Fine firearms are a global commodity-considering maybe one in 10,000 firearms produced can be considered fine. english doubles, american revolvers and european pistols have a weight in the market that has always defied borders. for the USA! i currently like marlin. lee

sad subject. Winchester is no more-browning and Winchester are part of a european consortium now. i would have to say Winchester Repeating Arms(now defunct), Colt, and CZ. lee

One of the most visible AZGFD employees in the white mountains is in the hospital. Richard has been the creel survey guy out of pinetop for years had a health episode at the wheel of his truck last week and crashed-was flown out to the valley. he walked the lakeshores 5 days a week with that clipboard talking to anglers and giving great advice. out on the lakes in 60mph spring winds doing gillnetting surveys when not a single human could be seen anywhere except him and his volunteer partners. and then finding him trolling for walleye at midnight when we passed noiselessly in our boats. sure hope he is back out on the lake with that clipboard next spring. lee

My first scouting trip......
biglakejake replied to naturegirl's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
mature bucks don't move much at all until the rut gets going. or. there are hunters in the field pushing/bumping and shooting at them. if you have a good overlook and well travelled routes you will get an opportunity or three. and stick with it. don't go back to camp at 9:00am. luck, lee -

However, the logic isn't lost on Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble. In an interview with ABC News at the 82nd Interpol General Assembly, Noble noted that an armed citizenry is one of two ways to effectively confront terrorists bent on carrying out massacres at "soft-targets," such as the gunmen who conducted the recent attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya that killed 67. Noble told the interviewer, "Societies have to think about how they're going to approach the problem.... One is to say we want an armed citizenry; you can see the reason for that. Another is to say the enclaves are so secure that in order to get into the soft target you're going to have to pass through extraordinary security." Speaking at length on the topic, the Secretary General went on to say, "Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly? ... What I'm saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, 'Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?' This is something that has to be discussed… People are quick to say 'gun control, people shouldn't be armed,' etc., etc. I think they have to ask themselves: 'Where would you have wanted to be? In a city where there was gun control and no citizens armed if you're in a Westgate mall, or in a place like Denver or Texas?" Entire story: http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2013/10/secretary-general-of-interpol-suggests-an-armed-citizenry-to-combat-mass-violence.aspx who'da thunk it ? but instead of colorado maybe he shoulda referenced our own westgate mall right here in AZ. lee -

Sriracha sauce remains all the rage By Michael KrumboltzOctober 23, 2013 3:16 PMYahoo Finance . View gallery Bottles of Sriracha hot sauce (The Verge) You pass it in the grocery store and see it at restaurants all the time. You might not be able to read all the words on the bottle, but you know what's in it: Sriracha. The hot sauce in the clear bottle with the rooster on the side is incredibly popular. Quartz recently profiled Huy Fong's founder, David Tran, and learned that Tran is a bit of an accidental entrepreneur. Tran, 68, founded Huy Fong 33 years ago with no intention of it going global. Quartz reported that he simply wanted to give Vietnamese immigrants "a hot sauce worthy of their pho soup." He did, and then some. Last year, the company racked up $60 million in sales and posted a double-digit sales growth percentage. He told Quartz that he has never once raised the wholesale price, despite inflation having more than tripled the price of food since 1980. Oh, and Tran doesn't advertise. Below, five things you may not have known about Tran and his creation. 1. Why the rooster? According to a New York Times article, Tran chose the rooster as the sauce's logo because it is his astrological sign in the Chinese zodiac. 2. Why is it so good? A question that would no doubt flatter Tran, who, according to Quartz, loves reading fan mail. The answer, according to the company's official site, is a bit of letdown, though: High quality ingredients. 3. And how do you pronounce it? It's pronounced, SIR-rotch-ah, according to Thrillist. The term is a generic one (like ketchup or mustard), named for the Vietnamese town where it was supposedly created. Huy Fong, by the way, was the name of the ship that Tran came to the U.S. on. 4. Is it true there's a documentary in the works? Glad you asked. It is true. The project was funded via Kickstarterand is set to hit film festivals this fall. Filmmaker Griffin Hammond calls it "an anthem for sriracha lovers." 5. It's been to space. A photo from a 2003 mission aboard the International Space Station features two astronauts,Yuri I. Malenchenko and Edward T. Lu. See the bottle with the green cap floating by? That's the real stuff. Take that, imitators.

worst regrets over rifles sold, lost, otherwise departed. will be miserable rest of days for selling that 1927 M99 takedown 250/3000 with a marbles target tang sight. and the first two mauser 98's i built-a .270 i sold and a .257 roberts/1909 argentine stolen back in '98. the M99 didn't shoot well(modern bullets) but the mausers would do jackrabbits at 500yds all day long. lee
