 95 moa of elevation, and the SFP has 105 moa of elevation. These scope have some of the best tracking (if not the best) in the industry. Sightron claims to have the best tracking and from all the tests I have ran they do. The scopes do not come with a zero stop but for a hunting scope I do not need a zero stop. For PRS you probably would. that was the only flaw this scope had was not having a zero stop. You can find the FFP for around 850.00 some places. These again are all my experiences and recommendations. I do not work for any of these companies. When my friends call me and want to get a HUNTING scope I tell them to come shoot my gun to see the scope in action. After that they save themselves lots of money buying the sightron. When they actually mount the scope they fall in love. Maybe some will chime in to what I mean.

I have had a 2 different Hornady electro scale, RCBS 1010 balance, RCBS Chargemaster 1500 (I still have), GemPro 250, and a Sartorius Entris 323-1S (still have). I can tell you the hornadys, both RCBS, and even the gempro I do not trust, not when you have a Sartorius. The Sartorius will give you a TRUE weigh but at a price point that you will not like (850.00). I have now charged my way up that if I would have just bought the Sartorius it would have been the same price as buying all the other scales. The laboratory type scales like the Sartorius are all very accurate because of the weigh system Magnetic Force Restoration. Most of the cheaper scales are strain gauge. I throw my weights on the RCBS 1500 and then re-weigh on the Sartorius and can tell you the RCBS reads it correctly threw the charge but the Sartorius will read anywhere between -2.0 gn to +2.0 gn. So if you are into reloading to PERFECTION, and to creating a PERFECT load as I am, the Sartorius is the way to go. Very well worth the money. I have watched the other cheaper scales do some crazy thing like yours did with weighing the bullets. I am not saying these cheaper scales don't work but they will get you close. Just thought I would share a little of that info with you guys!!!

Shotgun patterning question
willhunt4coues replied to slopoke36's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I had patterned my shotgun looking for a good turkey load. I was using a xtra full choke and tried hornady, winchester, and heavy shot. At 30 yards the hornady and winchester were about a 30" circle which imo sucks. So I bought a Xtra Xtra full choke and it helped a little on the horn and win but only by about 5 inches. When I tried the Heavy shot I got an 8" circle with 90% shot in the circle at 30 yards and 12" circle with 90% shot in the circle at 40 yards. For turkey loads I understand patterning but for bird you could only do so much. This helped me know what my range I could shoot out too. -
Did you let them take the Creedmoor for a run?

Compact Rifle . . .Which one?
willhunt4coues replied to Flatlander's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I second the vote for Ruger American Predator in a 6.5 Creedmoor, Would be a great round for your wife. My nephew 10 years old and my son which was 8 at the time has taken this rifle out to 1000 yards. -

I will also provide the buyer with all the specs i have for this rifle like seating depth, powder info, throat info, headspace info, ect. This gun produces 2" groups at 750 yards. 2800 fps. This rifle is very precise and accurate. I am asking 2000.00 for everything above. Please see below for all other info. Does not come with scope or rings. Loads for 6.5 Creedmoor with Berger 140 gr VLDs
willhunt4coues replied to outdoor rush's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Cbto 2.190 (.020 jump) for 1 rifle with a load of 41.6. Lot #2 of powder takes 41.8. Cbto 2.170 (.035 jump) for 2nd rifle with a load of 41.4. All h4350 powder. 1st rifle has cci-br2 primers 2nd rifle has federal 210m. The first rifle is my savage I have for sale and the 2nd rifle Is my custom Shilen. Most guns will love 41.5 to 42.5 grains of h4350. Try to get her at 2800 fps and you should have a smoking gun. I shot another .20 inch 5 shot group at 300 today with my custom again. Find that special seating depth and anything at 2700, 2800, or 2900 should shoot lights out. -

thats surprising you can't find the primers. The brass is a little hard but the primers should be available. I will keep an eye out for you. -

Using old brass versus New brass for working up load
willhunt4coues replied to murfys69law's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Its done by adjusting the entire die (the main body). You will need a datum bushing to attach to your calipers to make sure you are adjusting to the right length. -
Custom Savage 6.5 Creedmoor "for sale"
willhunt4coues replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Classified Ads
The cheek rest is a karsten and yes you have to drill holes. These are about the best cheek rest you can have. I plan to do another shilen just like the one below but just have not decided on a caliber yet. May do 6.5x284 or may go all out and do a 338 lapua.- 12 replies

Using old brass versus New brass for working up load
willhunt4coues replied to murfys69law's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I always bump the shoulder .0015 to .0020. I have found this will give you the best accuracy and make it that all rounds will chamber. If you only neck size your case will sooner or later become to big and have to bump. -

We scouted for three weeks for gobblers and learned there was 3 hanging out with 1 hen on the same hill weekend after weekend. When opening day came only 2 gobblers remained. We tried but with no success to get them to come to us on Friday, Saturday, & Monday. On monday we finally called one all the way down to us about 500 yards from his roost only to have him work around us at 125 yards out. Where did they all go is all we could wonder. Knowing we needed to get to them we went in quietly with all our gear and got setup by 5:10 within 100 yards of their roost. At 5:20 or so I could see pretty well so I fired up the FoxPro with a fly down crackle. With a hen decoy and a chicken on a stick setup at 10 yards in front of me and my dad holding the other chicken on a stick behind me, we figured if this did not work nothing will. We let out a couple of yelps and a couple of gobbles. Within seconds we hear a gobble to our right and then another gobble to our left. 2 minutes later I have the gobbler from the right at less than 10 yards. Knowing he was not the one I wanted I waited to see if the other would appear and hope not to have wasted an opportunity at the first one. Next thing I know I see a big Tom pop out at 55 yards from behind a juniper, knowing 55 yards was too far for me I passed again. All he wanted was a look at what was making the noise and he went back behind the juniper. As soon as he did that I hear 2 gobble. Knowing that now there was 3 on the hill the other one has to peek and I hoped he would be closer. I kept them interested with the excited hen that the other could not resist. When he peeked his head out at 45 yards I knew I could get a good shot. As soon as the gun goes off my dad and I get up with our chicken on a stick and run up to the gobbler flopping around. We got to within 5 feet of the other gobbler alive. He had no idea what we were or what was going on. He stood around gobbling at us and the flopping turkey for about 3 to 5 minutes before slowing working away. We have never experienced anything like we did today. I just wished my son and nephew would have been there. They would have been laughing so hard. Being with my dad today and seeing him next to that alive turkey so close to each other made a memory and story for life.

Sweet rig. I've been wanting to do a big build like this. May have to sell my other savage 6.5 creedmoor to fund.
