which pack is the best all around for hunting?

I have the Sitka Bivy 30 and can fit a deer fully deboned, hyde, and head plus my tripod and binos. A lot of room and VERY light plus the frame is nicer than most packs allowing your back to not sweat.

    Dial Drop Determination Questions?

You can call any manufacturer and ask them what the G7 is of your bullet. The G7 profile is based off a sharp nose and boat tail when the G1 is based off a sharp nose and flat base. You can use the G1 but you will only get close. The G7 profile is the best to use for any long range solutions. Most companies still use the G1 profile because of the point that the G1 is a higher number. The reason why they did this is because if the customer. When you go buy bullets you are looking for the bigger number. If they used the CORRECT profile G7 then that number is a lot lower making you believe that the bullet is no good. My G7 on berger 6.5 140gn is .313 and the G1 is .612. I shoot long range a lot and would NEVER go to a ballistics turret because of the simple fact that conditions are always changing. Like others have said get you a Kestral and a ballistics app for your phone and you will be set. Google is your friend. Learning is even more fun. Get on Google and look up the difference between the G1 standard and the G7 standard. Also look up what others are using for long range (ie ballistics turrets, standard moa turrets, or standard mil turrets) you will be surprised. Its a lot of math involved but even more fun when you get out and enter everything that you can and hit a target with 1 shot at 1000+ yards. Applied ballistics is another dvd, book, app that you can look into. They will tell you how to obtain your BC by shooting 3 different distances. They will also explain into detail what your hit percentage is at different ranges and wind age. What do you have to lose. Have fun and be safe.

    Wtb bolt handle

When you said 45 to 100 I was thinking bolt LOL. I have never seen a bolt HANDLE past 45.00. I have seen bolts from 45 to 100 depending on manufacture. LOL. I have 2 of these and they work great and cost very little http://www.midwayusa.com/product/193602/savage-arms-1-piece-bolt-handle-assembly-savage-10-110-right-hand-large-knob-steel-matte?cm_vc=ProductFinding
  9. Heck ya like rcdinaz said re barrel it. It will still be cheaper to almost fully customize it with the barrel of your choice than to sell it and get a new gun which will not shoot as good as the custom. 6.5x284 will surely get you out there to as far as you want. Or you could go with 6.5x06 i heard those are a blast too shoot. I know the new 26 nosler thats what you should re barrel it for.

    Wtb bolt handle

Ya just the bolt handle it is a plug and play. But bolt heads and body need to be head spaced. My bad I thought you were talking about the bolt body itself.

    Wtb bolt handle

Chad When changing a bolt or barrel it will never just be a plug and play. The head space HAS to be checked no matter what. I bought a new bolt head for my bolt and just even changing that changed the head space. Not much but it did change. The head space is one thing you do not chance. So when changing anything with the bolt or barrel always check just to be safe.
  12. I have had a .308 shooting 175 gn bullets and a 7mm shooting 168gn bullets both were more than 1.5 lbs difference. There is a lot that can play factors in this heck they could have even been using a 7mm that was heavier. Anyways I know for a fact what I have experienced from MULTIPLE rifles and to me a .308 I can shoot over 50 rounds in a day without any arm soreness compared to a 7mm I get about 10 rounds and I have to put it away. I have moved on and sold all my guns for 2 6.5 Creedmoors that I and my son (7years old) can shoot all day and be very precise and accurate.

fyi Bubbacoues this is what I paid for my stuff: Shilen Stainles select match 6.5 cm 1;8 twist- 339.00 northland shooter supply (NSS) trued barrel nut- 28.00 NSS trued recoil lug- 27.00 NSS barrel nut wrench- 25.00 NSS action wrench- 60.00 rifle basix 14oz to 3lbs trigger- 85.00 Northland Shooters supply was the cheapest and easiest to deal with. Everything was in stock and shipped the same day. They carry Shilen and Criterion barrels and from what I have read from others that have done reviews on prefit barrels these 2 manufactures are the best. I was looking at the McGowen but then changed my mind when I heard poor reviews from recent buyers. Could not find a negative review on the Shilen or Criterion barrels. I am really interested to see how good of a shooter that barrel you have is. Please post up some pics here or shoot me over a PM. The Savages are soo much fun to work on. I really did not need the stuff I ordered but why not I wanted the best of the best. Now I have 3650.00 invested in my rifle and I have not done the bolt yet.
  15. How do you figure a .308 is the same recoil as a 7mm 8OWHUNT247?

