  1. hunterdude, thanks for the reply, I found the problem, the trailer brake wire (blue) had a short in it. Got it working and trailer brakes (even with a pop up) are great! Redman
  2. Greetings, I have an 01 chevy silverado. I have not used a brake controller before, but know have a need to. I purchased a brake controller and wiring harness and hooked it up. There are four wires going to the brake controller. The black is hot all the time, the red gets hot when the brakes are pressed, but the blue wire does not get hot at the hitch (the controller says trailer not connected). I checked the blue wire under the hood (under the fuse box by the battery) and it is connected. All other lights work at the hitch (brake, turn, running and AC wire). Should the blue wire get hot at the hitch when the brake is pushed? Any help would would be helpful. Redman

    loose or pellets?

While I am new to ML, I have been doing a lot of research on powder and sabots. I have found nothing BUT GOOD things said about Blackhorn 209 powder. http://www.blackhorn209.com/ , in fact I cannot find a bad opinion on it other than the price. I also found an interesting sabot testing article: http://www.hpmuzzleloading.com/Technical.html. I am going to try the Dead Center 260 grain sabots (and others) http://www.prbullet.com/ Finally I am going to use Federal Primers. Redman

    Amazing Optic Finds

Be-aware......good deals can be found....but if it seems to good to be true, it probally is. I was going to purchase a pair of Swaro 10-42 el a year or so ago, but something did not seem correct, I called Swaro with the serial number and it was not valid ( I was sure I wrote it down correctly)...needless to say I did not buy. If the person has the receipt from a authorized vendor and it all checks out go for it! Redman

    Good Idea or Not

Anybody that is against the youth over the counter tag is a selfish ahole...plain and simple. Me and a couple of friends went hunting this weekend. One friend had his son, the other friend had his nephew, I went with my two sons (one 12 and the other 5), two youth hunter tagged out (my son did not) but we saw a ton of elk, deer, coyote and turkeys. It was a great time, my five year old saw many "Jedi Turkeys" and has been talking about it every day. Maybe its just me, but come on....it a dang turkey! Does any adult scout for a "record book turkey"? Redman

    need help with weight.

For deer I would say Easton Full Metal Jacket 400 (but they are costly). Redman

    need help with weight.

Using your draw length (keep in mind you are right on line for 340 or 400), if you go up in poundage you will be a 340. Easton makes multiple arrows that weigh differently (this is just an example, I would check the weights for your self). As Bownut said 340/400 is the spine of arrow, but as the spine changes so does the weight of the arrow. 100 grain tip nock = 9 gr insert = 16 gr 3 blazer vanes= 18 gr With an Easton 400 9.0 Axis total weight: 390 With an Easton 340 9.5 Axis total weight: 404 With Easton 400 10.1 FMJ total weight: 423 With Easton 340 11.3 FMJ total weight: 454 There is a whole debate on Kinetic Energy vs penetration....but IMO I like a heavier arrow (425-450) when hunting elk....I went to Archery Headquarters and shot mutliple arrows and settled on the FMJ, Hard to get a heavy arrow with a short draw like us. The 340 FMJ are 11.1.gpi. FMJ are bad azz arrows, but costly. Redman

    Rage Broadheads

I have not used Rage on an elk so cannot comment how it will do on an elk, but I have used them on smaller game and they did the trick. I had trouble with the blades "deploying" from taking the arrow in and out of my quiver, when your in the heat of the moment, its not good to worry about the blades (I did not have a mechnical quiver). I "wanted" to try them so I did, they fly great (but I have never had a broadhead that didn't), I will not use Ragebroadhead anymore because of the blade issue (unless I get a smoken deal on them, and would not use them on elk). I have killed one elk with Magnus Stingers and two with WacEms all three were complete pass throughs. I would like to try a couple of new broadheads: NAP BloodRunner and the Smoke Broadhead. Redman

    need help with weight.

I would say 340 if your going after elk. Your right in between 340 or 400. I have a 27 inch 73 lbs draw and shoot the 340 (Full Metal Jacket). I switched from the PSE X-Weave 300 (which are much lighter) and my bow had a lot less shock and seemed quieter (but did not scientifically measure it), but it slowed down something like 25 fps. The 340 at your draw including broadhead, flecthings, insert, etc will be around 425 grains. Redman

    draw results

Even though I had called and got the bad results (not drawn)......when I entered my information on the website I had hoped to get a different result. Not!!! Can't complain I had a tag last year. Redman

    They are up!!

I guess I could have been more specific.....the way the results are found out calling by phone.....what a joke, what year is this??? (the draw system/bonus points has it flaws, but there is no perfect system) Redman
  20. Redman

    They are up!!

There is no two ways about it, the Arizona Game and Fish's big game draw system has sucked for many years and this year is just down right pathetic. What a joke. Redman

    Our archery success... (pic heavy)

WOW those are impressive coues deer.....but all with a bow!!!!!!! That is outstanding. Your wife's deer is a freak. Your deer may not top out over a 100, but that thing is perfectly symmetrical I would give my left pinky finger to have put an arrow in it. Thanks for sharing. Redman
  23. How fast is fast enough? PSE released a new bow shooting 366 FPS making it the fastest bow ever (sorry Mathews, your adds will need to change)....this is not a which bow is better topic (I could care less what you shoot)....but 366 FPS? Jumping the string...can that still happen? Redman

    Scumbags

Need to vent!! 2009 started out great, within an hour of sun up, arrows were flying at Javellina (no success). Later in the day, we find a different herd more arrows fly, one piggy down. A friend gets stuck, I try to pull him out, snap a CV drive axle, now we are both stuck. Call his cousin, he comes out (it's 9 pm now) he pops two tires on his way out (hit a rock). Get the spares put on and we both get pulled out, still no big deal, great day. Little problems, but that is hunting. Leave my truck in the hills need to get the CV drive axle. Transfer all my gear into his truck, sleep at this house (take gear inside) morning comes, get the drive axle for $69.00 bucks....great!! Load up his truck, need to get a 35mm socket to get the hub bolt off (it now about 9:30 am). Run into Checkers for 5 minutes. Drive out to the hills, get the axle put on, everything is smooth. Get our cloths changed for an afternoon hunt and then the question gets asked "where's our bow cases"? Some scumbag stole them while we stopped at Checkers. Me being lazy, I did not want to unscrew my quiver to fit it into my bow case, I gave my bow to another friend to take home (he was going to meet us the next day) so my bow was not lost. However, my friend's bow was in his case along with dozen Gold Tip arrows, broadheads, allen wrenches, etc (he got to hunt one day with his new bow). In my case was over a dozen Easton Axis arrows, 2 + packs of WacEm's, extra string, all kinds of misc stuff. Getting stuck, truck breaking down, no big deal those things happen. Getting your stuff jacked really, really chaps my hide. I hate to think what would of happen if we caught the scum bag in the act......we'd probably still be the one suffering and in jail, because our justice system protects criminals. Still after all that, the next day, I have a spare bow get it setup for my friend, go out hunting, arrows fly at piggies......I stalk over a 1000 yds to get within 40 yds of a very nice 4x4 mule deer only to get busted by his only doe (why did I rush the last 20 yds???). If some body tries to sell an AR Velocity (the bow has some unique add ons that were custom) please let me know. Pick a spot, let it go! Redman
