Thanks for the replies, I hated going home on Sunday from 33, drove to Mesa and the weather was ok so I and went out in 37B. Did not have much luck in 37B around Superior. I hope to get out this weekend and it seems like the weather will be great. Good luck! Redman

It is a good idea to review a following. Laser tuning is only one step in the process, some broadheads are more forgiving than others, but Muzzys should fly great. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.p...roadhead+tuning Redman

That is clearly in 3*....I know where exactly but I will not say....

Not sure exactly, but you could go to Archery Headquarters (or another shop) and shoot different arrows through the chrono (I think they will shoot your bow for you) this is what I did and determined my new arrow (which is a Easton FMJ 340 and I have been real happy). Getting about 280 FPS with a 100 grain tip from my X-Force. You may not get more KE put you will definitely have the ability to get penetration (but the whole KE/penetration gets very confusing). Redman Thanks. My friend has a chrono, so I might just put a 125 gr. tip on my current arrow (gold tip xt 5575), and look at the difference. I shot my deer at 73 yards last year, and am still wanting to keep my capability out to that distance. At my speed the arrow is really dropping fast out at that range, so I need to try and figure out how much the down range performance will change. So why is your X-Force shooting at 280 f/s? I thought those shot well into the 3's. I have a 27 inch draw, shooting a 470 grain arrow (total), and have the 7 inch brace height. You should be fine with a 125 head (plus it will be nice not to have to purchase more arrows) check you FOC (I belive gold tip have a FOC calculator). Redman

I'd probally miss. Redman

I read Grong's story. What a great article, I read his post last year, but when I was reading it in Western Hunter...when he missed...twice....I got nervous and excited (and said they would never happen to me.....that buck would be GONE). I was going to search for his post, because I swear his buck was bigger than 100 and change (not that the scored matters that deer is awesome). On a side note, do you enjoy that magizine? I do, but it seems to be add heavy. Redman

salt and feed no more in 2009

Hi Ron, Thanks for the info, however as my statistics teacher taught me, you don't have a thing, without that swing...what he meant by that, is you only presented one set of numbers. Can you please present the number of archery hunters and hunting days during the same period? Was there a shift a hunters from another unit to 22, how many archery tags were sold in those years, how many general harvest tag numbers were there and hunting days? A quick statistical analysis shows there was an upward shift in 2002, but since then, the harvest has been statically insignificant and within two standard deviation. Plus there are so many other variables (no mandatory harvest reporting for rifle hunters, equipment improvements, etc). How can the increase in harvest only be attributed to baiting? What was the data like in previous years? Very few entities would make rash decisions (laws) while presenting such little data (well maybe in the finical world today), you may have the data, but it has not been presented. Imagine if the FDA or another healthcare entity made changes on such a little sample population? We would all be eating tofu for all three meals. The problem is, we have seen this train a coming for a while, it appears this is something that is going to happen no matter what (based on science or a hunch)....if you don't get the answer you wanted the first time, ask the question again in a different way....that seems to be the way. Also add another varible like CWD. Respectfully Redman -
New to website, hunting 33/37B in January with son

Welcome to a great website. I don't really think one week will matter much, I would watch the weather (if you can change your plans when the weather report is issued). Last year, the first week was extremly windy and I think the second was raining.. it seemed to rain a lot last Jan. Oracle is a good spot to be, you can get to multiple places in 33 and 37B with limited driving...but now gas is reasonable....so driving won't cost you an arm and a leg. Redman -
Expandable memory, you can add a micro SD card to the HCX. Basicly load the whole US topo map on it. I had the 520 HCX and it got run over this week . I am going to buy a new one, the best price I found after the cash back is $230 on Ebay. Redman

Is it just me our is anybody else extremly worried about the bailouts that seem to keep happing? With our national debt at $10,024,724,896,912 how are we ever going to get out of this hole (this hole got twice as deep since 2000)? That is over $35,000 for every American...is our economy about to collaspe? Redman

Since I have been visiting this website I have been in awe of the magnificent animals you have been a part of (taken or guided). Amazing, great deer and congratulations. Redman

