At least we got the other 1/2 - no real comment other than , what happened to the bull? if trully a really high above the lung shot - he'll be back in action quickly. Can't see a bull that was really wanted, ignored and passed over. oh well - off to my hunt hope everyone got home safely. sure there are a ton of untold tales of woe hope mine is a freezer full and not tag soup.

    What would you do?

""I know if G&F just placed a paper plate at 40 yards and said put 4 out of 5 arrows in it before putting your app. in the box I would get a tag more often! "" we all should know Bryon Ferguson , the famous trick archery shooter - shoots aspirin tossed in air - shoots thru a wedding ring - famous for all types of trick shooting. did you see his most famous moment - missed an elk at 30 yrds didnt even come close - it was televised on a hunt show once - even the greatest archers in the world can miss - hittin plates a 40 yrds dont mean jack in the field lookin at a live animal, doin his thing. sure practice and skill is a good base but it aint real huntin and we all know it -

    Law vs. Ethics

one way to look at it! really rather simple- act like you have your 10 yr old son, brother ,sister, daughter, nephew ,grandson on their first ever hunt. what are you going to teach him about hunting. law and ethics tend to bend and even break in the excitement of the moment! then theres just stupid left to deal with the mess! of course this does not apply to a family of poachers!

    What would you do?

Hunters take bad shots, arrows bounce or glance off limbs, the excitment gives them the shakes- unlimited number of ways/reasons that animals are wounded and not recoverd after being shot. Oh yeah I've heard the ole - i hit 5 or 3 etc. I've been lucky enough to only wound one elk that i could not recover - basically never any blood trail to follow. high shoulder hit- i used wrong pin -or didn't guess the right yardage - one or the other maybe i didnt anchor correctly- It still bugs me after 6 yrs., what happened that day, the one that got away.i spent 3 days lookin. To be honest i never really got a good look at the rack - the bull was covered in mud from wallowin ,shot at last minutes of daylight. first thought at where the arrow hit - too high-dang I did see a bull with a shoulder hit on the 4th day. within a mile of my shot. I tell myself - thats my bull and he survived but no real way to know. I had one more day to hunt but it just didnt feel right. I had my shot ,hit my bull just wasn't meant to be. If ya shoot 2 bulls and are following a blood trail and know ya had a wounded animal that probably would die .You quit tracking, for whatever reason. YOU SHOULD BE DONE!

    Anyone heard from Amanda?

this is the time when most hunters gotta make a big choice - all those 300 class bulls are flashin in your mind and the shoulda thoughts start floodin in. Everyone wants to place their tag on a bull of a lifetime , but when you are down to 2 1/2 days left to hunt, those smaller bulls are gonna be given more than a glance. hope she fills her freezer , reguardless of the size of the bull. Go Amanda !!

    Liquid gold?

I would do nothing to the bedrock where it comes from- just make a dam below it and clear a small area for a pool. other than that leave it alone. I always love seeing that clump grass growin in a stream bed- I had a similar spot on the edge of a canyon - everytime i visited it i'd dig -out- move a few rocks , widen / re-enforce the dam a little - then just left it alone- reminds me i should go check on it. been a couple yrs. - lol

17,600 + hits - and no tellin when/if the rebuttal will be posted. come on guys i don't know if a topic has ever recieved 20,000 but this one looks like a shoe in. and Amanda's still huntin. even though the hunt ends thurday, if it goes till sundown. Nobodys gonna be in a hurry to pack up- drive home - unpack etc and jump on computer to write a detailed account of what they say happened last week. especially ,knowing the "crowd" is waiting for the rebuttal Anybody heard from Amanda about her hunt!(edit) duh check other thread
  14. for your first hunt - you drew a dandy of a tag. good luck - hope it turns out to be everything you've dreamed of. the rut should be kickin in full throttle and the weather is perfect - just have fun!

so how would someone pass off a set of antlers from a dead bull as their own? probably not likely that youd be able to take the "trophy" pic - next to your bull, holding the antlers and your "new" box laid accross in front.

Whats going on in 10 this yr.

gotta go with - guide and client leave tank and immediatly contact g&f see if hunter repeats same story Like stated ,pretty sure it is illegal to build your own tank/ water catchment on state land! now haulin water into an established .dry tank/ catchment is a different story.

^^^^ nosajpo maybe right we haven't really discussed it lately! what happened to this bull ? let the drama cool at tad and get some opinions on this issue . who believes this bull is dead and has been found ? how about a poll of some kind. maybe a different thread even. I for one have no real doubts that this bull has been found dead. a sought after - wounded 400 bull just doesnt disappear.

who'm ever this the hunter is - too bad we can not get this story - good or bad. Maybe if more such first hand reports, by "whom ever" this hunter is, gets told that we as hunters/sportsman&women, will start watchin out for each other. I'm sure the hunters or the guides story would be different but still needs to be told. hook'm up BILL

    does anybody know this person?

I've been hunting most of my life. Like most of us, it’s a family tradition. It’s great to get in the woods and hunting with family and friends. I've basically been DIY or DIBM (do it by myself) type hunts. Never hunted with an outfitter/guide and paid to locate an animal for harvesting/filling my tag. Sure I've been hunting with a group of friends. 9 times out of 10 times, they are hunting with tags to fill also. Lot's of times hunters have friends, who just want to go and help harvest an animal. This is all part of hunting. A group all together - working with the hunter, staying with the hunter is all part of the hunt, most likely family and friends. This is great - the more eyes to look and experience the hunt, and help the hunter locate something to shoot. It’s a little different when hunting turns to I or my client has got to kill the biggest, no matter what. When you “gang-up” and do anything and everything, to accomplish this goal.and cross the line from right to wrong. Doing things you might not normally do. Having friends, buddy’s, even family spread out all over the unit to find and relay information by radio, phone etc., is really pushing the limits to what hunting is suppose to be. when hunters and guides start to forget whats right and resort to ,interferring , intimidations with threats , vandalisum and even violence to others who are legally hunting -It's wrong We all hunt for different reasons. I go have some fun, enjoy our great state and hunting opportunities and tag a big one (hopefully). It’s not any fun when actions of others, sometimes unethical, give hunting a bad wrap, and ruin the experience. My hunt starts on the 26th. At this point it’s a DIBM. You bet it would be nice to have some help, even nicer to be able to afford a guide. Sure, it’d be nice to kill a 400class bull. But just like last yr., if it happens great but my goal/trophy is a freezer full of meat to feed my family. Good luck hunting for all those going and I hope you are able to enjoy the greatest experience of your life!

Finding your bull several days later with the head gone , really shouldn'tsuprise you. most likely a hunter came accross the bull- saw he couldn't harvest the meat and salvaged the antlers. though we all know this is against the law, it doesnt surprise me. As far as your hunt being harassed by a hunter or tree hugger - here you coulda taken time to call g&f-if possible and hopefully they may have been some help. I hope you have at least reported this. take vechile description , if possible , hear him coming , your cover is blown anyway for a while. get out and confront person and at least notify that hisactions are screwing up your hunt - get license plate and description. Lot's of things you could have possibly done. Still sorry these things happen but sometimes you just have to do something.

since we need to pass a few days and keep something goin what is the general take on "posse" / "group" hunting? I'll put it in a primitve form ,and i hope no one takes too much offence It basically reminds me of a wolf pack. Spotters on every hill- using radio's , cell phones to communicate preys location is our modern day version
