I would be curious to see how much land they control that is public and how much is state? Many don't seem to get it that state land is not public land. It has been leased and money paid for the right to use it. You can't see this well but the whole side of this stock tank is littered in busted bottles and trash from shooters. Hunters get the rap for this kind of stuff. If I were a rancher and could shut it down to the public I would too. It only takes one idiot to cause problems for everyone.

Doubt they would go with rifle but maybe muzzleloader. I am all for the draw on at least the desert units. With the closure of other units the ones left open should be a real sh!t show this year

Wonder how this would go over with outfitters/guides that book months in advance? I am in favor of a draw but would be curious how an OTC in the early hunt and a draw in the later desert hunts would work. It would take some of the pressure off of the desert deer herds but still give OTC opportunity to hunters. It would maybe minimize the $$$ hit the department would take.

Go to a draw.

Go to the dashboard where it shows your license, bonus points, etc.

I talked to them about this and was told if the system accepted your application you were good. I used my customer ID

Looks like rain may be coming next week according to the NWS. Just in time to screw up the guys that plan on sitting water. Temperatures are supposed to drop too. Maybe help the rut get going? I know it's a bit early but I can hope! Let it rain! We need it.

Probably. In the areas I hunt a quarter of an inch can shut down a drinker. Lots of potholes. And with more dew it sometimes stretches out the frequency of watering.

Nash has one at their Phoenix location for under $19,000. I would not hesitate to buy the Honda. I have a friend that said he made a living working on Polaris. He said about the only thing Hondas came in for was service. I owned a 700 pioneer and made the mistake of getting rid of it and buying a Yamaha Viking.

I saw the other day Nash Powersports had Honda 1000's for under $25K.

Just a thought but they are kicking around proposals on the OTC deer tags. Option 2 I think,?? which is an archery draw is projected to lose about a million dollars should it be implemented. Wonder if this is to offset some revenue loss when they go to a draw. With the drought, human encroachment and predation I don't see how they can avoid a draw in the near future.

There are a ton of pigs in pockets in unit 41. I am a bit surprised they opened the entire unit to a general OTC tag. Season Dates Notes Open Areas Legal Wildlife Jul 1 - Dec 31, 2021 (16,17,18,19,20) 39 South (see note 17), 40B (excluding Pima County), 41, 43A, and 43B (excluding National Wildlife Refuges) Any javelina

Thanks. I missed that. But still only one application?

"Applicants can select up to six limited-entry permit-tag hunts on one application. Multiple applications will not be accepted. " Since there are 6 hunts I read this to mean all hunts regardless of specie are to be on one application? I would think that each species hunt would be separate. They could generate a lot more revenue. I have to be reading this wrong.

I don't have a problem with it. And I will apply.

I didn't have a tag but had several family members I helped that did. They all had opportunity but only took one 4x4. Overall it was as tough a desert hunt as I have seen in several years. Going out with a youth hunter tomorrow.

Honestly, they are both beautiful animals!

How many of you whitetail slayers have taken a 180+ burro buck in greasewood/mesquite flats with a bow or any weapon for that matter? And no, I haven't killed a 100" coues but have zero desire to waste my time doing it.

otc changes--> increase in trophy quality?
creed replied to MrBojangles's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I have seen way to many 180 bucks turn 160 when they hit the ground. 25 years ago I expected to see a 200" buck during the otc hunts. Then it became 180. Now a 160 buck is a really good buck. I think that drought and predators are the biggest reason why. On one ranch I hunt the old rancher was a cat killing fanatic. Deer herds were good. He sold and the next guy had the attitude that cats were part of the environment and he wouldn't hunt them. Deer population and quality took a big hit. Throw in habitat loss, people everywhere during the winter months and no help from G&F and the deer herds are in the shape they are in now. I have been helping family with their rifle hunts and noticed fawn survival is horrible. Doesn't say much for what the future holds. -
My favorite unit

We had a guy pull a manlift out to the farm and was glassing the flats surrounding the fields. Game warden said it was perfectly legal since there were no weapons involved and he was just glassing. The trespassing was not legal.

Wish I had a tag

So I sent my wife's son into a spot where they kicked up 5 bucks, one of them a good one. He couldn't get off a shot. They went back into the same place this morning. He missed 3 times. Going out in the morning to see if I can't give him some support. He needs it.