WOW nice job. I just ordered me an HS Precision stock, Shilen barrel 6.5 creemoor, NSS Barrel nut, NSS action wrench, NSS barrel nut wrench, Rifle basics trigger, Mason G/No go gauge, NSS recoil lug, and kiff lambeth complete bolt assembly. Should be just what I am looking for. I love my rifle as stock but want it to be a mostly custom rifle.

    Question for the Cope lovers

I smoked for 12 years and quit because of my kids and so I would not stink when I went hunting. To quit smoking i just picked up a can of chew. IT WAS the best alternative to smoking. I chew BIG dips (1/2 of a can) for only about 30 minutes if not less so. I go through about 2 1/2 cans a day 5 dips (still cheaper than smoking). I only spit even though I have heard it is worse to spit. Something about spitting your acids out which you need. But anyways I still have not received any cavities. My grandpa chewed for 60 years and never did get cancer and still had his original teeth when he passed so I believe it is in the genes. Everyone is different. I look at it this way I could get into my Jeep after work and be killed so tobacco did not kill me. If it gets to the point that i need to quit I will. I have quit everything else that was 100000 times worse so to me tobacco is nothing compared to all the other crap. On another note they say Marijuana is the gateway drug I personally believe TOBACCO is the gate way drug. Just thought I would add that in there even though I have not smoked a jay in YEARS.

    G7 BR2 Rangefinder Review

Like SPEEDYGOSS said practice is the key here. Don't just practice when there is no wind you have to test yourself and your equipment in all types of conditions. So like lately it has been 20 mph winds everywhere and 20 mph winds would be the worst case scenario. I base it off of how many times can i hit the 12" plate at 1000 yards? If i can hit that plate under every condition 8 out of 10 times 80% then yes I could say I am confident that I can take that shot. I only have a 12" plate to shoot at because basically that is the size of a Coues. If I can't hit that plate then I have no chance of hitting a deer at the desired range. So know your limits and know when to say yes and no. Thanks for putting up these videos SPEEDYGOSS. here is a few more on how the rangefinder works.

