Does the 375 Ruger have a place in AZ?
yotebuster replied to khmer6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If they open a burro season I'm gonna be getting something way bigger then s .375 for them!!!! I'm thinkin 50 bmg would be just about perfect!! -
I was just hoping they had the wrong number for me and couldn't get ahold of me last night....

Murph is calling me names now. That is a bit hypocritical after your rant the other day. I've attached a link with the definition of that one since I know it's over 2 syllables. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocritical

NEW Ruger Precision Rifle .243, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308
yotebuster replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It looks and has the ergonomics of an ar15 but isn't semi auto. Seems like a guy would just be better off with an AR platform and you won't have to bolt it? Interesting concept for sure. -
I would look into the cheap cotton game bags you can get at any sporting goods store. I've heard lots of people use old pillow cases but in my opinion they're too small and too thick for use for game. Open knit will release heat more then the tight knit in a pillowcase. The second reason is I just don't like the idea of my deer meat being up against someone's nasty head grease. That's just me, I know you can bleach them and clean them well but for what you pay for them at goodwill you can just buy them at cabelas.

So sorry to hear about that bob. Looks like those two dogs lived a charmed life. That's the best thing you can ever do for them is love them and let them live and run in the desert or prairie.

That's funny. I know If I were a criminal I'd way rather come up against a little .380 or even a 9mm then a gravedigger tipped Easton!!

I think the best question to ask is what size bullet do I want to throw at a given critter. Then get your cartridge from there. If you want to send 200 gr bullets down range then get a .30 cal as that's gonna optimize the ballistics for that bullet. 120gr then get a .25 cal. I'm not sure what kinda bullets they running out of the .375 but I'm guessing it's a short fat 250 or 270 gr. in that case you'd be better off with a .338 cal in my opinion. This is all speaking from ballistics only, if you wanna shoot something with a .375 just for cool factor then by all means get one! I just bought a .350 rem mag from Curtis and plan to shoot a whitetail with it just cuz. Is it the optimum caliber. Nope. Will it pile drive a deer. Yep! -
If I'm not mistaken this was the 2014 auction tag holder so he only had until aug 15. I woulda been getting a little nervous and wouldn't want to take it much further down to the wire. This bull may have added a 1/2" to length but woulda probably lost it in mass as the horns dry down so I'm sure it's a horse apiece. I'm thinkin I woulda went ahead and shot him!!! What an awesome bull! Congrats to the A3 crew and the hunter on this one!! Maybe I'll pull the raffle tag this year and that'll be me next summer!!

I would like to see that if you still have them. Thanks Here you go. Tough little guy. I guess it was June, not July, but still a long time to be cruising around with an arrow in your neck. Dart, man. You've got a f'ing dart in your neck.

That's not selfish. He's gonna have an awesome hunt in 3a/3c with a chance for a nice buck as well. I don't know for sure about outfitters as I've never been lucky enough to have to research them, I hope you have to!!

I finally got them out to 225yds. I have a leupold scope on it with drop compensation for slugs. Turns out to be off by about 6" at 200 but a little testing got me solid hold marks at 50,100,150,175,200,225. Even though these are one of the fastest slugs out there, they still shoot a rainbow! According to published ballistics they hold above 1000 ft/lbs to 200 yds. Seems like I read somewhere that 1000 ft/lbs is considered minimum lethal for elk, so it should be real similar for a shiras moose. Was able to get this group at 225. Pretty happy with that accuracy considering the trigger on the shotgun is pretty crappy. Also my curiosity got the best of me and I tore into one of them. The bullet is actually brass jacketed. They likely won't expand much as the brass is hard as heck but at .62 cal I don't think I want them much bigger!!

Looking to get a group together for duck season

Probably about the same as buying them new. Most of these are older and in mediocre shape so I think you'd be better buying new. You can get a dozen hot buy mallards for $30 I think. -
Ugh. Just bought one from Curtis!!! Maybe I need two?!?

Wow! Awesome buck!!

Wish you were closer to ND. I just cleaned out my garage and I have wayyyy to many decoys, waders etc. If they weren't so bulky I'd ship em down that way. -
Good lord. Those are some big bass!
-
I'm a thinkin that one would do just fine!! I think he's pretty tall too. The heavy ones never look as tall as the skinny ones. That one has sick top mass, even if he were short in length that would make up for that in a hurry.

I agree with pursuit on the learning curve but take it a step farther. We shoot 500-600 ducks a year in ND and have been for 25 years and I've never owned a duck call, and never will. Duck calls work really good for call manufacturers and that's about it. Widgeon make a lot of noise so a whistle will help with them, but short of that they just provide something to do to further flare ducks that already weren't interested. Spend your money on gas and vacation time instead of calls. You'll kill way more ducks. -

12 cheap mallard decoys, a box of 3" # 3's and a shotgun. Don't get a call just yet, it's kinda like a kid learning to downhill ski and they don't give them poles, it'll just hurt you or someone around you! -
I had a pair of the 8x slc's and sold them almost instantly after buying them. I couldn't get used to the forward positioned focus wheel. I actually ended up buying an el cheapo pair of 6.5x vortex's that I really like. I even set them up with a tripod mount so I can glass close with them. I would make 8x your max power personally if you have 15's. 10 is a good compromise power but if you have 15's already is go with 7 or 8 x for your neck Binos.

Good to hear you made it back Bob! I can see ND is growing on you! (Jk). Have you ever looked into the Allegiant flights from Minot to Mesa? When I was living down there it was $120 or so round trip and was a 2.5 hr direct flight. Made trips back and forth pretty easy. I know the minot airport is a goat rodeo but the ticket price is cheaper then gas from Carlsbad to az. We haven't seen much slowdown in Williston. It got a few bad apples out of here and allowed a catch up on the road construction and housing. This slow down has been the best thing to happen to the Bakken if you ask me. Did you get a Montana deer tag this year? I've found some decent areas just across the border. Not the quality of bucks as in ND but at least the tags are otc.
-
Have you killed anything with them prdator? They're supposed to be bonded. Not a lot of bullet selection out there for slugs I guess but they outdo everything else in velocity, energy, and they shoot good so I guess they'll have to do. I'm gonna roll around the farm here and see if I can't find some gophers to try them out on!

Got the Benelli all scoped up last weekend and ran a few down range. Put five into 2.5" or so at 100 which blows me away. Gonna take her out to 200 this weekend and see how it does. Pretty impressed with this thing!
