  1. How fast is fast enough? PSE released a new bow shooting 366 FPS making it the fastest bow ever (sorry Mathews, your adds will need to change)....this is not a which bow is better topic (I could care less what you shoot)....but 366 FPS? Jumping the string...can that still happen? Redman

    ross outdoors

Ross outdoors is a top flight operation and have a huge selection of hunting gear. My only wish is they were closer to my home. They really helped me before my archery bull hunt, similar situation. Redman

    Scumbags

Need to vent!! 2009 started out great, within an hour of sun up, arrows were flying at Javellina (no success). Later in the day, we find a different herd more arrows fly, one piggy down. A friend gets stuck, I try to pull him out, snap a CV drive axle, now we are both stuck. Call his cousin, he comes out (it's 9 pm now) he pops two tires on his way out (hit a rock). Get the spares put on and we both get pulled out, still no big deal, great day. Little problems, but that is hunting. Leave my truck in the hills need to get the CV drive axle. Transfer all my gear into his truck, sleep at this house (take gear inside) morning comes, get the drive axle for $69.00 bucks....great!! Load up his truck, need to get a 35mm socket to get the hub bolt off (it now about 9:30 am). Run into Checkers for 5 minutes. Drive out to the hills, get the axle put on, everything is smooth. Get our cloths changed for an afternoon hunt and then the question gets asked "where's our bow cases"? Some scumbag stole them while we stopped at Checkers. Me being lazy, I did not want to unscrew my quiver to fit it into my bow case, I gave my bow to another friend to take home (he was going to meet us the next day) so my bow was not lost. However, my friend's bow was in his case along with dozen Gold Tip arrows, broadheads, allen wrenches, etc (he got to hunt one day with his new bow). In my case was over a dozen Easton Axis arrows, 2 + packs of WacEm's, extra string, all kinds of misc stuff. Getting stuck, truck breaking down, no big deal those things happen. Getting your stuff jacked really, really chaps my hide. I hate to think what would of happen if we caught the scum bag in the act......we'd probably still be the one suffering and in jail, because our justice system protects criminals. Still after all that, the next day, I have a spare bow get it setup for my friend, go out hunting, arrows fly at piggies......I stalk over a 1000 yds to get within 40 yds of a very nice 4x4 mule deer only to get busted by his only doe (why did I rush the last 20 yds???). If some body tries to sell an AR Velocity (the bow has some unique add ons that were custom) please let me know. Pick a spot, let it go! Redman

    Whats better!

I had used FOBs on my early deer hunt and on my elk hunt (had two in my quiver for some time) and encountered the following, the FOB never created a problem to my shooting/anchor point: 1. Flight of the FOB is great, no matter what broadhead I tried. 2. Make sure your fall away rest gets out of the way. 3. Do not over sand your nock, your nock needs to be sanded, if it is sanded to much, when you draw your bow the nock leaves the arrow (you draw and no arrow comes come back just the nock). 4. They can fall off in the field, not sure how, probably when I encountered brush or something, not good to look down and see one missing. 5. With number 4 being said, and really not achieving consistent measurable results from Blazer vanes, I took them off. Redman

    so mad!!!

Hey Adam, Losing a animal is never good feeling, I have a feeling no matter what you would have posted someone would have said something that would make you feel bad. It sounds like your a dedicated hunter and spot on with your bow. People love to jump in on these open forums and knock you down, for every person who offers good advice like Coues n Sheep, five will bash you. Keep it up, I wish at 21 I had already shot a coues with a bow, there are much worse things a young adult could be doing on his days off. What broadheads are you thinking about going to? Redman

My 2009 Desert Archer Mule Deer

WOW, congratulations....the last 100 yds has beaten me more than I would like....thanks for posting your story...I cannot remember when a bowhunter said "I shouldn't have moved so slow".... its usually "I moved to fast"

    Going to ATA!!!

I would like to see how the new Trophy Ridge Western Hunter sight compares to the Spot Hogg. I have viewed it on their website and it looks awesome. I would like to know how well built it is and how it compares to the Spot Hogg. Redman

    so mad!!!

