    Jay's Mexico Hunt

hello - super nice buck -another Mexico wall hanger! Gary
  2. How many of us read all the magizines and watch the dvd's and tv shows telling us that we need to buy this or that to make our hunting easier or better! There's got to be hunreds of little inventions that flopped big time !Or maybe its a particular item that you thought really was a waste of time and money! One of my earliest was the game tracker string - attachs to broadhead and you just follow the string to find your game - Basically it was more hassle than what it was worth - -the heated scent dripper -the trail timer - clock w/ piece of thread attached across a trail to record time

What type of drop away rest!

hello - i picked up a new drop away rest - or should i say fall away - Shur Drop - $49 fairly easy to set-up no strings/ cords or inertia - simply holds arrow for draw and drops forward in the first few inches of arrow travel - - minor things to get accustomed - you must manally set holder /arrow for draw and let down needs improvement - i just mounted one of the cushion arrow holders in the front - works flawless so far ! - can be seen at -- www.deltaarcherycompany.com Gary

Advice on Unit 23 South Elk

hello - If you are talking about the posted - draw/harvest no.s , put in the G$F regulations about last yrs. elk numbers-- don't believe everyhting you read -- Please ! It's far from accurate! Pick an area that your familiar with - you'll probably have a better time hunting than trying to locate a few elk in an area with limited opurtunities! But hey - this is just my opinion! I wouldn't waste 11 points on an area i know nothing about !! Gary

Did my deer meat go bad?

hello - As long as you removed the hide ASAP- and the meat was cool to the touch- it should be fine - thats not to say that bacteria and "sour " meat didn't occur , it starts and spreads rapidly! The idea of taking care of the meat is by far one of the top 2 details often neglected by hunters! They will spend hrs . detailing areas to hunt, guns, ammo, items for survival etc. for a hunting trip! "Some" just don't prepare for proper meat care in the field - they forget the little things- but never the camera ! It's like they are prepared for everything possible except taking care of a downed animal ! I never leave camp without these 3 items - Sharp knives, game bags, gps. I always take several ice chests along-full of extra ice on every hunting trip - especially the one dayers not far from home ! Gary

    NEW RULE FOR SHEDS?

hello - I believe this is to help the officer when confronted by unique situations - I was told -several different things before- i found a skull and it still contained some dryed skin- one person said it was illegal because it wasn't completly bare boned - another no biggy it's old skull etc. So this will help clarify it in writting !! CAlico buck mistakin id

did some more research--- email rumors abound--sorry heres the real story The deer was actually killed November 2, 2008, on a privately owned ranch outside of Palestine, Texas. The piebald deer scored 138 5/8 gross with a total body weight of 195 pounds. My husband is getting the deer full body mounted. Anyways, I just wanted to give you this information since there are lots of emails going around saying the deer was harvested in Michigan, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Georgia just to name a few. One email even says that the deer was sold to Cabelas for $13,000! It is crazy.” Trophy Watch™ -- Texas as of 11/04/2008 UPDATE 11/18/08: Bellville resident James Curtis took this unique piebald whitetail in Palestine opening weekend of deer season. The TBGA official green score was 138 5/8 B&C gross with a net score of 136. The deer's body weight was 195 pounds! Congrats to James for such a unique trophy! my mistake - I'll be edditing any future emails from this "friend " - sorry Gary

    Lion Sign

hello - - 20 yrds from the campers - shoulda been you first sign! no lion tracks your 2nd sign! From the pic's a little to much scratching - Normal lion kills are rarely covered that much or that neat, and rarley right out in the open ! Just my opinion but hey with all that fresh dirt piled on top, don't you think the lion would have had to leave at least one paw print! Gary

    so mad!!!

hello - - One thing to keep in mind is the animal - these are awesume creatures= from a spike to a monster toad - How one decides to Hunt or Kill has been a question, as we've noticed during this post- Everyone should agree on at least one point -- Making a good shot!! Resulting in a quick end! Anything less is unacceptable, these animals we hunt do not deserve to suffer! We all need to decide if we want to be Hunters or Killers ! I'm not trying to insult or belittle anyone here! ADAM, I'm glad you have your buck! my last .02 on this post Gary

    so mad!!!

hello -- Ok Adam great job - or should I say finishing the job!- Now the question on everyone's mind !-- Why did'nt we see any pictures of the placement of the first arrow?? I for one was hoping for some kind of follow up on that first shot !! Might help to explain what you thought was a good hit ---Gary

    so mad!!!

hello - guess it's time to make a decision - do you go out this weekend and look for the buck or do you shoot the next one you like ! Not an easy decision but I doubt you'll find the first buck - I say hunt the same area if you haven't already pushed everything out from trying to find the first buck - Good luck on your hunt and I hope you learned a little from all this ! Good luck - gary

  25. hello -- - I thought it was quite interesting. - I know of no study done on the evaluatin of broadhead penatration while compared to distance of the target - energy / mass/ velocity and all that tech stuff but I did discover this test and found these results , that the tip of the broadhead can make all the difference ! It was to long and detailed to list the whole process , so here's the webpage --hope it works http://wibowhunters.proboards54.com/index....&thread=588
