Quail are 1000x better than pheasants. Big smelly ugly invasive birds. My dog loves to chase em or I’d only shoot them out the window of the pickup. I’ve never understood people who travel all the way to the Dakotas in the fall to shoot 3 roosters and be done for the day. That being said, I was raised here and they are what I’m used to. Some people probably think I’m crazy for traveling to chase elk!

My little lab puts in 100% effort on the pheasants and partridge year round up here in ND. She gets a 2 mile hike every day, the same stuff I walk when I’m pheasant hunting in the fall. Pheasants have her figured out and just sneak out before she gets there now. Need a new crop of dumb ones as we killed all the dumb ones last fall/winter. You can’t tell someone they can’t walk a dog on a place where they can legally walk a dog and you can’t tell a dog not to get birdy and flush a bird.

Interesting and probably true. I’ve built loads around a 5 shot group that was .4 moa only to shoot it a month later and it’s 1.1 moa so I do agree with what they’re saying. I build all my loads based on ES of velocity. That’s the one they left out that REALLY matters. A 1 moa rifle with an ES of 7 fps is much much better at 1000 yards then a 0.25 moa rifle with an ES of 30 fps.

Seems like that’s the best place for the projects to be 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wasn’t saying that. Just saying they’ll add a hunt in the strip as soon as the auction guys get done with their tags. They will need to do a bunch of these to replace the lost revenue.

Strip tags will come after they get rid of auction tags. These will replace the auction tags at the expense of more animals killed, but a remote chance for everyone that buys them vs a single high dollar buyer.

Is this still available?

They’ve done this for atleast one year, may even be two years now. I think twice a year they do it. They’ve changed up the dates and the units a bit but the idea has been around a couple years

My wife does all kinds of meals like this. Way way better than the commercial meals they sell. Doesn’t give you the trouser chilies near as bad either.

Appreciate it! This thing was insane with ticks. Like thousands. Made an effort. Wasn’t good enough though I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️. It won’t be my last trip so if I kill a euro buck I may have a cape in the future, but I also bet it won’t be the last one they take so I figure if someone has a good one and I can get the mount rolling that would be the best.

You hear a lot of people say “I had a Jeep once” and that’s usually just about enough times for those that are sane. I am among those as well. The only redeeming quality of that POS is that some other guy was willing to pay what I was dumb enough to pay for it.

Just wait for it. You are correct, they probably won’t be Gov type tags but expect a Utahish type deal where premium tags in every unit are available in a side pot for raffle. Mark my words. I’m actually all for it. I think using 1-2 or 5 animals to drum up a premium will always produce more than it costs the resource. Also I was never going to be able to afford to buy a tag at an auction so the more I can buy raffles for the better.

That’s a good point. If they could continue the raffles via the banquets that would really get people excited. My guess is they’re gonna switch to many more raffle tags to replace the funding from the auction tags. I bet that’s why they were testing the water with those special allocation tags last year. I’m all for any of that type of raffle where you can raise way more money then a particular tag is “worth”.

I would counter and say that there’s always more people there bidding then the winner. You might be surprised how many people are there that are watching to see if it sells for less then expected. I’ve sat in on several banquets with hopes of getting a tag for a little less than I expected it to go (which would be out of my budget). I would also argue that watching those tags sell is a major draw in those banquets. It’s not gonna be a 50% drop but it’s gonna be a drop in attendance for sure.
