Amen to that! Oh BTW sidearms are legal to carry on an archery hunt!

Though I agree on most of what has been said (minus the not shooting towards the end of day) I sure hope the anti-hunters do NOT read these articles cuz next thing you know all of you will be on a national magazine or television show called something like Treehugger.com as witness to the fact we shouldn't allow hunting in the United States. Just saying...

Yes Allen, please fill in the details of the hunt now that Chef took care of the pictures for you! Thank you Chef for putting the pictures in as Allen asked me to do it and I am a computer retard at best. My idea was to get Akuritone to do it for me but thanks a bunch for stepping up and doing this for us and also sending the scoring sheet over to Allen while he sat in the motel room on his bed with the head in his lap! The antelope's head people, focus - focus!

Typical Jarhead! (affectionately meant) Gotta love all maggots! -
Good job and way to not hang your head after day 1. As for the AR I hope you were shooting the AR-30 and not the AR-15 as that would seem a bit shy for a black bear, especially over a couple hundred yards away or more! I'm sure this will stir the pot but thought I would ask, but beings you mentioned varmint or coyote shooting in the same breath I assume the 15! Still though you got your first bear and that is indeed an accomplishment and a rush no doubt! Congrats pardner!

I'm not 100% positive but I also think his bugle is kind of raspy "sounding" from the "looks" of the pics, like his limp is causing him to not really beller one out!

Coueshunter and I were sighting in our weapons @ Usery for our upcoming bad a$$ antelope hunt in NM and we had a fella tell us a story about how he was dejected over a bunch of Rhino's (4 wheel kind) riding down the road through his unit which was over around Wickenburg and he just upped and stopped hunting and went home. Then this other fella must have overheard it and chimed in "sounds like a hunting story" and I quickly responded "maybe his kind of hunting but not ours". The perception from those that either don't hunt or don't like hunters/hunting is always as such and I wanted to make darn sure this second fella knew all hunts are not like this west side Sally that packed up and went home. We all have had bad moments out there but when I recall some of the good times it brings a smile to my face and I know, I just know I was meant to be out there in the mountains! My friends see a dramatic change in me as I drive further and further from the city and it is all positive and relaxed! I sure hope you reconsider my friend and continue to enjoy the outdoors as it is not something all can appreciate. Amanda was spot on when she suggested backpacking in on a hunt in Colorado or Utah, do a bow hunt where it isn't as hard to get drawn or you can buy an over the counter tag for not much and still do what you love the! Best of luck to you in what ever decision you make effenjeff and know that your fellow brothers/sisters on this site will carry the torch into the night!

Ho Hum! And in today's news the weather in Arizona will be sunny and hot with a slight chance for more sun and heat! "yawn"! -

So you pattern his visits, weekends or weekdays, day or night and you set up somewhere in camo waiting for him to come. Then what do you do once you see the guy there? Do you approach him and ask him for ID? Open up a can of whoop-a$$ on him? Citizen arrest? It's at times like that when you really find out how badly you wish to stop the law breaker and to what extent you will go to do so. Have you tried speaking with a game warden or the county sheriff's office about it to see what they might do? This is along the same lines as the tree stand stealing too and though its on public land it is still someone's physical property and there should be a law against others taking whats not theirs? (my example would be you are parked in a WalMart parking lot and someone steals your bicycle out of your pickup truck, is it OK because it was not on your personal property or is it still stealing and a crime?) I wish you luck in stopping this guy as thieves and liars are not something I tolerate very well. If we were in a middle east country this guy would only steal from you twice and from then on the only thing he would be able to steal would be "donuts"!!!!!!

Awesome deal you got there partner! The old addage "you get what you pay for" does sometimes mean just that I suppose! Glad to hear a fellow hunter was treated right by one of our vendors in the hunting world as only the LORD knows we sure enough spend a ton of dinero on trinkets and this and that!

