I'm all ears! Please share your mathemetician's conclusions.

Our state has a combination of a preference point system and a bonus point system. I personally don't think there is anything wrong with the draw rules per se, but the way they execute it could certainly use a little polishing up! The bonus point round where the 20% is set aside acts like a preference point system. If you have more points than anybody else who applies, you get drawn, period. This right here pretty much should shut the mouths of all the people who say "I've waited this long, blah, blah, blah". If you truly have more than anybody else applying you get your tag!!! The one/two pass and 3-5 pass, the other 80% part of the drawing is truly random so anyone who is a resident can pretty much draw any tag in the State, with the exception of a few of the sheep hunts and maybe bull bison. Otherwise, if you are lucky enough or have enough points to get lucky, you can get drawn. It's like a lottery, or drawing, or raffle, or any other game of chance where there are certain trends that can be predicted to some degree but you must recognize that there is an element of CHANCE, fairness goes out the window!!! The way I see it is there are a lot of people who have no clue how the draw actually works, so when they get lucky a couple of times, they almost come to expect certain outcomes, when statistics and trends say otherwise. If they only understood what their actual chances were, I doubt as many people would be getting so worked up about not drawing and creating threads like this to vent.

Bummer! Glad I got to see him under a little tent at the Paradise Casino outside of Yuma about 10 or 12 years ago. True legend!

Preference is when they take the ones with the most points and they draw tags, no randomness whatsoever. Basically you are waiting in line. Point creep is the issue here and if you don't start with enough points you might not ever draw. With bonus points the computer assigns a random number to each bonus point and the computer uses the lowest number in the draw. You don't get extra tickets in the bucket. You get extra chances for the computer to randomly assign you a low enough number to be successful in the draw.

When Jr tags are $50 vs $135 you're darn right!

I drew a bison tag for July so I know I am going to be using a lot of vacation time for that. Didn't want to get caught with my pants down drawing a great bull elk tag with little to no vacation time to scout or hunt so I decided to wait it out this year and get a bonus point only. All is not lost however...my wife drew a cow tag so this will be a great learning experience for her and teaching experience for me. Hopefully we end up with some meat in the freezer one way or the other!

I used Cabelas during the Spring draw. I had to do the math to determine if I got drawn, but it did hit the first day. It didn't show on the account activity as a tag hit until the charge actually posted a few days later. Normally without temporary authorizations your credit limit minus balance due will be your available credit. If your available credit is lower than the difference between credit limit and balance due you have a hit!

I highly encourage anyone who has any interest in hunting in this state to write a simple comment letter to the Park Service. One or two line will suffice if that is all you got.

What difference does it make if it was on a Rez? I could care less about where it was killed as long as it was fair chase. Records are more about the animal than the hunter anyway, which is why they allow pickups and deadheads in the books. Congrats to Terry!

I believe that is the case with the current rule. You may want to call Amber Munig with the Department and do a little more research for sure. It seems like I read something recently that the Department was considering a rule change to eliminate Javelina from the up to 10% NR rule.

That was a very rude thing to say to a really great guy! Tom deserves a public apology in my opinion.

I don't think there is any way to withdraw your app, but you might want to consider what they are saying about bad credit card info. If you have your bank issue you a new credit card with a different number on the account that you applied with, IF you get drawn, the Department will contact you letting you have the opportunity to correct the bad card info. If you decline at that time you will lose any loyalty point for that year and not accrue a new point, but that is better than getting drawn and forfeiting your hunt altogher where you lose the money you paid for the tag and all points you earned for not drawing a tag. No brainer for me, I would just change it.
