I helped a friend out in 2005 on an Oct L/O hunt in 22 matazal hunt for any elk. We called in several nice bulls, and they were still responding to cow calls when he killed a nice 6x7 on Oct 23.

Shot this guy last year on opening morning, Nov hunt. First time hunting this unit and only scouted a few times. The buck scored 106 5/8 and I just got him back from the taxi, and put him in the game room.

the hoochie momma worked great the first year it came out in 2002/2003 and bulls responded well to the call, ever since then the bulls got call savy to the hoochie momma and have not used it since, Hyper lip single with or without tone converter is the best, I have only used primos calls, me personally they sound the most realistic.

I have 4a bull, but crittergetter does, you might hit him up for comment, I know he has been doing some scouting but finding an area with bulls was becoming a chore.

Yes I used the bungee cords, and i wasnt worried about someone messing with it, if they did they would of got pricked pretty good

I strapped mine last dec on a large saguaro and got some great pics of some desert mulies. Wear some leather gloves when strapping it.

There looks like there are actually two fires on the Mtn, I noticed it when I was heading back to town this weekend after scouting for bear in the San Carlos. Looked like lighting caused?

I think that guy in the photo shot the bull on a depredation hunt in unit 1, round valley, only 10 hunters got the call from AZGF for that area, unless there is a different photo

I want something bigger than these guys.

Not too good of a broadhead, they kept opening during flight, thats a no go for me, I sent them back and Im going to stick to with my Vortex, I have killed 3 bull elk with the mini max steel 100 gr, and never had a problem with the vortex. My friends have also killed 3 bulls with the same broadheads. Look at some other bow forums and they also talk about having problems opening during flight.

I can understand some hunters frustrations to get into your favoite sweet spot only to notice a trail camera at the spot, but by no right does it give anybody to steal or damage the camera. Just because a camera is there does not mean its claimed by that person/hunter, it just means someone else also knows your sweet spot. It is still first come first serve when the hunt starts, Theives quit stealing our cameras, someday your gonna get caught.

cool pics crittergetter, where are the bulls, you only have two months left before opener. Have you been praticing w/ your bow. I need to set my cam up at that h2o in the habitat area.

I know, I have been lucky, but I play the draw odds, and I always put in on a full app, I have been drawn more times applying on a full app then just by myself, (for game other than antelope, sheep, or buff,), my partners were drawn for archery bull, in 03, 06, 07, and 09 using the same formula, so it might work you never know. I might make you guys throw up more when I tell you I got drawn for my second, choice, sorry, once again good luck on the hunts

I dont want to brag but being drawn in 01 for archery bull, killed a 344 7x7, then drawn again in 03 and killed a 300 6x6 then again in 07 and killed a 330 7x7 non typ, so this year in 09 I will hold out for something huge hopefully 370+++ or go home empty handed, my game room is running out of wall space, plus i need to help 3 others for their first archery kill, before I put my bow in hand. Hopefully we will have a good rut for the archery but not counting on it since the opener keeps getting earlier and earlier. Good luck to everyone

Well this was my daughters second deer hunt. Last year she shot her first spike in 17B, so decided to put her in closer to town for the unit 42 Jr. Hunt. She took this nice 3X2 at 200 yards, one shot from her 30.06. Next year she want to put in for early rifle bull, Well we will see. Enjoy the pics.

White Tanks, South Mountains, Sierra Estrellas
buglethemin replied to Mr. Jonathan's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Good pop of deer all over the whitetanks, but you will have to wait until Jan 1, not open in Dec, wouldnt waist your time in the other two. -
I wanted to thank everyone for their help and information for unit 6A. A couple of months ago when we all got our draw results, some of you helped me with information on 6A, first time hunting the unit, and with a hetic schedule I was only able to scout a few days. However during those August and Sept. scouts I found a spot with some nice bucks. So that is where I started. I got drawn for the second hunt, started last friday. Opening moring was windy as all get up. I spotted the smaller buck at around 9 am. He was on the same hill I scouted in August, but during the scout he was running with a larger buck. Anyway we looked all around this buck, and he seemed alone. I asked who, want to go after it. I was hunting with three other guys and none of them have ever shot a deer. I was going to pass on this buck, since I have taken a few nice ones in the past. My brother in law Tom, answered up. I told him I would go with him to help spot and range the deer as we got closer. As we got within 300 yards or so, I glassed at the last spot we noticed him, and I found another buck. It was the large one I seen scouting. I told Tom there was another buck, and if he wanted this one. He told me he couldnt see, and after several minutes of trying to point it out to him, or give him a reference, I was worried this buck would slip. I decided to shoot it. One shot at 262 yards was all it took. As I shot, Tom's buck stood from its bed at 285 yards, He was able to see and find it in his scope, one shot was all it took. This was his first buck. I did not get a score on his buck but mine scores 106 & 2/8 gross. Thanks guys, hope the photos go through.

Has anyone had any luck in unit 42 this year, and how has your hunt been going and how was the hunting pressure. Specificaly rifle hunting. I know the WhiteTanks is great, but limited to archery only. The reason I'm asking, my 14 year old daughter's Jr. hunt starts next week. It was kinda odd the hunt started after the general hunt. Most of her Jr hunts were always before the general hunt. Any way I have some spots I've scouted and found bucks, just wanted to know about the caliber of bucks being taken, and how was the hunting pressure. Thanks. Attached is a photo of her first elk, this season 3C west general hunt, 232 yards one shot.

Unfortunately the Scuff came from my pack frame, rubbing against my bipod of my rifle attached next to the pack frame, Didnt realize it until I got off that steep hill. Good Meeting you too. Here is a pic of both them together

Are cross bows allowed on the archery hunt? I beleive it is not. The reason I ask, is that I was helping a friend on his archey bull hunt this weekend, and came upon a g&f water catchment tank. Parked along the tank was a quad. I noticed two fellas next to their quad and decided to ask how their hunt has been going. On the quad is a cross bow. One large guy stepped between me and the quad trying to hide his cross bow. We had some small talk, but i never mentioned to him about the cross bow. There were no other bows on the quad. I left, and as soon as i did, they started up the bike, and hauled off. I got his plate# just in case. Are they allowed for the physically challenged? However none of these guys showed any symptoms of physical complainant, beside being overweight. Just wondering