You know Jamaro, I have my doubts about Obama, and I will wait before judging him.....I supported Bush....but you are absolutely correct, Bush has totally failed the American people, time and time again. I fell like he took my allegiance to the president for granted. I cannot believe our national debt has grown so much under Bush....I am worried about some of the talk about Obama and guns, etc. But the damage that has been done to our country in the past 8 years in incredible....I also know that one man did not do it all, but I would love to turn back the past 8 years and do it over again. Coues Krazy, how can anybody not want to change this path we are on, doubled our national debt in less than 10 years? Who is gonna pay for this? Redman

That is a great looking dear, I am glad it all worked out for you.Deer in the prickly pears, love that. Please tell him congrats!! Redman

I just joined, thankfully they called me, I had been meaning to join, I signed up for five years for $100.00. There are very few organizations that actively campaign for gun owners. I am very glad they do, I would rather pay somebody to fight for our gun rights than rely on gun owners. I liken it to the game and fish meetings, only a handful of sportsmen show up to these very important meetings (yes I am one who is absent) I normally have good intentions of showing up....... Redman

Good to hear, I guess I will pick one up. Thanks Redman

+1!!!! Ya know.... I been thinkin' about this thread a bit, and the Carl painted a picture in that 1st post.... I guess he could have called me by name.... ... but, I am glad he didn't! Here is how I fit: I am 33 yrs old.... almost middle aged and.... Here is one of my tats.... Here is my Nut-Giggler, with custom break..... Difference is that My nut-giggler has helped 6 AZ public land critters hit the dirt in the last 11 months... 5 of which were for kids aged 11-17!!! Not to mention the previous half dozen kills it has.... But, I could easily be the guy you outlined in this post..... Thanks for the gut check, Carl.... I don't want to be exactly like those guys.... Ever!!! We have all seen them.... I think we call them Posers!!! They are the guys that spray the hills with lead when hunting, because hunting and shooting off a bench are two very different things! Hey Coues "N" Sheep While admiring your rifle (your tat is cool, but your rifle is much more impressive) I saw you have a Limbsaver Barrel De-resonator...does that thing work? I know they are not costly, and probably should just buy one...how do you like it? Redman

What kills me is this: Say you do not tag out on the first hunt, and there are leftover tags for a second or third hunt, you still cannot get a left over tag. This year I drew an archery deer tag and did not tag out......I am still watching the leftover rifle tags with envy and would love to pick one up, but cannot since I already obtained a tag through the draw.....one tag is issued per draw.. I have heard a lot of people claim the Game and Fish only cares about money, but they are letting money expire on their shelves. Redman

Yep i'm at that age where I'm gonna be used as pack mule. Getting this deer off the mountain was a combined effort though between my dad, uncle and I. The hardest part was when I wasn't even carrying the deer! It was when I had my huge pack and two rifles to carry down that mountain. At the end of the day I think each of us fell about ten times. Success hardly ever comes easy, sometime carry the deer is easier than all the other crap. Take every day in with you family and live in the now! \ Redman

Sweet! So who carried the deer off the mountain? The reason I ask is that I have been keeping track, my son owes me 2 deer and 1 javillina!! Can't wait for him to get older to be my pack mule. Redman

Great buck your mom took. Looks like you all had fun. Redman

Hey AZOneCam, You have obviously been hunting longer than I have, but I believe most hunters put too much pressure on each other ( I am one of those). It can be a demanding sport and it brings out the hard headedness in all of us. There is so much anticipation leading up to opening day, then when things don't play out as they did in our mind (that magical big buck does not step right out) it can be discouraging...even reading replies to your post, which I think are truly genuine advice, hunters have frowned on other hunters and they way they hunt. Do what makes you happy, don't worry about what others are doing. This weekend I was out with a friend we got on the hill before light and were glassing, not long after the sun came up, the quads began to rolling down the road, two years ago, I would have been pissed and would have wanted to trek further away....but at about that time I glassed two bucks on the hill...... remember what you like about hunting and what you don't like...... Redman

This weekend I saw two small bucks tussling, not a major fight. Should not be long. Redman

Good shooting Garrett. Nice looking deer you got. That is a great accomplishment. Redman
