    Interesting coues behavior

This explanation makes sense. Bucks make scrapes during the rut to check in on who's been hanging around or passing through. No reason all deer would not exhibit similar behavior year around.

Ban on Russian guns and ammo

Non-story if you ask me. I don't shoot Russian ammo. Vladimir Putin is not our friend. But I don't shoot Russian ammo because I hate Putin. I don't shoot Russian ammo because I love my firearms. I support American ammunition manufacturers.

    Where’s nobull?

Clearly a hybrid. You can tell by the location of the metatarsal glands. 😄

    Need a Cerakote guy

^ ^ ^ I'm sorry about your experience PRDATR. I've used Wright Armory a number of times for engraving and light, general gunsmithing and the experience has been positive. But I've never had anything cerakoted.

    Toyota Sequoia - Any good?

With all the supply chain issues during the pandemic, it'll be super expensive to buy new or used for a while longer. If the only problem is motor mounts you might want to consider getting it fixed. There's always that time in a vehicle's life where fixing it is just throwing good money after bad but if everything else checks out okay you might consider it. You could end up money ahead compared to a car payment. But to answer your question, my mom had a Sequoia and it still ran well with 300K + miles on it. (And I'm hoping for a 4Runner to replace my '02 Xterra in the next year or so.)

    Credit card updates

I see your point but that would rob us all of the opportunity to be forensic accountants looking for account activity which may or may not mean we drew a tag. 😀

Minimalist “less is now” kill some time

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a hard time moving things down the road thinking that I might need them some day. But I do like tidy spaces. This might help me. When I do give something away or throw it out (giving things away is easier for me), I think "I just made my house bigger."

    For Sale - Swaro 65MM STX/ATX/BTX Objective - $800 OBO

QCChevy: Consider keeping it. Save up for the 85 (or 95, if that's what floats your boat). The point of the STX/ATX/BTX system is being able to mix and match. Potential Buyer: Consider buying it. If there were one objective to rule them all for this system, it would be the 65.

    Is this Legit?

My guess is that the elk found a road killed rabbit and is enjoying a free, nutrient dense snack. Elk will gnaw on bones for the minerals and eat baby birds for the minerals and iron and protein. I'd think this is especially true for gestating cows since they're building a new elk inside and that takes a metabolic toll.

    Bison reduction project

I'm glad NPS and AZGFD are doing this. I'm not sure of the timing but if these "management actions" but if they precede the State House Rock hunts they'll leverage their efforts because the herd will get pushed out of the NP into AZGFD's jurisdiction where State tag holders can go to work. I'm impressed the NPS and AZGFD are getting creative in solving this problem. They are even getting around some of the bureaucratic hurdles (which, of course, are of their making). Remember, this is not a hunt. Hunts are illegal on NPS land. [This is from the website: "This management action is not a hunt but a lethal removal of an overpopulated bison herd to protect park resources at the guidance of the NPS. Hunting is illegal in Grand Canyon National Park."]

    Cool ATL pic

That's awesome! They'd make a cool plaque mount and even more special with the pic of the buck sporting them before he relinquished them.

    FOIA to AZGFD

I certainly understand the curiosity, especially in light of a lack of a clear explanation as to what happened. But I'd rather they focus on trying to pull off the fall draw without incident rather than having them assign people to scurry around to comply with a public records request. I truly understand the desire to have an explanation though.

I wonder if the pig was hit by a car (or had some other injury) and the bear happened upon a meal of opportunity.

    Tipping Taxidermist

I rarely have this conundrum but like most answers to life’s questions, I’d say the answer is “It depends.” If it’s a high-end, established taxidermist doing a shoulder mount that will take 12-18 months to complete and you’re paying top dollar, I’d say probably not. You’d “tip” that taxidermist just by being a good, patient, cash-paying client. No need to start calling after the first month and every month thereafter to “check on the progress” then whip out a credit card and ask for a receipt when it’s time to settle up. But if the taxidermist drives from Young and meets you in Payson so you can pick up a skull cap mount, an extra $20 for his gas would be appropriate, even if he had to go to Payson anyway. (But even then, it would probably surprise the taxidermist.) If it’s a young person who’s in school, on the football team and student council and cleans/bleaches skulls for a side hustle, I’d hand over more cash than required and say “I appreciate your hard work. I don’t need any change back.” So it depends, I guess.

    Rejected card bonus point question

This is my favorite post on this thread. My only regret is that I only have one "thumbs up" to give. PLEASE post the story of your son's bear hunt. Sounds like the hunt of a life time. I'm happy for all your silver linings.

    Huntin' Jokes

Did I ever tell you about the time I was hunting with my brother, my dad and my uncle on an early rifle bull hunt in Unit 1? (Or was it 27? Heck, I don’t remember.) All I know is that we'd hunted hard all day. We were exhausted and were just sitting around staring at the campfire. We were imbibing, as was our practice in those days, when my brother started goofing around with his cow call. He was trying to blow the lint out of it, or some such nonsense, when we heard this bugle just a few hundred yards away. We all got silent and stared at each other in the flickering fire light. Then, just for fun, my dad let out a bugle. And the bull cut him off! That bull was HOT and getting closer! Then my uncle let another bugle go and that bull was on top of us! Next thing we know this monster bull, easily 380+, comes charging out of the darkness. First we saw his ivory tipped rack at the edge of the firelight. Then we watched in awe as he came trotting on in, right through the middle of our camp, snortin' and slobberin' and spoilin' for a fight. Well, naturally, as soon as I saw him I took a shot. Then my brother took a shot, then dad took a shot, then my uncle took a shot. Then I took another shot for good measure. But by the time we got the cap back on the whiskey bottle that bull long gone. He prolly ran all the way to Unit 27. (Or was it 1? Heck, I don’t remember.)
