when is it going to be MY turn

Somebody get this man a TAG!!!! There are opportunities to hunt elk every year outside AZ, if not hunting is causing you so much pain, try another state, in just over 7 hours you could be hunting elk in Colorado (driving distance from FH) in an OTC area. Sure it will cost you about $400 (for bull) more and the size of elk are smaller....Idaho also has OTC..... Scratch that itch in another state...... Redman

    Tikka .25-06

I agree, but I may as well start with what has worked best for somebody else.....maybe I can get lucky! Redman
  4. Anybody out there shoot a Tikka .25-06 with factory ammo? I am just staring and was wondering which factory ammo that shoots better (at least I can start with). Redman

WHY I WON'T GO TO MEXICO

Its not even close!! Mexico is a sh*t hole....comparing the murder rate in Mexico to the US is ridiculous! On a daily basis police and other law enforcement are found dismembered in garbage bags with notes in Mexico..... Redman

    Turkey Hunting

I am not hunting but cannot wait to get out with my son. The snow/road situation has got me concerned, can anybody suggest a unit that WILL be open for the junior hunt? Redman

    New to Muzzleloaders

Go with Blackhorn, its more expensive, unless that extra 10-20 bucks will make you homeless......my friend shoots pellets and I shoot blackhorn, we got into a situation where multiple shots could be fired, he had to ram his sabot down the barrel by pushing his gun/ram rod against a rock (after two or three shots), I simply loaded mine as it was the first shot (not that it made a difference I still missed). Blackhorn is measured by volume. A small adjustable measurer can be purchased that allows you to measure powder in 5 grain increments. 5-10 grains can mean the difference between 8-10 groups to 2-4 inch groups. Never shot powerbelts, I shoot TC shockwave and with blackhorn I can shoot multiple times (5) without swabbing and groups hold tight. Redman

    Bleaching Skulls?

I use the regular peroxide and leave the skull in it for a few days until it gets really white. My last javillina I left in for about 4 days and its the whitest skull I have. I think I spent $7 dollars peroxide. I like the idea of using a trash bag to keep the volume down. I have also used brown shoe polish to color the antlers brown if the bottom gets bleached. Redman

    Late Season Bull Elk Hunt

Great story, sounds like a awesome time. Redman
  12. This year was my first hunting with a muzzle loader. After getting drawn in New Mexico for mule deer I purchased a used Thompson Center Omega and began to shoot. Finally settled in on Blackhorn 209, Thompson Center Sabots and Remington Primers I felt pretty good shooting out to 200 yds. A buddy and I hunted in New Mexico and both were fortunate to take a couple of nice mule deer. I had missed a few times but finally connected on the last evening of my hunt. Felling pretty good I put in for HAM hunt in AZ. Come Jan 1, I found a herd about 30 minutes after sun up...... but with no tag in my pocket, I had to sit and watch. I probably found 5 more herds in January and just knew I was not going to find a herd during the HAM hunt. I got back into town late last night and with only one day to hunt, I went out. Deciding to go where I was on Jan 1, I was fortunate to find the herd no further than 500 yds from where I had seen them in Jan and it was on. Got within 50yds and put the hammer down on this gal. Pretty fun thanks for reading. Redman
  13. Boil it.....that is what I just did with my Javillina skull.....and have done many deer heads that way also Redman
  14. Please offer suggestions, I currently have a 300WSM and looking for a deer rifle with less kick and one that is a flat shooter (will use factory loads) I really do not enjoy shooting the 300WSM due to the kick and knocking me off my aim (plus I flinch....yeah I'm a [you add the adjective]). My 300WSM does not have a muzzlebreak...wondering if I should install one and go from there. Couple of questions to go with your suggestions 1. What does a muzzlebreak cost to get installed (this comes into consideration if I should purchase a new rifle), any suggestion on where to get one installed? 2. Does a 7mm have noticeibly "less" kick than a 300WSM? Thanks for the suggestions. Redman

    new fish and game Gods

D-Bomb, I do not know you from Adam, can you really say that you did not know about the new requirement? If you did not, then the G&F officer handled it perfectly.....if you did and CHOSE not to have a sticker, then you need to step up and take responsibility for YOUR actions..... Yeah the sticker is b.s....but to ignore it and flame somebody for doing their job (who cut you a break) is irresponsible. Redman
  16. Nice, where did you purchase the ammo at? Redman
  17. Hi All, Thanks for all the help, I went with a Tikka T3 .25-06 and the thing shoots like a dream, the adjustable trigger is sweet. The kick is so nice, I love watching the bullet hit the target threw the scope. Plus ammo costs are reasonable for "custom" factory loads. Redman

January 2010... another one to remember!

I am sorry....I take offense to this thread ....and their wonderful success....not only do they put the smack down on great bucks....but they are making me envious....with only 1 more day that I can hunt in Jan, I could only wish to arrow A buck and would give my left pinkey to shoot one like those bucks.... Great pictures and great job! But January 2011 is a long time away (I have to make myself feel better somehow ) Redman

    Soup and Sandwich...

Thanks for sharing your story, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but there is a reason big bucks are far and few between, sometimes skill, effort and luck are ALL needed....sounds like luck eluded you. December hunts can be extremely overrated in the terms of size of antlers.....I wonder if the big 4x4 was killed by a hunter holding a left over tag? Like you said with something so highly anticipated there can be much disappointment. Redman
