    Any Archaeologists here?

It very well could be a burial in an ancient ruin and the creek has cut into the patio where the burials are. If there is pottery on the ground and rock foundations close. Also look at the dirt above the bones, if there is small pieces of charcoal mixed in from close to the top to the bottom, it would be a burial. 5 ft is about right. Looks like alot of mixed dirt above, most likely it's in a ruin. Kent

Really nice, kids having fun is always great. That's a $20.00 crawdad. Depending on the size, the kids will get money to let them pinch on their finger, That's definately a 20.00 dad. Kent

    first attempt

Mike, I think that's rain, looks like maybe a little storm came through and lightning on the bright one with rain a few minutes later. Probably wind turned the cam, the straping system is crappy and I can't get it tight to the tree. I'm going to modify it and put it out again. Wasn't bad for the cheapest cam at Basspro and 70.00, I wish I had better pics of the bulls antlers. This spot is less than 20 miles from you, you might know it, Gino probably does. Kent
  6. Most likely there was just something happening to the crono today, sunlight, clouds, distance, blast something. I once went out to the range with my 270 and it read 3250 exactly, then another 3250, exactly, then I got an error, then 3250. It was cloudy or I had it too close to the muzzle, something. I quit that gun for the day and tried it again another with the rest of the loads, 2980 to 3000, never had a strange reading again, probably aliens. I just don't think 3174 is doable with a full case of H4831 in a 22 in tube, but if you try it again take precautions. 60 grs will be compressed and normally just under max pressure. Kent
  7. Wouldn't suprise me and have nothing to do with archers killing more than their share of animals. Let's see, an app fee and tag fee for a spring deer tag, then you can apply for a fall tag with new app and tag fees, then there'll be the new draw for late winter app and tag fee. Why should you get to hunt three seasons and only pay for two tags as it is now, you guys were way to spoiled when all you had to pay was for one tag and hunt three seasons. Of course these are just rumors and I'm just joking, seriously, really. Kent

    Which Pack Frame

Mystery Ranch CBMR ACU Cerberus Sale, Nice frame and Pack combo. This is a deal. http://www.mysteryranch.com/packs/126/cbmr...sale-item).html Kent
  9. there are reasons for doing either. Neck sizing reduces the stretching back and forth of the brass extending it's life, also leaving it formed to your chamber for a custom fit. After 3 to 5 shots it will have expanded to the point you can feel the tightness as you close the bolt. At that point you need to full length or like Mike said just bump the shoulder back with your FL die and trim, that's what I do. I see no difference in accuracy from neck or bump sizing or full length for that matter in hunting loads. My dedicated, in the field hunting loads are always bumped back and cycled to insure reliability, just feel better in my mind. Slide action or lever action guns need to always be FL sized. Kent

    new AZGFD survey

Everyone's life is a little different. The proposal is for 30 tags in the 5 regions not units that don't have a dec youth hunt. That's 150 tags total in the state plus the 30 already available. Sometimes it's not just about getting out of school but in the case of being on a sports team that plays every weekend, the decision may be between being loyal to your teammates or going hunting. It's a small issue to some and a big issue to others. I would have liked to see the one and done per species on the youth hunts, then into the main draw addressed. I would also like to see the tag price for youths to be the lower price for all hunts not just the designated youth hunts. In Colorado, at least last year, a NR youth pays 100.00 for an elk tag total, that's less than the license and tag price for a Res youth here. Kent

    new AZGFD survey

I took the survey mainly for the youth issues, at least they listened to some comments but there were others that were important that they ignored. The most hotly debated issues and seemingly important to many of us never got a sniff, goes to show that we don't really know what's important to the real public. Kent
  12. Took my brother up to do some fishing and I wanted to setup my first ever trailcam. The fishing was good but the big ones are waiting for the monsoons I guess. I hiked in quite a ways to an area I've jumped a big coues buck, bedded on a bench above a spring, numerous times during nov archery elk. Since this spanned a few years, probably not the same buck, just a good spot. Anyway I set up the cam on the bench and a bear has been tearing the logs up in the area. Did find an old shed on the bench that had the tines chewed off but has great mass. Maybe his grandson is still around. Kent

    Need new hiking boots

Ok, cut the heels out. Sierra trading post has really good deals on quality backpacking boots, but the largest I can find is 14's, don't know if you should buy them before you try them though. Might call before and see about their return policy, I've bought a ton of stuff but never had to return anything. I always assume when someone posts this type of question without naming a highend product that they are looking for a good product at a good price. If price isn't a consideration the Kenetreks are probably the best right now. Here's some good deals right now in size 14, sign up for their email and get 20% off. Lowa boot Lowa Kody Kent

    Eastern whitetails in AZ?