Thanks ThomC for your thoughts. I am not sure who all they called other then the Sheriff's department and game n fish but it isn't comforting to know that we have women and grandchildren on this ranch and the men are off working or in town and these things occur. They were receptive to allowing X number of hunters access during a particular season but since you must drive right through their front yard basically they now feel it is best to just lock the gate and eliminate the threat. Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened and guys have even been ballsy enough to not even stop and ask, but have merely drove through the courtyard and went into the ranch. Given time I am sure they will reconsider but I dont blame them in the least for circling the wagons for now and it is more then one ranch as just sitting there listening to them talk you can tell they are not happy with the lack of respect for their private property.

There is quite a bit of private land on the east side of the G's and unfortunately a poor example of hunters was shown on our family ranch last year! My brother in law/sister ended up calling the sheriff's department as hunters had entered the ranch of their own accord and ended up shooting multiple deer (more then they had tags for) and attempted to leave them to waste, both bucks and does. That and the fact that they came all the way into literally the backyard of the homestead where our folks live and were shooting right by the barn was quite unnerving to say the least. Had I been there I can tell you the law wouldn't have been called for awhile until we took care of things ourselves!! So now the family is closing the ranch off (locking gates) as well as their neighbors next to them for many miles to the north which all but closes off access to the G's from the east side. I wish there were some positive, good stories to tell to offset what we are always trying to say is "the few bad apples" but not in this area. Sad to say but even if they were not my family I wouldn't fault them in the least and would do the same if I owned land there too! Good luck in your hunting and hope you can find a place safe enough to hunt that holds deer.

Vortex Riflescope and Binocular Sale
Broken Wheels replied to gr8fuldoug's topic in Optics and tripods
Unless I got a smoking deal on say a Zeiss or Swarovski (and I mean really smoking deal) I would only purchase a Vortex as I have a couple now and love both the price and the quality! Have one on a small and magnum caliber and not an issue on either plus Doug is the best to deal with hands down! -

Hey folks, I was downtown this morning to "show my support" for those against our immigration bill but I couldn't do much for them as all their chants and speaches were not in English??? Luckily some of their posters were in English (must have paid someone to make them) so I at least knew which side I was parked on at the time! Pretty comical if it weren't for the fact that we are all probably paying out the a@# for the 200 something federal and local level law enforcement people I saw down there. Heard the Eagle was replaced by the skunk as the Presidents theme animal because it symbolizes "half black, half white and everything the President does ends up stinking"!

What if and its an "if" we were all to start ignoring the letter of the law and follow the ways of the illegals? Say we get pulled over, we need not show our license either and see just how far cops push it! What if we fail to show proof of insurance in an urgent care faciilty and just tell them we are illegals and not responsible to pay for anything and see if they refuse us medical attention? What if we had a march downtown ourselves, say 500,000 of us all with firearms shouldered to voice our discontent with the government's refusal to protect paying citizens rights FIRST? I bet we would not get near the attention these non-english speaking folks are getting right now or we would get all negative press with the left wing media bought and paid for by Comrade Boros spinning the story to show us as rebellious rebels out of control, though our weapons would never move to ready arms!! If we don't make a "CHANGE" in November I fear there will be some significant violent acts in the not too distant future but it may be what it takes. 13 colonies seemed to do just fine by themselves and I would bet you 13 states would do alright as well. Interesting times we are coming up on and we all should be ready to come to the aid of OUR state should the need arise. Take care fellow hunters and watch your six!

Tonto Basin? Do you need four wheel drive to get to Tonto Basin friend? Looks like a nice rifle and will make someone a happy camper! Be careful out there J-Rod!!

Some folks on here oughta try reading everything before they spout off! And when you make comments such as "high priced" on a weapon such as a Pre64 and you haven't laid eyes on that weapon yet, you really should refrain from such comments on a quality site such as CWT. All it does is cause anxiety, bitterness and negativity which we try to avoid by coming to CWT and sharing the jpy of hunting, fishing and camping together! Just saying...
