One of my best Muley’s I owe directly to having this. I was driving out for the day and he was needed behind a lava flow about 50 yards from private on one side and National monument on another side. I had ONX rolling at the time, glanced at it to make sure I was cool and dropped him right in the corner of the BLM I was on. Would never have had the balls to shoot that deer otherwise.

Just get it for your phone. I won’t go into the field without it. Even when hunting in AZ where it’s mostly public I still don’t feel comfortable without it. When hunting in states with higher private land ownership, I rank it more important then my binos. Just behind my tag and my rifle!!

It’s without question a post-64. The pre-64 had controlled round feeding which had the Mauser looking metal extractor claw running the length of the bolt. Can’t miss it. They went to the push feed bolt like this one after 64.

Trying to come up with a load for my 7mm STW for muskox and bison and looking for some of these. They are out of stock everywhere I can find them listed. Any one have some they could part with?

Go with Kuiu. They’re all similar gear but the direct to consumer model they use keeps the price much much lower.

Hunter recruitment is actually down. License sales are up however. It’s just a little game the state agency’s are playing as Pittman Robertson money is divied out based on license sales numbers. Notice how a lot of states now sell you a combo fishing/hunting license? That’s because they get you with two checks on their numbers then. Also a majority of states now requires NR to purchase a hunting license to apply. This is to also increase the license sales numbers. I am counted as one hunter, but I buy licenses in 11 different states each year, most of which are fishing hunting combo licenses so that counts me as 22 different “sportsman” if you just go off license sales.

Not quite. During the first round bonus pass, if person has 10 points and 12ae takes 15, they have no chance at it, if their second choice is 35 and that takes six, then they get the tag. The random draw part hasn’t even occurred yet thus they never ever had a “hail Mary” for the 12ae tag.

There’s a 28 nosler browning that just came up for sale. Buy that. You can kill anything in the country with it and it’ll shoot just as good as a CM.

13a rifle or bust for me. I’ve got Utah and Nevada muley tags, muskox in Alaska, and Wyoming bison so it’s the first time in my entire life where I didn’t put a more realistic 2nd choice but I literally can’t make another tag fit this year. Unless it’s 13a rifle

You can always go south in that unit. The coues aren’t “pockety” in the southern part. Easier to glass so you’ll see coues deer. If you’re looking for a giant or bust, then you can hunt up in the pines but you’re gonna be up against a pretty big task. Most of the big coues that come from the pines are either killed over salt or atleast found on a cam over salt and then glasses for. If you won’t be around to run cams you’ll be better served to drop down into the desert in my opinion.

I ordered a Daniel defense blackout with a 9” barrel and pinned suppressor to make it legal. Won’t see it till this fall but it should be fun!

We bought a chest freezer at Walmart for $190. Cheaper then most good coolers. Run it with a 2000 watt Honda. Then I don’t have to idle my truck all day. It doesn’t do fridge but like they said you can freeze jugs and rotate them through your coolers. Haven’t been on a camping hunt without it in the last 10 years.

You can kill a bull like that in any unit in AZ. Pick one you can get to easily and scout, draw it and go hunting.

Essentially it just takes the refuges ability to manage their own refuge and puts it in the hands of the state. It has good and bad points. The Charles M Russell NWR in eastern Montana has always had the deer season close two weeks earlier then the Montana state season to give the bucks a chance to rut. They also prohibited doe harvest as they didn’t think the population was at management objective. This bill “aligned” the refuge with state regs thus crushing the one remaining public land area in eastern Montana with decent muley hunting. It’s not all roses.

Congrats Bob! This will make an even 20 for me for deer and elk. The one state I’m hoarding them in for some reason!! Too much going on for me. NV and UT primo deer tags for me and Alaska muskox and WY buffalo so my fall is tapped out!!!

I drew that one in Montana last year! Not complaining! Draws have been very very good to me over the years, I am just impressed with your point portfolio!! I got into the game a little late to ever force draw on top tier tags anywhere so I’ve focused on 4th-5th tier type hunts across the west and have gotten pretty lucky along the way! Good luck with the deer draw. I think you’ll have a lot of fun either way!
