Checking rifles zero at camp.

depends on where I am hunting, but I often take shots in the middle of the day to ensure I am at zero (or 700)..... -
Phil will be back and DD will still be the #1 rated show.....

I use 12x50 and spotter (Leica 66). I constantly switch between the two, see a deer in the shade or tree, throw on the spotter. A ring tail cat, throw on the spotter.... see a buck, throw on the spotter..... My setup allows me to switch between the two and almost have the same frame in my spotter..... the key is to make it quick and simple so you will want to put on your spotter. In the mid day, at times I will glass with the spotter and look under / in the trees, but it does strain the eye. Archery season its a little different as just about any buck goes.... I may leave the spotter, but its really not that heavy.

I have two pairs, one almost worn out. Great boot for rocky, cactus areas and when you need your feet and ankles protected. They make long hikes in the desert so much easier on my feet than Danners, Rocky or any other boots I owned. I used to replace my boots evey year.... Now get 3-4 years. However in bow season or when stalking they are stiff and hard to be quite, the same qualities that make them great hamper them) I prefer another book when archery elk hunting to keep the noise down.. (Like Under Armour....speed boot). -
had the same hunt, saw many bucks of the same size as yours (congrat by the way).... however the recent weather made the big boys move... glassed three big bucks this weekend but I choked and did not get a quality shot (missed in a rush). still had a great time with friends..... wished I had taken off the entire hunt

Fork... as a UA fan.... ASU had a great season this year....but has (historically) not lived up to expectations and have under achieved.... this year was different and as a UA fan hope its not the norm... .... there is no reason ASU has not built a dominate program year after year. .... in the end UA screwed ASU... ASU matched up better with Oregon and I think could beat Oregon, but since UA beat Oregon, Stanford won the North and smacked ASU....

With Colorado, UCLA, Oregon and Michigan on the schedule.... probably not too long.

both .... hunt in New Mexico for coues/mule deer..... never pass up an opportunity to hunt, life is short and precious.... we are so fortunate to have the right to hunt

come on lance. we thought you were smarter than that but oops I forgot, you are the guy that called the sundevil cheerleaders porn stars. I laughed at Lance's post, but he was not making it up.... but you probably didn't know about Mrs. Simpson.... who was sure fun to laugh at few years ago when I worked with a devote ASU fan.... This cheerleading scandal puts all the other ones to shame. Courtney Simpson, who grew up in a devout Mormon family, arrived at ASU in 2004 on a full academic scholarship and joined the cheerleading squad. However, by January, she wound up in the pornography industry - all while still at ASU. After her freshman year, she dropped out of ASU and moved to California but still wound up causing a huge controversy that involved ASU. That's because she appeared in a porno wearing her ASU cheerleader uniform, and she was featured on the video's box cover in the uniform as well. ASU looked into suing over the box cover, but her uniform was ultimately changed on the cover from ASU to USA. However, she does wear the ASU uniform in the actual movie. Simpson went on to appear in 250 pornos in under 2 years, so it's easy to understand why ASU didn't exactly want their name associated with her. Simpson is also unquestionably why the school came down so hard on the more recent ASU cheerleading scandal.

Coach Todd Graham inherited a bowl team. Rich Rod inherited a team that in his first year started 3 walk ons. Now all those seniors for ASU will leave the program (all recruited by Erickson). It will now be time to evaluate the coaches on their merits. ASU's end of season game finds them playing in the same bowl game UA played in 2009.... WOW
-
Haha funny thing part 3 I just read that the New Mexico bowl doesn't even want UA because their fans aren't willing to jump in the car and drive 6 hrs to watch them in a bowl game. Haha ASU got a nice bowl game in SD.... you going?

Allowing Foster to renter the game after being hurt was one of the worst coaching decisions I have seen in a long time. That kid was hurt and could barely move. I thought that only happened in the movies....James Boobie Miles- Friday Night Lights..... Way to go coach Graham..... Billie Bob

The football season cannot end fast enough this year, two games to go and probably a lowly bowl game. Denker is hard to watch and just isn't a big time QB ...give the kid credit.... I could never play any position as good as he does QB. The Arizona fans are terrible only 35,000 in attendance on a great day... if it makes any ASU fan feel better your team is peaking,UA is sinking,...and can win with your QB having a horrible game. It is great see UA Basketball just signed another 5 start recruit... all eyes are looking at the Michigan game (even though UNLV will be a good game)

very cool stuff there, thanks for sharing.

Vortex Razor,Bushell Elite 4200, and Leupolod Var III LR. There is no comparison in optic quality the Vortex is by far much better than the other two... HOWEVER, the Leupold is a great scope and weighs much less...the Bushnell eh.... Okay for the $$.

Made it back from New Mexico safe and sore.... a friend and I were fortunate to draw a 16B New Mexico rifle tag for the second hunt. For those that are not familiar with 16B, it is a completely wilderness area. After scouting trips in the summer we decided to hire a packer to pack our gear into the unit as doing it on foot would have been almost impossible. Our hunt started off with a major problem. We met our packer at the trail-head and exchanged the normal signatures and the rest of the money. Our packer provided a sheet of paper. On the paper there were two GPS coordinates, one was pointed out (some time goes by and we enter the coordinates into our GPS). We take off on foot ahead of the packer and arrive at the location (surprisingly never passed by the packer on horses). We could not find our gear, thankfully we rented a satellite phone from PHI Satellite Phone in Scottsdale (great person to deal with) and called the Outfitter. We were about 3 miles away from the correct location (this was after hiking just short of 4 miles)....it was now 2 pm and we had to double time it to the location our gear was at. In the Gila 3 miles on foot may as well be 50.... it is a long way. Getting to the area at dark, we had the hardest time finding our gear. We took minimal items.... no food.... and limited water as we expected a 3 hour hike.... now…. 9 hours later we were about out of gas, as luck would have it, we found our gear. I want to be clear, I am not totally blaming the packer for us ending up at the wrong location. HOWEVER I sure learned valuable lessons 1. walk with your packer to the location 2. review a detailed specific map of exactly where your gear is. 3. spend the extra $$ and ride in on horses. Now on to the hunt…..the weather was warm and we herd no bugles at night..... this was the second rifle hunt, we were not expecting to hear bugles......merely hoping to hear one or two. The first day came and went without seeing a single elk. The second day we hiked a ridge together and split up. I went towards a distant mountain... luckily bugling was herd mid-morning coming from the dark, nasty, burned side of the mountain. Glassing from the opposite ridge, I could not see the ground of the hill side the bull was bugling from. Slowly moving in, a cow was spotted about 90 yds away, with the rifle on the shooting sticks I caught movement, I could see a bull walking towards the cow, only seeing the 4ths and 5ths I made up my mind to shoot. Having a limited window to shoot, I touched the trigger and the 6.5 x 284 dropped the bull. I called the packer and I was met at camp two days later. We rode horses to the deboned bull and life was good. The horse packed the elk out (and I got to ride a horse there and back something I was not expecting so the Outfitter made up for the extra walking I did on the first day). Unfortunately my friend’s tag was unfilled because of a rifle mishap…. Thanks for reading.
