Interesting insight. I think we are all on the same page. It really sounds like we mostly have the same opinions on it. I plinko'd my 15 SLC's down through a rock pile last year on a NM elk hunt. It was my fault. Didn't tighten the pistol grip clamp screw. I sent them in and they replaced the lenses, $250. I think that's fair since I broke them. Would it have been free if they were kaibabs? Likely. Am I willing to go back to kaibabs in this stage of my life? Nope. My only compliant was they took 6 weeks. I was really frustrated with that.

This can't be for real.

Time for some Binocs. So... 8x or 10x... and Why?
yotebuster replied to azcoyote's topic in The Campfire
You're on the right track. 8's for sure for off hand glassig. I actually have 6.5's and 7's for my neck binos. 10's are a sorry compromise between a good hand hold bino and a good tripod bino. If you aren't carrying a tripod then 8's are the absolute highest I'd go. If they're for hand holding and tripod mounting and you can only afford one pair, then get 10's. -
What's the deepest snow you have called fox in?
yotebuster replied to Presmyk's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Sounds like a lot of work. I'd go somewhere where there isn't 2 ft of snow. There will be fox there too. -

Rage 3-blade broadhead SUCK!?!?!
yotebuster replied to AZ_Native's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
+1 IT is impossible for them NOT to open, by design. As far as broken blades, in my opinion if a blade hits something so hard it's going to break it, it's also gonna slow the arrow so much your penetration is gone, so I'd prefer that blade break off to save the penetration. A non broken blade that stops at the shoulder is much less effective then a one bladed arrow that makes the vitals in my opinion. -
Daaaaang.

Rage 3-blade broadhead SUCK!?!?!
yotebuster replied to AZ_Native's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have lost a turkey and the biggest whitetail of my career (found him two weeks later) as well as a double lunged bull elk that went 1 mile and required 4 follow up shots with rage 3 blades. I can't put my finger on why, they just didn't die quickly?!? I switched to the 2 blades and have had nothing but good luck. Weird I know and totally anecdotal evidence, but that was enough for me to switch. -

Early Kaibab vs Late desert Muzzleloader vs 3A/C
yotebuster replied to DesertBull's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I still have yet to see a pic from this year of a really big 3c buck. Seems like a great place for a 160-170 buck but that's a lot of points to dump on a buck of that size. That kid and dad that I saw pics of both shot nice bucks that have to be pushing 170 but beyond that it looks like a ton of young 150-160 bucks are shot in there. For as many as you see come out of there I haven't seen a really big one yet either. Seems like even the OTC units turn out an occasional giant and certainly the kaibab. -
Why do those guys looked so pissed? Lotta bonus points and money to spend not to crack a smile. I'd be smiling like a pig in sh!t with a coues like that, but that's just me I guess.

Nice work! I think you've got yourself a redhead hen laying on the tailgate there as well. -
You could stumble upon a big ol Muley up in the pj's or a monster coues along the canyon in 4a, but you're setting yourself up for a skunkin if you hunt up there. If you're looking to just see deer and get a chance at some stalks I'd look lower. Any of the units in the 20's will get you plenty of opportunities to see some bucks and lots of chances to make stalks. There's a chance of a monster in 4a but a much better chance of not seeing much other then elk!

I'll take the scope. Pm inbound.

Wow. Didn't realize how much these went up in value. We have 3 of them. One of mine is my tractor gun. Got it for $125 in 2001. It was beat to heck and is beat worse now. It's killed hundreds of skunks coons fox and coyotes.
