Browning (Beretta) B80 12 gauge questions

The dram and shot weight is more important then the fps. It just happens that most of the faster loads have higher dram. Look for 3 to 3 1/4 dram and 1 1/8 oz shot. A load like this should be pushing 1300 fps anyhow, but the velocity has nothing to do with how a gas gun will handle it. They make a 7/8 oz super speed Winchester dove load with a low dram that goes 1350 that I guarantee you won't cycle through a B80

Browning (Beretta) B80 12 gauge questions

It should run most 1 1/8 oz loads. If its still picky then try the super handicap AA's. My brother had a B-80 for a while, nice gun, its actually a beretta 303 or 301 if I remember right.

    Case identification?

I've got a bunch of ammo in that caliber and only one rifle to run it through! They had spam cans of 1080 for $129 awhile back and I got a bunch of em! Lets just say I could hold down the fort for a while with 5.45!
  7. Haha. Small world, I think I just drove by ya. Here was a bunch of tankers rolling out of the power fuels lot on the east side of Stanley right at 6:00! I need to get my CWt Stivker on my pickup!
  8. I got a Montana deer tag again this year Bob! We'll have to hook up and head out there. I killed a 145" whitetail out there last year on a weekend trip. We had elk/deer combo tags last year so it was $1k for both, which isn't too bad for all the opportunity you get. I just got a deer tag this year as I drew AZ and NM muzzy bull tags so my elk kill gland is gonna be pretty satisfied hopefully!

    Opening morning ND tom

I'm living in a new part of ND after my 4 years in AZ. This is my first tag in the new area. Checked out a piece of public river bottom I found on google earth the night before and found a Tom and four hens. Put them to bed that night and was surprised to not find anyone there this morning. Set up about 250 yards across a little field from them before light with my fiancé. This was her first experience with turkey hunting. The birds flew down and instantly quit gobbling. I called a few times and noticed them feeding our way. I wasn't set up well as all of my turkey decoys and turkey loads were back at my hunting cabin in central ND so I was using an elk diaphragm call instead and no decoys! I didn't even have shells so I scrounged a 2 3/4" #6 pheasant load and a couple 3" BB steel goose loads out of the tool box of the pickup that morning. Turns out I didn't need much because as they fed closer the started flanking by at about 80 yards. I turned the calling up a notch and got the lead hen all worked up. They walked by about 2 yards in front of us and the gobbler was about 12 yards out. When I moved to put the gun on him he lifted his head on cue. My 2014 season was done in about 15 min!!! He has 2 eight inch beards, first time I've ever seen two beards that are this full. Didn't have a chance to weigh him unfortunately. I actually think he's a Merriams. ND has both eastern a and Merriams, and I think most of our turkeys are a interbreed of the two. We had a little time to kill so we took our pups for a shed hunting hike, didn't find any sheds but we did run into a bull moose that still had a horn. He had a pretty small home range from what I could see so maybe we can get back in there once he drops the other side and find em.

    spotting scope or 15x56s

15's aren't the best for elk. It depends on where you're hunting though. If you're trying to penetrate shadows to glass a bedded bull in a late Hunt in 23 or 27 etc then maybe, but for getting on a big hill and picking up ruttjng elk in the cedars 10's will find you more elk and a spotter will help you judge them better. Then you gotta look at what you're after. If its your first archery hunt and you're just looking for a branch antlered bull you'll be able to make that decision through your tens. If you have a early rifle tag and need to know if the last 3" is chipped off a bull at two miles then you'll need a spotter.

    Which Scope for ML

I had a buddy who out one on his muzzy. It was a CVA so we never got it to actually go off enough times to test it out. (Stay AWAY from CVA's and traditions guns!!!). It wasn't very clear an had really bad edge distortion but I think the reticle was a sound concept.

    NM back door open

So when I put in the landowner deer tag it lets me put it in my cart. So that might be good news for you guys! I put in for the 2 units for deer so I very likely didn't draw. I put that I wanted a refund if I didn't draw a tag and it's showing that I purchased a tag on 4/19/2014, it even lets me go in to print it off. This may mean I drew something, although if the "backdoor" really works, I didn't draw oryx, ibex, barbary or deer since I tried those and it let me add them to my cart. Potentially I drew elk or antelope then?

Shot new arrows, not what I expected ?

If you're getting accuracy out of the straight fletched ones then stick with it. If you have a bow that is slightly out of tune then helical will stabilize it quicker but it comes at a cost. That centrifugal force he is talking about doesn't come from nowhere, it robs energy from the arrow thus causing the change in trajectory. It also makes them louder in air.

It's the helical. More drag. It matters.

    Is 20 gauge 3" enough?

You may want to double check the legality of that gun since it has a rifle built in. My dad used to have one in 222/20ga. It was the ultimate turkey gun in SD as rifles are legal. They hang up at 150, flip it over to 222 and smoke em. But in az that may not be a legal weapon.
