I looked into dumping my points on that hunt some years back but ended up with a conflict due to elk hunting so I didn't pull the trigger. Always wanted to do a high country backpack hunt like that, good luck with it! I've got 12 points now so I'm holding out for a 4th season rifle tag of some sort but will likely try that high country thing once I burn my points. I don't have much advice for you on the iron sights thing, its a tough deal, my bro missed a 190+ buck at 100 yards last year with an iron sighted muzzy in unit 201, wouldve been a slam dunk with a scope!

Maybe next time you should try a Ford Taurus

Boo... no email for me...

How did you guys figure out if you drew? I went online and it still says "pending".

I've got a couple cams I wanna sell, one Bushnell with IR flash, uses 4AA's, it's small, kinda looks like my coverts, supposedly the batteries last a long time like the coverts too, but I cant vouch for it since I only put it out once for week last fall in NM. I think it's a 5MP, I'd take $60 for it. I also have a 3MP Tasco that has a normal flash and uses 4 C batteries. This one I used for a month or so last fall. I'd take $45 for it. I'd take $100 for both. Let me know, out of town till next weekend but could get picks then. Thanks

Shot down for everthing in Utah and Nevada here, also shot down for Colorado elk deer and sheep. I guess my lucky streak had to end! Congrats to everyone who got drawn!

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad world...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-vUYeJXSrA I found it on youtube, for those of you who wanted to hear it. Sounds to me like the guy was purposely trying to piss off a cop in order to make the tape. Doesn't make the cop any less at fault, but instantly raises flags with me as to whether I should feel bad for this guy or not. -
PM'd ya, will take the T/C contender

I'll take second dibs if it falls through!

Did you flip the switch to "on"? Sorry, not to sound like a prick, but the screen on the remote won't come on until you turn the unit on.

I think they have those at Sportsmans on sale for 69 bucks, but it could be wrong. I have one 5MP bushnell and it's a POS...

Took my wall tent out for its maiden voyage this weekend. I've got a cabelas one with a tent material type floor in it but I can see already that it'd be nice to have some type of flooring in it. I'm looking for some ideas, perhaps someone is got new carpet and has some chunks of the old stuff left? Not looking to cover the whole floor I don't think, just because it'd be tough to haul that much around, but maybe a couple small pieces for entry way/sleeping area? Any other ideas out there? I looked on craigslist for remnants, but they want more money for the little chunks then you can have someone come and lay the stuff for! Thanks in advance!

Well my lucky streak continues! I called to see if I drew any leftover antelope tags (put the two hopi hunts for first and second choice) and I drew a Camp Navajo archery antelope tag! Anyhow, I looked up the stats and it appears that they've only killed two out of there in the past 7 years or so, with most years people not even hunting. I was in there last year in October trying to get my friend a cow during the muzzleloader hunt and didn't see much for good antelope country. I do understand that they're in the ponderosas in that country though. Anybody tried this hunt or seen any while in there elk hunting? It looks like you can only scout 2 weeks prior, that's gonna make it tough, and you can't leave blinds out over night either. This could be tricky! Any advise is welcome as I know there's only a small number of people out there who've hunted the depot, let alone for antelope! Thanks!

Hey I appreciate the info from all of ya! I didn't hunt the limited area with my buddy since he had a muzzy tag last fall. I think I will be able to hunt it if I get all the paperwork filled out and have my commander sign off. Not sure on the protocol on that since I've never had an archery tag in there. Do they allow trail cams in there? I doubt that they do, looks like it's gonna be a kinda non traditional antelope hunt for sure. Thanks again for the info!

I got my antelope check in the mail today but no tag for elk yet. If my memory serves me the tags usually show up before the refunds, or am I wrong on that? Anyone get "the" envelope yet!?
-
that was MY tag!!!! when did you mail your app?!? Just curious! I haven't called yet, maybe I got one of the other ones! I mailed mine friday morning.

It will show up later. Maybe a month from now. -
This raises a question I've always had... If it's only legal to hunt with a gun that holds 5 shells here in AZ, does that make all of the old tube feed leverguns illegal? Sorry to change the topic, you'll get a few bumps to top out of it though!

That's awesome! A turkey with a bow is quite an accomplishment! Congrats.

I was blessed to have last weekend turn out to be a pretty good one for me! Saturday found me out checking some new country out, with bow, shotgun, and AR all in tow in case I happened upon an opportunity! Well I spotted a herd of muleys from the truck about a half mile out, a quick look indicated a small buck running them so I couldn't resist it. I made a quick stalk and found myself right in the middle of them, got within 30 yards and made a so so shot due to him jumping the string. It was a little far back but must've found an artery in the liver because he went down after only 50yards. I put another one through his shoulder and he was done. It's my first desert muley, and first muley with a bow! I'm a little bummed to be done in AZ for the year, but now I can concentrate on elk next fall (confidence going into the draw is a good thing right?!?). I hunted all day sunday for Javelina, trying to put my tag on one of these things has eluded me for the past two winters. Nada on sunday, but fortunately I had monday off! I bumped into this lone pig at around 9am and sent a Rage through her (turned out to be a good sized sow). Just got done enjoying an omelette full of javelina breakfast sausage, and whoever says these things aren't good to eat doesn't know what they're missing. Also, I looked it up for my girlfriend, they are NOT rodents, but in the same lineage as hippos and pigs, a LOONG ways from rodents. Not that I care, I like rabbit which is a rodent!! I gotta thank ruthunter and desertbucks for there advice on how to get out in the desert and get after stuff! I owe you guys big time! Anyhow, it was a good weekend, time to buy some new arrows and start getting ready for that bull elk tag!!!

Here's a sweet deal, not sure if Coach is actually selling this or just wondering what it's worth, but this would be a dang nice set-up for your buddy if he's a 28.5. Also, if I remember right from my days working in a proshop in college, this one has modules for draw that can be swapped out. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24473&pid=249346&start=0entry249346

I would stick with a reputable name for bows, Mathews, Hoyt or Bowtech. G5 makes good broadheads, but they are relatively new to the bow market, and their quadcam design thing has been tried by a lot of companies before them with minimal success. I would find a good used bow from one of the three makers above and spend your money on gas towards scouting! As far as calls go, don't fret about them, get an el cheapo cow call and then take the lanyard off, attach it to your rangefinder and practice with your bow some more at all ranges, you can throw the call away That's the best advice anyone will tell you! If the bulls are talking, get the wind right and get in front of them, lean up against a ponderosa and let em have it as they walk by...
