    Super Sunday San Carlos

Did you you happen to see the plane that came down to the water and ran his wheels across the surface? Thought it was pretty neat. Brian Yeah!!!! I thought it was a seaplane and then I busted out the swaro's and figured I best be getting ready to go put my first responder training to use!!! It's beyond me how that wouldn't rip those tires off! The greeb's were sure putting on a show! I brought my DSLR and telephoto lens only to realize I left the memory card at home I was in a white inboard ski boat set up half arse for fishing... you probably heard me yelling across the lake as my dog double over my $150 jigging rod just shy of enough to break it! I may try it next weekend, you gonna hit it again?

You must be a WAY better fisherman than I am! We got skunked! Didn't stay long near the flotilla, tried a few other spots and went home empty handed!

    2010 was good to me!

Well 2010 was an awesome year for me! I was able to steal away from dental school to do enough hunting to keep me more then satisfied. I was blessed with an AZ archery antelope tag this year. I think the scouting was more fun then the hunting for sure! I had a run in with a true monster that I had been watching for a month when he bedded 83 yards from my blind on opening day. I didn't want to risk the shot with a cross wind, and assumed he'd nap and come for a drink. Well after a 3 hour siesta he woke up and walked the other way, then the rain came! I later heard he was killed in a firearm hunt and scored 86+". Wish my arrow would've done him in. I ended up with a heavy buck that would make anyone proud though, that grossed at 79 2/8"s having only 14" horns but excellent mass. I then went on to NM for a muzzleloader elk hunt. They were all but done bugling, and I was new to the area, so it was a bit of a challenge. I really had high hopes for a big boy, but ended up shooting my first 6 pt. bull through the ribs at 250yds on the last day, definitely not a bad day in my opinion! I went back to NM to a completely new area that I wanted to check out for elk with a muley tag in my pocket. I had heard stories of big big deer in this area but not many. Boy were they right! I only saw one deer during the daylight on the whole trip, but it happened to be my best ever muley! One shot with my 7mm STW and he was down. He was 24 1/2" on the inside (probably 27-28 outside?) and had 26" beams. He ended up rough grossing at 176"! All of these hunts were on my own, DIY hunts, I really enjoyed getting away from school, and learning the new places. I spent hundreds of hours on forums, google earth, mapping software, etc to make it all happen, but it was worth every bit of effort. I've also got a freezer full of dang good meat. I will say I was skeptical of these desert antelope and their meat, but that buck was every bit as good as the alfalfa and corn fattened bucks back in North Dakota! I've got one Coues hunt left, so I'm hoping to pull of a slam of sorts by nailing a nice coues buck, but will definitely not be dissappointed if I don't shoot another animal this year!

    Lasik Surgery

Looking for advice on lasik... Anyone have it done, how does it affect you in hunting situations (i.e. glassing, night vision etc)? Any recommendations for someone in the valley, preferably NW (Glendale area) but not necessarily. Hate glassing with glasses on, and my contacts dry out to bad when I'm glassing all day!

    Hunter Ed Bonus Point

I've been meaning to take the online course and schedule a field day for over a year now and keep putting it off. Anyhow, I noticed there is a field day in Safford this weekend, it would be worth the 3 hour drive to me if I could get another point this year in time for the draw. What I'm wondering is how long does it take before it shows up to the G and F that you've taken it? If it takes a few weeks then I may as well wait for a closer field day since I won't need the point till Deer and Sheep draw in June. Anyhow, my own fault for not getting it done this time last year!!! Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hunter Ed Bonus Point

What's the difference between the NR class and the online class and field day? My brother is gonna fly down this spring and take one, would like to know which one is better for him to take? Thanks

    Hunter Ed Bonus Point

so more or less when they update your points for getting turned down (which I probably will!) then they give you another? So if I took it in say April I wouldn't get another elk point in the '12 draw because it wouldn't get updated until March of '12? If that's the case then I need to take it before March of '11 to get another point in the '12 elk draw... Hopefully they update all species after every draw?

    .264 Winchester Mag loads?

It shot right up until I started using them. Not saying that it wasn't close, just warning the guy not to use them in a gun that may be in the same state as my barrel was. I have no reservations about rebarreling a 700, but if it was a pre-64 model 70, it'd be a different story. If there were any real benefit to using them (I know all of the "benefits" of moly, I'm talking boots on the ground, real benefits worth potentially wrecking your rifle over) then it would be worth it. I would just shy away from them in this case as there are so many other awesome options out there for it. My $0.02

    .264 Winchester Mag loads?

be careful with moly bullets! I had a 70's vintage Mod 700 in .17 rem that I was in love with growing up. It shot wayyy sub MOA and knocked off more then it's share of ND jackrabbits, yotes and even a few deer. Anyhow, I decided to try moly bullets in it and they began to keyhole. I did a little research and found out that it was because they were so slick they were missing the rifling (probably almost washed out anyhow) well after extensive cleaning and switching back to non moly bullets, it never shot again (with that barrel). It would keyhole every shot from there on out. I will never shoot a moly bullet again. Perhaps there is research/experience out there that might say different, but I would never use them in an awesome vintage gun like yours. It's not worth risking the barrel IMO.

    Coues rut?

Where'd you find "BIG" whitetails in Minnesota? From what I know about Minnesota you have a better chance of killing a 120"er here in AZ!

Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country

I don't know if they made different runs of these tires or what, but I've either heard really good or really bad about them. I, unfortunately, ended up with bad ones! I've got barely 10k on them and they are trashed, the lugs just shred on any rocks, and they look weather checked already, I've only had them since July!!! Anyhow I would NEVER EVER buy another set of Duellers, at $230 a crack for standard sized 17" I hoped for a little more out of them, they are gonna barely make it through this season, and will for sure need to be replaced by before next fall. Not impressed.

And this comes from a hunting magazine...

That's bad wording there! My family back in ND applied to help with this but didn't get drawn. Glad they're finally addressing this issue though.
  25. Hey Guys (n' Gals) I have been searching high and low to try to find the hours for quail and other small game. The nearest I can find is that small game seasons are open "during daylight hours" whatever that means. In my home of ND upland game was from 1/2 hour before sunrise to sunset, very simple and concise. The only thing I could find in AZ was for dove, which is obviously a federal season and obviously follows the same 1/2hr before to sunset. I'm really curious because it's so dang hot out there that extra half hour in the evening would sure be nice, but I'm afraid to shoot past sunset for fear I'm breaking the law. Any thoughts? Thanks