A couple of questions come to mind, I doubt it was a broadhead failure. What distance did you shoot your pig at (pigs are tough skinned critters and if it works for a pig it should work for a deer)? What is your draw weight and arrow weight (total), at 95 yds, I wonder what the KE you had behind your arrow. I know that particular broadhead takes a little more to open than others. If you going to shoot longer distances, you may want to think about a two blade (Rage or a fixed blade). Wilds animals are tough, I've seen deer take multiple shots with a 30-06....to only get up and run..... Redman

    Son's Deer

My name is Tyler and I’m 12 years old. I was hunting up in Peppersauce for a whitetail during the junior hunt. The first day we saw onlyl does, a big downer. That night the wind was awful, we had to take down the camp and sleep in the truck. The next day my uncle Chris came to hunt. We saw a buck and tried to get closer to the buck but we couldn’t find it. We were going to try to scare it out but then Chris saw it. I took two shots and brought it down. It was my best hunt yet. This is my second deer. I hope to post a picture of a bull elk after my hunt. Little Red.

    Here Piggy Piggy!

Nice pictures, I cannot wait, it seems like everyday I have been out I have seen some pigs, unit 24B, 33, and 37B does not matter! I hope they are still around when my tag comes due (unit 33/37B). Redman
  14. I wish I did, I have never hunted on the San Carlos Reservation (or any other). I have a Javillina tag this January for State land and have thought about getting a Reservation tag, but economics say to hunt on State land. Redman

    I Love ATV's and OHV's

Just stop worrying about everybody else unless there are breaking the law (and you can see them) and hunt and have fun! p.s. be safe Redman
  16. I let a arrow go but just missed over its back. Any legal deer with an antler is fair game for me. Redman

    little muley

Great Job, I would love to wrap my tag around that (another one) deer this weekend!! Redman
  18. After much anticipation, the weather for opening weekend blew! Friday was not bad and Saturday morning was OK, but after that the weather made it almost impossible to hunt with a bow. For fun I would try to hold steady on a target and could not even hold it still. Would have been a great time to find a bedded buck with the wind making all the noise, but I had no luck. Anybody have luck? Redman

    Opening weekend weather blows!!

Thanks for the replies, I hated going home on Sunday from 33, drove to Mesa and the weather was ok so I and went out in 37B. Did not have much luck in 37B around Superior. I hope to get out this weekend and it seems like the weather will be great. Good luck! Redman

    Accuracy with broadheads

It is a good idea to review a following. Laser tuning is only one step in the process, some broadheads are more forgiving than others, but Muzzys should fly great. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.p...roadhead+tuning Redman

    Arrow Speed

Not sure exactly, but you could go to Archery Headquarters (or another shop) and shoot different arrows through the chrono (I think they will shoot your bow for you) this is what I did and determined my new arrow (which is a Easton FMJ 340 and I have been real happy). Getting about 280 FPS with a 100 grain tip from my X-Force. You may not get more KE put you will definitely have the ability to get penetration (but the whole KE/penetration gets very confusing). Redman Thanks. My friend has a chrono, so I might just put a 125 gr. tip on my current arrow (gold tip xt 5575), and look at the difference. I shot my deer at 73 yards last year, and am still wanting to keep my capability out to that distance. At my speed the arrow is really dropping fast out at that range, so I need to try and figure out how much the down range performance will change. So why is your X-Force shooting at 280 f/s? I thought those shot well into the 3's. I have a 27 inch draw, shooting a 470 grain arrow (total), and have the 7 inch brace height. You should be fine with a 125 head (plus it will be nice not to have to purchase more arrows) check you FOC (I belive gold tip have a FOC calculator). Redman

    Western Hunter

I read Grong's story. What a great article, I read his post last year, but when I was reading it in Western Hunter...when he missed...twice....I got nervous and excited (and said they would never happen to me.....that buck would be GONE). I was going to search for his post, because I swear his buck was bigger than 100 and change (not that the scored matters that deer is awesome). On a side note, do you enjoy that magizine? I do, but it seems to be add heavy. Redman
