velocity and 'shock' are not effective at killing very tenacious-of-life big game animals including deer. what counts-kills-is wound channel and blood loss due to penetration. the sectional density and weight retention of a quality 100 grain .243 projectile is the minimum that has proven effective over the last 50 or so years. the first coues deer i helped dress out at 15 was riddled with eleven 22/250 bullets. go with a bolt action rifle-and spend all the money. try .257 roberts, .260 remington and 7mm/08 if versatility like varmints-to-elk is being considered. lee yea just my opinion.

yes lets see it! the only monster bull i saw dead this year was at the grocery store in clay springs in the back of a white dodge truck. 383 "Clay Mine Bull". but the only CWT sticker around was in the window of my cherokee. no pics. lee

my 16 bonus points for goat did me ZERO good with my only choice last year 3c. and the monster pronghorn bucks that were chasing does around last october in 3c disappeared over the winter. dang all poachers. lee

one morning back in the 90's i was sitting on the rim slopes above the old zane gray cabin site glassing some velvet bulls. a half dozen of these little yellow birds were flitting around in the snag about a foot or two above my head all morning. i had to lift my head and look when i heard a sound like a bat hitting a softball about a foot above my glasses. all that was there was a bunch of yellow feathers floating down on me-i followed the trail of feathers going down the rim to a little yellow bird in the grasp of a perrigrin falcon doing about 80 knots.......very close encounter of the lethal variety. i was sitting on a stool glassing for bear in 24a once-gun was left back in the jeep a hundred yard away. all of a sudden i hear rocks being rolled in the manzanita about 10 yds under me....a bear is coming up the hill right into my lap...i am so glad that bear turned out to be javalina-so close it actually kicked my big foot when it turned and blasted outa there. never carry a stool instead of a rifle.... lee insanity runs in the family-it practically gallups!

first december tag i have drawn since 1998. still have the same '09 Argentine Mauser in .257 Roberts Ackley Improved with a 26" Shilen bbl. getting 3-5" groups at 400yds with reloader 19 and the 120gr nosler partition. Holbrook, AZ 's best gunsmith is raving about reloader 17 but he is shooting lighter bullets and getting 3700 fps. my noslers are travelling right at 3000 and i believe in consistency over just about everything for long range shooting. does anybody have info on the rl 17 with 115 to 120 gr bullets? thank you, lee show low, AZ Insanity runs in the family-it practically gallups!
