Vicksburg aquifer and the Saudi alfalfa farms

There's not alot of info out there. I have friends that live and work in that area. The water table is dropping to where in some spots it is becoming a financial burden to pump residential water. There was talk some time back of pumping CAP water into the aquifers. I have no idea what became of that. Hyder is another area that is going to go dry. Both Hyder and the Bouse areas were nearly pumped dry years ago. It's going to happen again. Our state government could do a better job of regulating water use. In the AMA's it is restricted but in much of the state it is not.

I disagree. The explosive growth and drought have pulled the water tables down to the point that many natural waters are dried up or seasonal at the best. Some areas certainly would maintain natural water sources but many desert waters are dry. Coop agreements between sportsmen's groups and ranchers are becoming more common to the benefit of not only cattle but all wildlife.

Ever regret passing on a shot?

Looking back on nearly every archery deer season I regret not taking shots on at least one deer. The issue I have is if I kill one then I am done hunting for the year. I know, dumb reason for passing on a decent buck. The exception is a late December buck but even then I pass on most bucks. I don't have the desire to kill a deer just to kill one. I have passed on some small bulls in hopes of finding a bigger bull. I usually eat tag soup and always have regrets. Elk tags don't come along that often.

    ATTENTION UNIT 23 LOVERS!

I have been involved with agriculture my entire life. I made my living farming. I grew up on a farm with cattle and have known many ranchers. My experience with them is that they are stewards of the land and do much more good for the environment than harm. The cooperation between the the AMDO and the Bar X is an example of what can be done when organizations and ranchers work together. And we as hunters benefit. Thank you!

    ATTENTION UNIT 23 LOVERS!

I have heard the cattle are destroying the planet pitch for years. All I have to say is how many of you elk hunters sit waterholes put in by cattlemen? Or how many water sources in the desert units are kept and maintained by cattlemen? I hunt many areas where the only water sources are from cattlemen. I agree that there can be an over grazing problem in places but give me a break. If not for cattle there would be much less game in many areas.

    Sheep tag in the family

His wife is blessed when it comes to big game applications. First time she applied for elk she drew a unit 9 early archery bull. I am going to drive to Sierra Vista next elk draw just so she can touch my envelope.
  12. Selling a couple of things I don't need......champion 4500/3650 generator. It has less than 54 hours on it. Asking $300. Also selling a utv cargo rack. Measurements 5 1/2 tall x 20" deep x 48 wide. Asking $40. Located in far west valley.
  13. My wife has a hang up with recoil and noise. I have tried numerous things with her centerfire but haven't had much luck getting by the severe flinching and jerking the trigger in anticipation of the shot. She has drawn an elk muzzy tag and now I need to start her on a muzzleloader. I was thinking of starting her on the lowest safe load of Pyrodex and working up to a heavier load over the next few months but haven't found much on the www about minimum safe load. Anyone have any suggestions? If I can't move her past this I think I need to talk to her about turning in the tag.

    recoil fear

If we are talking hemp I would want the good stuff left in it. Some good suggestions. I’ll try some of them. Maybe I can get her to where she can at least pull the trigger without having some kind of seizure Rancilio thanks for the offer but I am a couple hundred miles from Tucson. I do have a trip to Sierra Vista planned this summer. Maybe then?

    recoil fear

I may have an old manual laying around I can look it up. If not I’ll get one. She has target panic with the bow too. They’re both about the same. She hasn’t always been like this either. if I can’t get her past this I’m going to turn the tag in. The thing is she enjoys the outdoors so much I hate to see her quit hunting.

No tags in the mail. The 2 hunts she applied for were muzzle loader. Hoping for the early hunt.

CC Hit (First Elk Hunt) GEAR TIPS

Boots! And like others have said, Camo is not needed on a rifle hunt. Also a good tent and comfortable sleeping gear. That is if you plan on going without a camper. A kodiak canvas tent is money well spent. I spent 2 weeks in mine on an elk hunt. Just happened to turn out my honeymoon was the same elk hunt.

    Border Mules

I don't but the last evening of the archery deer season I was on a bunch of deer that suddenly spooked. I knew it wasn't me and wondered what happened. I went back to my utv and headed down a nearby two track. I topped a hill and there were two guys with rifles and packs that had crossed right where those deer were. This was in the middle of nowhere on the south end of the Vultures near an area we did a big cleanup about 10 years ago, much of it illegal drop off garbage. Lots of illegal activity in an area that most don't even think about
