good luck on your hunt. I too have that tag, and so does my daughter for the jr hunt after ours. I have been hunting that unit for years. Your questions all depend on where you will be hunting. North part or south part of the unit. North part you can expect to see deer in the hills, canyons and flats. South part mostly in the flats in the washes, which can be hard to glass due to most desert washes have alot of vegeitation. The entire unit you can find plenty of hills to climb and glass from, thats the benefit of hunting the desert. Expect to find the bucks alone, and even still running together. The last few years, even on the later Jr hunt, I found bucks running together in 2's and 5's. You may find smaller bucks running with does. For instance my daughter took a 3x2 that was with 3 does. And last year I glassed several spikes and forks with about 10 does running together. Right now they are hitting water frequent due to lack of rain and the hot weather. However if we get some rain before or during the hunt, larger bucks will change their pattern and use the water collecting on the rocks next to their feed and bed area. But the way we are going now with the weather, hunting near water will be good. However I have several cameras up on water, and they are all still hitting at night from 9pm to 4am. Hopefully closer to the hunt the weather will be cooler and keep them active during the day. Good luck on your hunt. The desert holds some nice bucks.

3a 3c Archery deer hunt while scouting Jr cow elk hunt
buglethemin replied to apache12's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That exact area you were talking about hold some group of mulies. I had seen some spikes and 2x's in that area on my daughters cow hunt two years back, and planned on doing the same thing you are this archery season because she drew a late bull tag for that unit, her first bull tag. Good luck on both hunts, hope we get rain soon. -
Risky putting it in the mail on friday and living here in the valley. I hope your app dosent arrive at their office on Saturday. Has to be delivered on Monday. My buds sent theirs out on Saturday afternoon, they checked with the PO and were advised it would not get there until monday morning. They were successful last year. Good luck.

5 shells apply only to semi auto centerfire rifles. Bolt and lever action should be fine?

I had a November hunt in 6a in 2008 the bucks were still running together and I did not see any pre rut activity at that time. I did take a 100+ on opening day during that hunt and my bro in law took a 90 inch buck that was running with the one I shot. I hunted 21 during the rut several times and during Oct as well. Both units have great potential.

I was just curious if anyone here drew a 4a antelope tag, and how many points it took ya. I have 16 now after this draw and I am wanting to draw this tag bad one day. Good luck to the lucky tag holders

Bill Have you every heard of "The Great Outdoors, by Eddie Becker. I have a copy it was published in 1947 and is a first edition in handcrafted mission leather, its all about north american hunting and fishing. Its signed by the author as well. I tried searching this book on the internet but cant find it. Just wondering its value. Thanks Joe

No antelope, dang it now have 16pts, but I did get a rifle bull tag 4a late november, but I have a problem, my 16year old daughter also drew a bull elk tag, same time, but different unit 3a/3c. My hunt will be second to hers, this is her first bull elk tag. I just hope to get her one with some time left for my hunt. Good luck to everyone else.

If thats the case I agree 100% with you. I think the solar is a cop out, they have not even started with permits or anything. We will ever know the truth behind this. We shall see

Ok now I think this is BS, we are all aware of last years Hopi Hunts, where G&F allocated a few tags to put aside for antelope and elk. For Elk I dont have much of a problem with, but for Antelope this just gets my blood boiling. I downloaded last years draw results and success rate for the 2010 antelope hunts. For the 3 tags they issued to the Hopis in 4A only 6 applied. Wouldnt we all love that success rate for getting an antelope tag that we have been waiting a decade or more to draw. 5A had 4 tags for Hopi, and only 4 applied, 100 % draw rate. WOW. I hope AZGFD realizes that many of us have been waiting 15-19 years for an antelope tag. Way to go AZGFD, keep upsetting us more, remember where majority of your revenue comes from "US". Just venting, I have 16 bonus points for antelope, and still cant get drawn. If i was a Hopi it would only take me a year or two to be drawn. Another note, it only costs the Hopi 85 dollars for this tag. If you were to apply for a Hunt on the San Carlos, $4000. I love this system.

Why does something like this always seem to happen with G&F, delaying our draw, changing our hunts, lawsuits. Not too long ago it was the lawsuite from an out of state outfitter claiming that the non resident cap was unconstitiutional, delaying and changing our draw. A year or two ago the Cabelas employee dropping off a box of applications after the 7pm deadline. This of course. It seems every other year a problem arises and delays everything or changes everything.

so what happens like many of us that never put a 3rd chose in for lope due too all tags gone in 1st & 2nd rounds, will they allow us to add a new 2nd chose before the draw? By them removing a 1st or 2nd chose "19b no longer" G & F should be entitled to allow all applicants to add a new alternitive hunt number. Thats why i always fill in all 5 choices, you never know what may happen. G&F should not entitle that to anyone. Its was that persons choice to only put in 2 choices instead of 5.

I just wanted to share a few of my trophies hanging in my game room that I took throughout the years. All taken here in AZ. The WT are from 21 and 6A, The elk are all archery bulls from 4A, the mulie are from 41 and 23, and the bear from the san carlos. Enjoy.
-
agreed, Utah does that for the premium trophy units, if drawn for the trophy elk or deer unit a resident will have to wait 5 yrs before he can apply for a trophy unit. They can apply for the non trophy areas or over the counter tags within that time. I wouldnt mind that here for antelope, early archery/rifle elk, and kiabab/strip mule deer. But then again G&F will loose out on money so they wont do that.