    G7 BR2 Rangefinder Review

I have the G7 and I will tell you it can do ALOT more than ANY RANGEFINDER ON THE MARKET. Here is a review: First off I do not work for True Pulse G7 BR2, Laser Technology, or with any affiliates these findings are solely from my experience with trial and error and the G7 BR2 was bought with my own money. First impressions are great and I tell you when I ordered the G7BR2 you get exactly what you paid for. With a price tag of 1699.00 I started to really research rangefinders. I have a nikon riflehunter 1000 and can usually get out to about 750 with it but wanted to be able to range further. I loved it because it has incline decline which for this topic we will call THD (True Horizontal Distance). With being able to range as far as I can I wanted the THD feature on whatever rangefinder I found. Now almost most of them have it BUT the catch is it will tell you true line of site with a degree of incline or decline. So I thought seriously why can't they make one that tells me THD instead of line of site with degree. while searching I found the G7 BR2 but man the price was way up there. So I started to research. This rangefinder has a built in ballistics program and will give you TRUE exact readings. 1st off you can enter into the profile select which consists of 6 1 for JUST pure ranging that give true line of site, THD, tempature, alltitude, baro pressure. Next 5 profiles is where you would enter in guns. You can store a 30-06, .308, 338 mag what ever you have. In my case I have a hunt coming up and have my dads gun saved, 2 buddies gun saved and 2 of my rifles saved. When it comes time for them to shoot just select the correct profile (which you can name anything) and it will in turn give me correct THD in moa calculating in baro pressure, temp, altitude. 2nd once you have chosen a profile to update you can edit the name of profile. Next you chose Moa, BDC, Or inch as a drop standard. Moa gives you a correction value so you can dial up lets say 500 yards is 10 moa. It would read 500 yards with 10 moa. You can also select BDC if you already have a BDC turret (BDC turret is one that is set yardage for your rifle from usually the manufacture of the scope). So BDC terms would be 500 yards is 5 on your bdc turret. With the BDC input you will additionally input turret altitude, and turret temperature and this is only for the BDC turret. Next selection is the G1 or G7 standard. Almost every boat tail pointy bullet is a g5, g7 standard but most manufactures of ammo only give a g1 standard. G1 standard is a flat base pointed tip bullet. Next you enter in your BC of your G1 or G7 standard. Then you input in your muzzle velocity, then sight height, then zero range. *EXAMPLE*Now since you have your description (.308 Howa) with a MOA, G7, BC of .242, Muzzle velocity 2588, sight height of 2.00 (inch), zero range of 103 yards. You now can select if you want the range finder to continuously range, Range far targets (flat country), near targets. Now you press the range button with your .308 Howa (examp) selected it will give me a TRUE LINE OF SIGHT reading but here is the catch it will then calculate everything you imputed to the alltitude, temp, baro, incline/decline and shoot back a MOA number that appears about 2 seconds after the range is given. For example if I ranged a deer at 388 yards it would display 388 for 2 seconds then switch to 7.4 moa. Now lets say you want to check all this with a ballistics program fine just press the mode button once then press the up down arrow to give you all the reading s like THD, temp, baro, altitude, ect now since you have everything that needs to be inputted into the ballistics program you can to check to see if everything is on. Also included is the ability to dope wind with a wind meter. Just get your current reading 5, 10, 15 mph and once you have your MOA adjusted then press the down or up arrow and the reading from the range will be calculated into the wind so if you have a 5 mph wind with a range of 400 yards your reading should be 1 moa (.308 Howa). The ballistics engine will work out to 1400 yards with the range finder able to range without ballistics to 2500 (I have actually had the ranging work out to 2500) which is unbelievable. The range finder has a great goretex outer shell that is very durable. You can also select 3 different crosshairs with the back light able to be adjusted bright or dim. For everything this rangefinder has to offer from just ranging to getting full ballistics with wind this rangefinder is a must for those that require a long distance shot or just seeing how far away that hill is so you can plan accordingly. The rangefinder also comes with the instructions, extra battery, neck strap, and a hard shell case. I was going to go with the leica but the only down side to that is the ballistics is not TRUE it is based off a ballistics curve so you pick the CLOSET one to your gun which is not reliable. Please take the time to review the video I have attached to see this rangefinder in action and I know I do not explain stuff the best but this video will show you just what I mean. I can now say THAT THERE IS NO OTHER RANGEFINDER ON THE MARKET WITH THIS KIND OF CAPABILITIES. So the 1699.00 price tag is WELL worth the price if not more. Here are all the videos:

    remington 700 sendero nightmare

I had the same problem when I purchased a .308 700 ssd-aac tactical back in october. I went through and put an HS stock on, Trigger, bedded it, new scope, new base, and new rings and all it did was improve the group 1 inch. So now it was a 5 inch group instead of 6 inch. I was shooting 168 grain bergers through it so I chaged and grabbed some federal 168 and same thing. So I tried 150 grain and it got worse. So i grabbed some 175 grain and BINGO!!! It started shooting sub moa actually .246 groups talk about a difference. So if you get it back and they say it shoots fine then try heavier bullets. Just food for thought. I still sold it and jumped away from 700 fast and went and bought 2 Savages in Model 10 in 6.5 creedmoor and model 11 in 6.5 creedmoor now both of these guns out of the box shoot .25 groups with factory ammo and reloads are even better. I believe remington (with the way the gun was made) has dropped their standards big time. Why change a great trigger to that piece of crap 40x? And the bolts need to have sako style extractors and not the c-clip. Just not a fan of remington anymore. I had a 6.8 from remington that did the same thing it only liked 1 type of grain of ammo.