Only coues here. I used to archery hunt around Williams and off DD rd way back in the early 90's, there were some big WT around back then, at least in unit 8. Kent
  16. Yes, you are on the edge of each shaft, a 400 or 340. A spine chart is only the starting point. You may be able to put a 125 head on and still be in exceptable spine as far as accuracy goes. You will not gain any KE without cranking up the poundage though, you will go slower but hit just as hard as if you were going faster with your current setup. If you were in perfect spine with your current setup and you were probably real close if not perfect, I shoot the same DW, DL, and GT XT at real close to the same poundage. Putting the 125 will put you slightly underspined, your shaft will flex more now, than with the 100. To get more KE you will need to up the poundage and that will put you even more underspined. Imagine pushing a rock with the point of a stick. It will bend before getting the rock rolling and having it's own momentum. If the stick's the same except for length, it will bend more if longer and less if shorter. Spine. If you use the same stick but try and push a different weight rock it will bend more or less depending on the weight change. Effecting spine. If you add more or less energy into the shaft and head, the shaft will bend more or less depending on the amount. Spine again. If you make one change, you must make at least one other. Nothing helps KE except increasing energy. Here is how much flex is in a tuned bow. To have your bow in tune you need the flex to be as vertical as possible with a release, horizontal with fingers, and ride on two nodes going staight/square to the target. That's why once you have your arrows bought and cut and a head attached there is only one true poundage/energy tune with your bow to that setup. Like the harmonics of a rifle barrel, the harmonics of your arrow shaft is important. To truly get more KE you will need to up your poundage, buy stiffer arrows and put on your 125's, then retune your entire setup. The most important factor in penetration is hitting as square as possible and the broadhead. Don't fix what ain't broke. Kent
  17. Coues Archer, I have never used the easton epics but at 8.6 gpi there's not much difference than the GT's at 8.2 so each is spined pretty close. Are you having accuracy problems with your setup or just wanting a change? The only reason I ask is, if you are chasing tune by buying different equipment, it is probably a waste of money. Any arrow can be made to work in any bow if it is spined for that setup. You may have to adjust the poundage a little to really harmonize it but that is easy. I shoot the same setup you have right now and have no problems, going to a 125 head would only screw up my tune and cause me problems and cost me money. KE will only increase with poundage, not weight of BH or arrow. Shooting the same bow without adjusting poundage. A lighter arrow will go faster, a heavier arrow will go slower, they both will start at the same KE and hit with the same KE at the same DISTANCE. A heavier arrow may penetrate 5% more, at the same distance if it is spine tuned correctly, because of momentum, but that's almost nothing. So many people think they will gain some advantage to going with a heavier arrow or head or both, than what is recomended on a spine chart for their DL, DW and arrow. There is no advantage and tuning becomes a big problem. Paper tune doesn't count, it's how well you shoot out to distance with no fliers and at any position. Kent
  18. 308, that's a great unit, I've backpacked in the wilderness alot. Kent
  19. The only way to increase KE is to increase energy/poundage. A heavier arrow/head combo will have a 3 to 5% increase in momentum, if the poundage stays the same, which isn't enough to consider. With your DL and poundage you're probably shooting a GT 5575, to keep the spine correct you will need a 90 to 100 grain head. If you add a 125, you will need to lower your poundage, or buy heavier spined arrows. If your bow is in tune now, when you change one thing, BH weight, brand of arrow, arrow spine/weight, poundage. You have to change at least one other thing to bring the bow back in tune, changing the rest or nock won't do it. Spine is everything. Gaining 3% in penetration by using a 520 gr arrow/BH combo over a 360 gr combo will make very little realworld difference. If you don't have the heavier combo tuned perfect so it hits square on target you will lose penetration and have less than the lighter arrow. Kent

  22. Again, I'm not trying to get in the middle or anything, just trying to help if I can. My offer stands and it's no trouble for me. Mike, Ryan did PM me yesterday and say if I worked it out it would be fine with him. I have to leave for Californa at 2:00 and will be back sun evening. If the deals a go just pm each other the word yes and Ryan pm me your number by mon morning and I'll take care of everything. I'm headed to up to help with the AES work project the next weekend and can drop it off. Kent
  23. I like those units because it's easy for me to scout them, depending on where you live that may be a consideration. I start scouting in Aug, it pays off. No knowing this early which unit will have the biggest buck in it though. Kent
  24. Yep, any dec tag should be yours. I know what unit I would take but that's a big responceability to choose for someone else. Good luck, you will have a chance at a big buck. If you happen to pick a unit I know, I'll give you what advice I can. Kent
  25. With 8 points you should be able to get a dec hunt, don't put in for oct or nov. I'll check the odds on some units and post them. Kent
