An interesting question for you all...

A buddy of mine had that hunt 2 years ago (6AS), he wanted a nice bull, he and I hunted on my bull hunt the year before in 3C so we both expected A LOT. First day had a smaller bull standing within 20 yds, he didn't shoot. Each day of the hunt he was into bulls, but something happened (wind, other hunters, shot was deflected off a branch, etc), the elk were not rutting like they were in 3C, I thought I was a champion elk caller as each day in 3C I would call in many bulls.....not so fast in 6A. He ended up not taking a bull. He complains today why he didn't take that opening day bull to get one under his belt. I would say if you have a chance at a bull that you are happy with, kill it. Keep in mind you got a bull tag, take a look at the number of cow tags there is going to be a lot of hunters. Its a bid unit and the elk do move a lot there. Good Luck, shoot straight and have FUN on the hunt. Redman

    Mojo needed for "Bear"

Tried to look at the FB page, but the link does not appear to be working. Hopefully that nasty disease can be knocked into remission and Bear will be just fine!

    lets pretend

Sorry...I live in the real world . and you should to! I choose the setup below because PSE is an awesome company to deal with....they have fixed 2 bows that I broke (dry fire and I pulled the string off the cam....)they took care of me each time. The draw on the EVO is so smooth. Mine is quiet as a church mouse, but I shoot a heavier arrow which will help any bow quiet down....its flinging a 460 grain arrow at 280 ish FPS (27.5 draw) I have a new 70Lbs EVO in skullz camo, 340 FMJ with 100 grain Wac Ems, Whisker Biscuit (had a QAD HD on my X-Force, WB just works!), Sure-Loc Hunter Specialty modified with a 3 pin head, PSE X Force quiver and with a Pete Shepley deuce stabilizer.... all probably would run over $1200 but had parts like you from my previous setup. There are many threads on archery talk on which rest for the EVO... Its feels like a dream to shoot! Redman
  9. There is no perfect system....just have to weigh the options available. Fortunately any changes to this system will have to go to the legislature, so the LO tags will always be available. I plan on saving the $85 bucks it takes to apply and in time buy a LO tag (instead of obtaining points with a draw system that award points). Everybody wins! Residents get more tags, one less application for the NR, landowner makes $$, and I will get to hunt our National Forest!

    Sick of the Arrogance

I suggest taking it up with the person directly....one could easily say remember the days before people ranted on-line.....
  11. Hmmm.. I agree.. We should switch to something like AZ... I have to buy a license $151 and I earn a point but for elk it might take 15 years to draw and for antelope it might take 20 years to draw... In NM you can draw the FIRST YEAR... IN AZ.. Not possible... be careful what you ask for... Hmm, I guess you don't HAVE to apply!? Amen J Lets see the tags that were available for me to draw just went down 40% as a non-guided hunter, sure there will be a snowball's chance in heck that a person can draw a tag the first year, the second year or the third year. Year after year the odds are no better and a person could apply forever and NOT be drawn. Yeah AZ's system does cost more for NR, but one knows a BULL elk tag after about 12 years of applying will be drawn.....a COW tag is much easier.... can I even draw a cow tag as a NR in NM? Its only a matter of time before a point system come to NM.... Great response fatfootdoc....thanks for pointing that out....very intelligent I never thought of that. Redman

  14. IMO its a bunch of crap that non-residents have to pay $85 to apply without a bonus point...

    UCONN!!!!!!!!!

Ya UCONN really "spanked" the UA....after all the game came down to the last tenth of the last second. Is it because the Bashful Bandit does not play nice with male nurses that ride rice burners.....is that why you hate Tucson

    You Decide...

No I'm not taking the replies the wrong way. I know some of these shots shouldn't have been taken. I never said hey guys check out this awesome video it's pretty funny. I simply ask if shooting animals at long range could be considered fair chase? Not if the guys were making bad shots or not. I'm sorry if the video offended a few of you but the only way to show how an animal reacts to getting missed at long range is to show an animal being missed at long range. I asked for people to watch the deers reaction and nothing more and clearly stated this. I want to know if people think a deer will react the same being shot at from 300 as it would from 500+ and what type of reactions they have noticed in their own experiences. If you have anything to say relating to how an animal reacts to being shot at at various distances please feel free to respond otherwise I'd appreciate it if people would stop high jacking this thread. Thanks! Its not rocket science...these are wild animals, the louder a noise is to them the more they will think they are in danger and their need to flee....it has nothing to do with fair chase

    You Decide...

Hunter X you are clearly taking the replies the wrong way...."IT IS ABOUT IF THESE GUYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKING THE SHOTS THEY WERE TAKING"???????????....WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IS IT MAKE IF THE SHOT IS 200 or 500 yds IF THE SHOOTER CAN ACTUALLY HIT THE FRICKING ANIMAL (in the kill zone), the animal is dead!!!! What is fair to you is unfair to me and vise versa...It just drives me crazy when other hunters get on their high horse and frown on other hunters....

    You Decide...

What's unfair is the fact I watched that video and didn't get to see one deer hit the dirt..
  25. Greetings, Debated even putting this up...what I have is a brand new / never assembled Youth Remington 20 gauge 870 express, purchased a few years ago at a Ducks Unlimited Banquet. I also have a Nikon Monarch 6.5 x 20 x 44 scope, great clear scope, but it has the 1/8 MOA which I am not a fan of. The scope has been used, and has a scratch on the end, but optically its perfect the link is the scope I have (http://www.lasc.us/RangingShotNikonMonarch.htm) I would like to get a scope in trade of similar quality and power, but a 1/4 MOA. Will trade both.... Let me know what ya got. Redman
